Wow! How lucky am I that you and/or your husband have Edgecombe County roots. I have ancestors living there back to the early 1700s and recognized several family names on the maps. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, and your guest Monika for this gold mine of information and sources. Now on to part two!
She is great!
What !!! Never knew there was a county in America called Edgecombe, learn something new everyday 🤣
I traced my ancestry to Raleigh, North Carolina a plantation named Conecanary owned by North Carolina State Senator William Henry Haywood.
Back in the early to mid 1700's I had families living in Guilford,Buncombe and rowan counties. Also in stokes and Granville Counties.
My jones and Williams were in rowan County.
Also on east side on nc I had duncans, ellis, mulkeys and scarborough families living in that region.
Just found the NC Genealogy you tube videos and am really impressed. My ancestors, William Garrett and Narcissa Edmondson, were from Edgecombe County. They left there around 1859.
Excellent. Thanks for the comment.

It just occurred to me that there is a woman Pam Edmondson that works for the Edgecombe County Library. You might be related?
How about mewlin, alamance county
I’ve tracked my family back to this county but I’m having trouble finding any more info
Look in neighboring counties too.
When the county borders changed, did the vital records follow the counties?
Not always. I would check both counties and the state archives. Also know that some of these counties, like Martin, were burned counties. All the more reasons to check in all surrounding counties and state archives for other records that may exist.
i'm trying to find more information on my freeman and sharpe family. also my great grandmother who was adopted by the purvis family, i believe she was the daughter of a Lynch man.
I've seen the name Purvis in census records many times.
