SPOILER ALERT! If you don't wanna know the secret, stop reading.
    They didn't fool me 😎 :
2:40 He makes Harvey verify that all cards are different, but then,
2:50 he uses slight of hand to swap in a new deck (out of the frame, infortunately we can't slow-mo verify, but bare with me).
3:00 Penn gives him only a part of the deck and lets him shuffle. In his own part of the deck, he has the same cards, arranged in a certain sequence that teller knows by heart.
3:30 He fakes a shuffle, but actually, he just put the sequenced part on top of the deck.
3:58 Harvey names the card, and now the magicians just have to count out the number of cards to waste before that cards come in.
It had to be that. Otherwise, ace of hearts could have been the 52nd card to come out when teller throwing them out. Talk about a long and boring TV moment.
But NOW, HERE IS THE BEST PART:
You know how, in Fool Us, Penn always gives subtle hints in his speech to the contenders so that they understand he wasn't fooled. Well, he does that all throughout his talking while he does the trick to Harvey.
at 2:50, notice that he says "sleight of hand" twice: a cheeky manner to hint at what he was doing right at that moment. He does that hinting several times.
3:33 "not remember the sequence (...) remember the sequence, now REMEMBER"
3:48 "the order will not change"
All these sentences seemed a little out of place and random, until I understood they were hints. Even his whole story about being refused at the Magic Circle, which seems to have nothing to do with the trick, is actually there to HINT the fact that he's gonna Hint the secret.
1:17 "We took it as a challenge: can we do a trick that could fool everyone (...) and still give away all the stuff"
That trick was nice on so many levels! Even discovering the secret made it interesting at a different level. Slow clap.

Penn and Teller have proved time and time again that knowing how a trick is preformed dosen't take anything away from the entertainment. Perfected skill looks like magic even when you know how it's being done.
They have lots of tricks where they just show you how it's done and yet people still love the tricks

Watch Penn’s false shuffle when he gets the cards back at 3:30. The full deck is actually half of a deck which is duplicated. Steve had the same set of cards that Penn had. Penn never shuffles his cards (false shuffle), keeping his set always in the same order. When Pen takes the cards back from Steve, he places Steve’s set on top, but then immediately cuts Steve’s set to the bottom and keeps them that way. Teller has memorized the half deck order (only 26 cards). When Steve tells everyone which card he picked, Teller simply counts to that card using Penn’s set, which is on top, & it will never be more than 26 down from the top. Easy Peazy.

squirrellyme yeah, he’s being a hypocrite no matter which way you slice it. He said he doesn’t trust atheists because they have no moral barometer and when people tell him they’re atheists he just walks away. Here he is with two of the biggest, most popular atheists in America, promoting their show, which often contains or is about atheism. You can spin it to say he’s a good Christian, but he’s disrespectful toward a large community unless it’s in his interest to bring them on his show. It is probably much more fair to say “Steve Harvey doesn’t pick his sponsors, features and tie-ins, the producers and marketers do. And much of the time, the producers have final say.” But that’s all moot anyway because Steve Harvey is a horrible sexist.

    1. There is only 26 different cards within the decks
    2. Penn splits the deck half
    3. He gave the top half to Steve
    4. He made Steve to think 1 card from the Top Deck, and make him shuffle the deck
    5. Penn also shuffle the deck according to the sequence he wants OR he never shuffled the deck, and only make us to think he shuffled the deck
    6. He put the Top Half deck from Steve and return to step no 5 but this this time, Penn makes the bottom half to get into the Top deck
    7. He put the deck back into Steve's hand
    8. Teller only need to act as if he feels the card, but in his memory he already memorized the sequence of the bottom half

Penn's packet is in a memorized order, top to bottom. Teller knows the order. Steve can think of any card in his packet, no force. When he reveals it, teller knows what position in penn's packet it is. So when Penn takes back the shuffled cards from steve, he loads his stacked packet on top of the deck while doing some false cuts. Then teller simply knows when they're at the chosen card.

there are a lot of these type of tricks, the most popular one you give the bottom half to the viewer, picks a card. Then you put the selected card on the 6th spot whatever it is. In your other half you have all the 5s and 6s stacked on top. You tell the viewer to stop whenever they like, if they pass the 5s and 6s you say lets do it again. If the viewer picks a 6 you reveal the 6th card from their pile. If the viewer picks a 5 you count 5 and then the next one is their card.

This makes Penn and Teller the perfect combination of Magic and entertainment for me. One set is what Harvey sees, which is exactly the same as what Penn is hiding somewhere else.. this set has the same sequence exactly to what Teller remembers before the show. Harvey hands back the set after his shuffled, and at 3:33 Penn places that hidden unshuffled set back over the top.

Here’s what I’ve decided for how Teller knows where the card is:
At 3:36 when Penn “shuffles” he’s actually just swapping the bottom half of the deck with the top half, and that the half that Steve has is a random order of the exact same cards as what Penn has, which are in a specific sequence. Steve picks a card that’s in the 26 that he’s holding, and teller just has to go through half the deck until he gets to the right card.

Had to watch it a few times to realize what took place. When Pen is shuffling the deck, he is actually replacing Steve's half deck with his own half-deck that's been ordered. Teller knows the number of the card. It's only 26 to choose from. As long as the new deck is not accidentally put out of order by Steve when handing cards over to Teller, it's guaranteed to work. The question to ask would be: "Why would Penn shuffle the cards by cutting them so specifically, when the half-decks had already been shuffled individually? An unsolicited move reveals the nature of this illusion.

  • @shadyblue1000
    @shadyblue1000 Před 5 lety +3

So, the cards are in a particular order, half of the deck is the same as the other half. So when Steve shuffled his and gave it to Penn, Penn took his own hand and did a fake shuffle... putting his half on top. The rest was just Teller having memorized the order... and knowing when to stop.
Either that or they really are all different and Penn was able to see and grab the card very quickly and “shuffle” it too the top

This is a 2 part trick. Penn uses sleight of hand to keep his pre-arranged portion of the deck on top (which are the same cards that Steve has to choose from.) After Steve chooses, it doesn't matter how much he mixes them up because Penn will keep his top half in a certain order by doing a magician's shuffle. He places Steve's portion on top of his own, but then proceeds to do a magician's 3 part split to move his section back to the top. When he hands the deck over to Steve, and after Steve announces the card, Teller has the order of Penn's partial deck memorized to know when to pull the correct card. Very clever. I give the kudos to Teller for the memory task. No, I'm not a magician - just observant.
