Another enjoyable walk with a trip down memory lane - the Bull Inn where I spent many a Friday evening with friends in the late 70s/early 80s. Thanks!

    Brilliant video as always.
I lived on Daniels Lane till I was 7! We called the sewage works the pumping station. Sadly a patient from WPH met their end there, possibly more than one :(
There were pipes leading from Pinnel House down to it and we'd walk on the pipes. You can still see the where the pipe was from the ariel maps. It was in the woods (so I think your found it) and certainly there till the later 80s. Assume it was knocked down when the hospital closed.
The WPH video is fantastic. Sadly doesn't show the Farm House where we moved to after Daniels Lane. And even sadder, they knocked the farm house down :(
Rumours of houses being built on Kennel Farm field (I believe its 88 acres, so a big old field).

Cheers mate, I will see what I can find at Bethlem Museum where all the WPH archives are, it’s not far from me. The weather behaved for that walk!

Thanks for another interesting walk Phil. I was interested in the old photo of the Bull Inn as my Great Grandfather was a Drayman for Nalder & Collyer brewery, which I believe was in Edridge Road, Croydon. The Harrow was also a Nalder & Collyer pub. I often wondered if he delivered to the area. I also came across that tunnel not long ago, I think it went under a now defunct access road for the hospital.

Great to hear of a family history connection, they were a big brewers in the area back in the day. I plan to visit Bethlem Hospital soon to look at some of the records they have for WPH - may do a follow-up in the future.

Just watched the film about WPH, interesting to see. As kids we were always quite scared of it, the unknown I suppose. I do remember going to a film night there once too with friends from school. Enjoyed the video of your walk too, thank you.

Thanks Jenni and I know what you mean, it was a sprawling setup there. I’ve actually just stopped at Bethlem Hospital where they hold the archives & will make an appointment to see some documents soon - there may be a follow-up!

Evening Phil, what a nice walk in perfect weather, also embarassed to say I've never walked it, but Harrow Rd / Chelsham Rd's my route to Sainsbury's avoiding the speed humps past the Harrow 🤣As for Kennel Farm field, it's one of Green Dragons Airsports sites, listed as Green Dragons Airsports Winching site. Open 7 days a week, suitable for Paragliding and Hangliding, winching in any direction. You missed it, by the gate / bus stop on Harrow Road there's a banner advertising GDA. Now, I am sure I've seen hot air ballons rise in the distance above Selsdon Wood before, but I'm not sure where from.

We do the same if travelling that way, well, we often say can we put up with the speed bumps or shall we go the extra distance for a smoother ride! Ah ok. So I assume the strips are mown but there isn’t a permanent presence there (as there is at Warren Barn Farm) and they bring up winches etc as & when they use the field?

@@philswallow That back route's ok until it floods, go that way to the Dene and the M25. Also it avoids playing chicken along Sunny Bank! Yes, it looks like they take what they need at the time, I guess a winch would get nicked! I have seen them in the field a few years ago, and paragliders most summers. Had an interesting read through the old 2016 Tandridge planning report of the sites they considered developing in Warlingham, one on Kennel Farm field, corner of Harrow Rd (WAR 018). The house opposite is now up for sale...convenient for the Bull. On another note, back to Buckinghams in Selsdon Parade, the subsequent owners now live on the development where the hospital once was...

Hi Phil just watched your video. Brilliant once again. Yes, I worked at war Park Hospital. Back in the day. pill house. Was for the alcoholics that was sent by clinics. And when I was there. Jimmy Greaves was in there a runner-up for this world and a colonel from the British Army I remember going through the front door on the right hand side Was a door that went down some steps and there was a tunnel all I’ve remember it went for miles don’t know what for. Once again, very interesting video. Keep it up. Jeff.

Nice video Phil. That field hasn’t been used for paragliding for years! I used to take the kids there to fly our sports kites!!
However a couple years ago all the public ‘entrances’ were sealed off and the land had been earmarked for development.
I expect to hear that developers have bought it soon as all parties have pledged to increase house building and this is prime land just outside London!

@ramzimusallam5143 thanks mate, tough times for trying to protect the Greenbelt. I thought the priority was brown field sites but 🤷‍♂️
