    The Sledge is already my favorite. It amazes me on how it recovers from nasty crashes. Crashes that would end a session on most trucks. I’ve broken things, but the Sledge is the goto for daily bashing, for now.

    Gives me an overall better feeling driving with spiral gears in my front/rear diff in my xmaxx. In my centre i use carbon steel gears i believe they add about 20% strenght. So my break or wearout points are now my drive cups and stub axle which is an easy fix and have them on stock

    • @DoRC

      Spiral gears are definitely stronger though they do add an axial force component which can be problematic with the unconstrained pinion gear on the X-Maxx.

      Yeah when they offer the upgraded gears at the exact same time as they release the product it is hard to imagine that they don't realize there's a deficiency. That being said I've had good luck with their gears for the most part. As long as they're shimmed correctly they work pretty well.

      @DoRC  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Unfortunately I don't have my sledge anymore. It is pretty straightforward though. You just need to remove the center differential by removing the screws that hold it in at the top. Once you have the center diff out just take the four screws off that hold it together, remove the side gear that should be stuck to the spur gear slide the pin out that's underneath it pull the differential cup off that was held in by that pin removed the little o-ring and gasket then just put it all back together on the new gear. Hope that helps :-) Thanks for the sub!

To figure it out though you just need a pair of calipers and measure the part of the gear that the bearing goes on. @@FLPatrick1095 yeah marketing is marketing unfortunately. Everything is going to be purported to be the best thing ever. That being said I'm really happy with mine. There aren't very many other RCS that I've owned that haven't broken anything out of the box in the first dozen packs or so. After making this video I did notice I'm having a drive shaft pin migrate on me though so that's not cool. Fortunately Traxxas warranty is pretty good

    Also those traxxas gears aren't good as you think. I had many throughout the years especially my slash and they keep breaking. The stockers are cheap and can be bought from the many chop shops on ebay. Traxxas uses cheap materials and are not worth there price tag.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 2 lety

      I've had really good experiences with Traxxas upgraded gears. That being said I had don't have a lot of experience with their 3s line. I suspect these will probably be fine. I guess time will tell. The problem with the chop shops is that they almost always sell full differentials not just the gears. Anyway thanks for watching and commenting and a sub is appreciated!

  • @toolbaggers
    @toolbaggers Před 2 lety +1

    Not a huge fan of this video because you completely ignored the inherently weakier design of the assembled DIFFERENTIAL unit due to the missing tabs on the new ring gear. This was a deliberate oversight on your part. You could have at least said that in your opinion you don't think it matters but you chose the "don't ask, don't tell" route. Sure the gear might be stronger itself but the screws and diff case now how to deal with a lot more localized stress. Lets see if the plastic diff case now fails. If that fails all the other gears will strip inside the diff, maybe the bulkheads will fail too.
    You have to look at the system as a whole. If you change one part it affects all the other parts.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 2 lety +1

      I didn't deliberately overlook it I just don't think it's relevant. There are plenty of other differentials in RC that don't use those tabs. It's not an issue. I don't see any reason it'll be an issue here either. I'm not sure why Traxxas chose to have them on the stock gears but they could have easily included them on the upgraded ones as well if they were actually necessary. Honestly it didn't even occur to me to mention it because it's not really relevant.
      I appreciate your opinion and your passion but I didn't deliberately do anything in this case.
