Comment below your favorite quick and easy mods that youâve done on your car!
Timing belt and water pump replacement, SO quick and easy. In fact, it is so easy, I have had it half way disassembled for 6 months... uhg! LOL
@@one234569and10 đ Bahaha itâs not that bad of a job! If youâre like me, you do a lot of âwhile youâre in thereâ replacements / upgrades which always end up snowballing until one day your engine is completely out and apart. Guilty đđŒââïž
If you are stuck though, Iâd be happy to help point you in the right direction!
How many miles on the car and does it have an tranny problems? (Manual only) Ive been reading on the mazda forums and alot of people with the 2016 and some '17s are having their trannies break in less then 10k miles.. its usually th4 club version with the lsd but hows urs doing? Im looking to buy an mx5 nd and noticed all the '16s are all used and cheap. There are many people who have '16s and their trannies have all failed or broke.. (not shifting, gears ripping apart and this is all under normal driving conditions.) Please let me know if ur tranny has probleme... and if so what specifically. Thanks in advance!
@@sKeM2k9 my car is a 95 so I havenât had any transmission issues, but you are correct about the early NDâs having transmission issues. They have fixed it with the ND2 though and raised the redline!
Buy a level 3 Thornton chip! Bob. I have an 2006 Automatic. chip cost $85. Just plug it in. WOW!!!
Little mods are the best honestly.
Also, K Swap the world.
The Honda shift knob is in, so at least the hard part of the K-swap is done đ€Ł
Little mods really are the best, especially for us instant gratification seeking millennials đ
I can add a set nice leather seatbelt cushion with fancy stitching and license plate LEDs. Easy and worth every penny if you ask me
@@Kyouske_42 both of those could be on this list for sure đ
I personally would have added the exhaust whistle to this list. Great budget mod, +10hp, rich full sound, and swaggalicious looks
Iâm saving that mod for the next GENNAY install vid
what one would you recommend?
bs exhust super turbo is worth at least 50hp. i recommend 2 or more for track use only.
racing stickers also adds hp
go nuts on the stickers. it adds cool factor. even if you dont have the parts installed. the car will perform better. trust me
â@@rocketsmall4547
Oh definitely. Yellow or red vinyls add the most whp/ wtq. Usually 10whp for a yellow 'Type R' sticker. I put that one and a GT-R badge and gained all kinds of power and street cred dude. Shits SSSIIIIIIICCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK
đđ
@@pdee886fr bro, o Reillyâs exhaust tips be adding like 200 hp ez
I did the FM door bushings, and have replaced my shifter know with one from FM so far, got my car about 3 weeks ago. Been replacing fluids and did the splash guard, love all the little mods to make the car your own. Still deciding on turbo or engine swap but that's down the road, anyway, enjoying your videos, keep up the great work!
Thanks dude! It looks like you are off to a good start. The little mods are always fun. As for turbo vs engine swap, Iâm sure you know the pros and cons of both. Iâm heavily leaning towards a J32 swap this winter. What swap are you thinking about?
Scrap both. Supercharger !
@@u-an6821 a rotrex kit was my original plan when I first bought a Miata. Itâs still not completely off the table. We will see!
@@DriveItRyan I've got a roots style blower on mine. So much fun. But I suppose forced induction is all the same really no matter how it's produced. For some reason miatas are 10 x more fun with it haha
well, have you done either yet?
I did: door bushings, illuminated shift knob, short shifter, LEDs all round on parking, blinkers, brake lights, fog & reverse, trunk light, interior dome light, stubby antenna, LED fog & DRLs, K&N air filter, Panasonic 2-DIN Naviceiver... I love the NC it's a baby Gran Turismo. Travelled to Germany, France and Italy with her... All the best, Rob in Switzerland
amazing. where did you sleep, though> I was hoping to travel around the uk but i'd like to be able to sleep in my car. i was thinking of a rooftop tent but i'd need a hardtop for that or just a bigger car(and take the back seats out).
I really enjoyed this video and loved the fact that you timed yourself and that there was no bs. Deffo going to sub as Iâm about to get a miata or mx5 as they are known here across the pond soon đ
2:49 The *_average_* 1/4 wave length for the FM broadcast band is 31" so if you have a 31" antenna you will get the best distant station reception, otherwise go shorty if you're always in-town or if you mostly listen to Source inputs.
Good to know! Yeah itâs source inputs or engine noise for me đ
Yep, but shorty answered the call to a broken antenna & car cover using a tennis ball with hole using a phillips screw driver to protect antenna & car cover while in use, & the bright yellow/green tennis ball screams "remove me" before driving off.
@@MYGODis4me My tennis ball is looking a bit gray đ
I got the same door bushings, made squeaking, rubbing sound until I dabbed a little grease on them. Nice little vid đ
Thanks Dave! I havenât noticed any new noises yet. So far so good đ
I keep my stock ten foot tall powered whip antenna. It works as it should and makes the car look like a life sized R/C car going down the road. lol
The stubby looks pretty average sized tbh and I bet it's got a great personality
Best mods - a memory foam seat cushion and don't put to high of a PSI in your low pro tires, or use high profile tires. The whole cup holder situation, well I am still trying to invent something for that! LOL
I have no problem with reception on my Pioneer naviceiver with my shorty antenna - I listen to DAB+ (Digital Aufio Broadcast Plus) here in Switzerland - around 200 MHz packet-based CD quality radio. All the best, Rob
Hey Ryan, loved this video! Where did you get that cubby that goes under the radio? I have the EXACT radio and I cant for the life of me find a cubby that fits under there. Any links? Thanks.
I already had the stubby, door bushings and shift knob. Clutch override doesn't apply to me and gopro stuff doesn't bother me (NC2, stock clutch) in any way.
I have to say that the shifter is definitely a way to customize your interieur and the feeling while driving.
Door bushings were a no brainer after front and rear strut bar, rounds off the package.
Definitely! And I love a good NC2 đ€
Just picked up a new 2021 RF and was thinking about the stubby. Nice to see someone recommend it. Any reception issues? Looking forward to seeing more mod options in the future!
To be perfectly honest, I did this mod purely for looks because I rarely use the radio. The reception seems to be okay so far though!
I had a stubby aerial on my NC when I bought it and the reception was rubbish. I took the short aerial off my Mazda 3 and the reception was perfect. So I replaced the stubby with a short Mazda aerial. So much better.
First off I have a power antenna and I mostly just use other forms of media like a blutooth receiver and Apple Music. If I want to use the radio I flick a switch that I wired to the glove compartment so that I can manually control the antenna to go up or down when I want. I feel itâs sort of the best of both worlds. Reception when you want it and when you donât the antenna is down. Vs always having the antenna go up when the car would be started. Nice video đ€đ€
I also have the eight foot factory extendo antenna on my â99 NB. It doesnât power up just starting the car however, only when the radio is turned on. Then powers down when turned off.
That's a great idea, having the separate control for the annt.
7:27 Figuring out that's the best posture to tackle any work down there takes 5 min in itself LOL but when you know, you know :D
the original Antenna is designed to clean your miata holes near the roof, too.
Do you know if anyone makes clear front reflectors for the 2010 Miata?
I did a 3 foot PVC pipe extra long throw shifter that clears the rear view mirrow by about half an inch
Does it double as a potato launcher? I have to see this!
I was confused about what the clutch interlock is. I think they only exist in the USA. Certainly my NB in Japan does not have it.
Installed three of the five mods on my ND,
Door bushings actually made a pretty nice difference in my car. Good bang for your buck!
Easily! I love these little mods. Iâm not looking forward to the frame rail install. Those have just been staring at me in the living room for a couple months now đ
A good bang Matt ...:) you starting to think like me...:)
What does it do?
@@neilobusk just saw this one đ€Ł
@@easyswift7030 increases torsional rigidity, stiffens the chassis, and helps eliminate annoying squeaks / rattles
I have a screwdiriver in every room...at home... just in case...
and in both cars
and on my belt..
I have a wooden knob.....its an age thing.... not in my maz 3 though.. it actually has replacement german one... lights up in the dark.....
when the shaft is longer than you thought... she said... i dont remember..
More vids please ryan...

Hi to Ali
N x
See you get it Neil! You just never know when you might need a screwdriver đȘ
I put Miss Ali on camera yesterday, so she should be back on the tube soon đ
Clutch override switch mod is kinda odd, but the rest are cool! The stubby makes it more modern looking thats for sure
It looks way better than that telephone pole that was on there đ
@@DriveItRyan haha yeah
working on the car. it helps by not having to get in car
Itâll be close. You only six seconds left to do the second door bushing. đ€
"shift knob... no tools... 5-10 seconds"
My shift knob that spins infinitely in place:
"lol"
AS an owner of a 97 M-edition Miata I like to watch any mod videos that are made. I liked the GoPro visor mount until I saw the price, $44.99, what the heck are they smoking?
Goodness! They were $38.99 when I bought them. Still expensive, but a little more reasonable. They are really well made though.
Is that knob metal? That could be deadly in Houston, Texas!!!
Why does your Miata interior look so good.
Haha itâs pretty much all stock but the previous owner kept it in pretty good shape. Iâm going to replace anything thatâs warn out or sun faded. Thatâll be in a video soon!
I hope your hand doesn't get 3rd degree burns on the shifter knob . The wooden one is far cooler when the car is left in the Australian sun but then the black car is a great heat soak .
I have a very similar shift knob (Moddiction Anvil 2). It does get extremely hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter (Iâm in Northeast USA). I have a knit knob cover that keeps it cool during the hot season. Doesnât quite keep it warm during the winter, but while the cover is on (it doesnât impede shifting), you canât tell that the shifter knob is cold. The weight (a little over 450g) and countersunk nature of the knob make it well worth it for smooth shifts!
That's what ya stubby coolers for.
to me, the clutch override switch is kinda weird, my german nbfl starts without clutch, anyways, maybe one of the previous owners installed on, but i doubt that xd
I believe it was only the NA that had it
Haha yes! Fyeahspec indeed.
Hahaa Iâm glad someone got the reference! đ€Ł
Do a 5 top expensive changes! Lol
If you sponsor it! đ
Philips head or JIS head screwdriver?
Just a Philips head for the go pro mounts. For the door bushings, I would use a hex socket.
That shiftknob will be pretty warm if you leave the car in the sun for a bit đ
Haha probably. Itâs alright. My keyboard hands could use a little a toughening up đ
Couldn't I put a toggle switch in line on the wire that goes to the clutch switch so then that way I would have the choice of turning it off or on I'm going to try it
Seems like more work for the same result đ€·đŒââïž but go for it!
@@DriveItRyan đ
@@DriveItRyan I had an old 4runner that came stock with a button you could hit to skip pressing the clutch. Very handy
@@scole558 that is handy! Toyota knows whatâs good, or at least, they used to đ€Ș
The car will be much faster now!đ
âDamn this shaft is longer than I thoughtâ Thats what she said!! đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Bahahaha đđ€Łđ
@@DriveItRyan I just binged all the Mx5 videos on youtube whilst waiting to go and pick mine up, thanks for keeping me occupied manđ
2:06 that's what she said

Another solution to the clutch position switch, that works even if your switch is not working right (like mine was) is to make a little wire jumper with a short piece of wire and two male quick disconnect wire connectors. You just unplug the clip for the switch, and use your wire to connect the two wires in the ECU-side clip. It will make the car think the switch is always depressed.
Awesome! Iâm one of those guys that stays away from wiring if at all possible lol but thatâs a great option!
zip tie
3-4 inches sounds like average. Right?
What are the wheels?
they look stock lol
I could not change the door bushings. I stripped the screws
Try a 10mm socket.

Donât forget that racing stripes are worth at least a whole horsepower
Yer WRONG Killian - much more than that fo' sure. Mind it does depend a lot on the age of the group of lads shouting 'nice car mister'
Best mods is save lots of money, buy and drive a new Mx5 and experience Mazda engineering and performance. Mod yourself.
Modding yourself is always the best thing to do. I do like the new Ndâs and you canât argue with Mazda engineering. I just enjoy working on this NA.
the opening reminded me of the original kamen rider for some reason
Lol I tried looking for it. Send a link if you can find it!
@@DriveItRyan czcams.com/video/GdE8QpdWX5Y/video.html
Black interior, and a metal shifter - you must not live anywhere there is a lot of sun, and heat... I would hate to put my hand on that kno...ok that just sounds wrong.
That knob is probably pretty hot after leaving it in the sun for a few hours.
whats the wooden knob
Good question lol it came with the car. Itâs really nice but wood isnât really my cup of tea. If you want it, let me know!
@@DriveItRyan How much do you want for the wooden shift knob, if you still have it? What is the purpose of the new door bushings? Thanks
@@ld3928 I still have it! Idk Iâd take $65 for it. Message me on Instagram or Facebook @driveitryan.
The door bushings increase torsional rigidity, stiffen the chassis, and reduce unwanted squeaks / rattles.
That's what she said.
ahh yes. First sentence - "It's not clickbait!"
Itâs not? The video is 17 minutes long because I explained what the parts were and why I chose them. The install itself should take 5 minutes or less combined.
@@DriveItRyan sorry, i meant it as a joke...
@@neweralearning lol no worries. I wasnât sure.
How do u have less then 2k subs

5 mods in 5 mins, in a 17 minute video???
The install should take 5 minutes. Not the video.
@@DriveItRyan oh, lolz. definitely look into that then!
how parinoid do you have to be to carry?
The Shaft is longer than I thought. That's what she said.
Sorry.
â5 mods in 5 minsââŠ. In a 16 min video
5 mods in 16 minutes đ đ
Radio waves are not directed at you or your car. The Miata is lower to the ground than most vehicles. So it misses a lot more of the radio waves moving past. That is why the extra long radio antenna. With a stubby say goodbye to all but very local radio stations.
Fine with me! I did it entirely for looks but thatâs good info for those that are concerned with the radio. I prefer listening to the intake and exhaust with the top down đ
Take the seat out just say takes 5 min
Donât know if I wood change that knob
5 mods in 5 minutes...Video is almost 17 minutes....
Very true but I timed the actual install. Installing these without any sort of explanation would be kind of pointlessâŠ
