      Love the new sofa and chair! The color is fire!!!
      Have you thought about doing steampunk decor? Hell I need to buy a house just to decorate it LOL and my theme would be kind of long the same color scheme you have going on in your home which is beautiful by the way but I will twist it with Gothic steampunk witchy vibes because we love Halloween that's my wedding anniversary lol. Have you guys thought about hanging black Lacey top curtains in the dining living room area? That will bring a bit of The Addams family vibe I think. And that drip silver table was awesome!! Totally love that one! 🖤🖤🖤🖤

      me and my bf are about to move in together and I am definitely going to use some natural dark/rich wood tones, velvet, and either blue, red, or green as an accent. I really hope you didnt paint that lil shelf with a flat black and got a black wood stain that allows the grain to show through.... when you have real wood I believe it looks better (most of the time) stained than painted...... layered curtains, cloches, candelabras.... I am looking for those really tall Victorian couches in either velvet or corduroy
      EDIT: one thing that peeves me about "modern" homes is how bright everything is (if I remember correctly its to make the area look larger than it really is) all the walls are white and the wood is lighter..... need to bring in the doom and gloom...

    Hey ghouls! I also live in a very modern space, but have old-timey taste. My trick for dialing the aesthetics back a couple decades (or centuries) is definitely patterns. The Victorians loved them some patterns. While I really like that Jonathan Adler rug, it's very modern - graphic rather than patterned. On the Ruggable site you scrolled past a couple Persian-esque rugs with ornate patterns but in black and white. If you find something along those lines that you enjoy, I think that between a patterned rug, and that lovely mirror on the mantle piece, everything feel just a bit more Addams. Plus, mixing up prints on the sofa with some pillows, and maybe a black and white paisley throw would really bring the Victoriana vibes. Whatever you decide, I know your family will be stylish and comfortable. Happy decorating and looking forward to seeing all the process!

      I agree. I can’t even imagine how she could have an Adam’s Family home without color or pattern. Wallpaper is your friend.

      @cinnamonlehto4292 Před 2 lety +7

      Yes! This is great advice! I think you’re right about the JA rug even though I absolutely love it. And I really think the beige would work fine with all black, white, gray, and silver. I think it would really just add a bit of warmth without looking clashy and gross. I think you can totally mix the modern with the Victorian aesthetic by creating vignettes and tying things together with colors and patterns.
      Jade if you see this- it really seems like you need to get at least a little goth Victorian Penny Dreadful moment in your house. I think the mantle is the perfect place to do that. I think the mirror you like would totally work. Along with that just go all out with that for things like the mantle, that shelf you’re going to paint, and maybe your dining table behind the sofa? You could do something really cool there with an old looking centerpiece. Oh, but before you get that mirror I’d check some thrift stores to see if you can find an even more ornate one for a good price that you can paint black, gray, white, or silver.

    I think you should use a lot of Art Deco style stuff. That is always a great mix of modern and graphics. I think it would look great in your monochromatic scheme and fit your vibe. That way you have a black and white base but the simple lines and reliefs give some texture. ❤

  • @GingerLicorice
    @GingerLicorice Před 2 lety +8

    Hi Jade! I live in a 1940s/50s era building, so I understand the struggle when the goal is a Victorian goth aesthetic. I have long black velvet curtains that I hung up at ceiling level to make the windows seem taller & older than they are. I also haunt estate sales, thrift stores, & auctions for antique apothecary jars, busts, & gilded frames that I cluster together to make gallery walls. There may be a skull or two dotted around... Just like your wonderful Halloween decor collection, these things haven taken years & years to accumulate & the hunt is never over! :) Of course, all of my furniture is black with pintuck dark blue velvet & black floral pillows. I have a large Persian rug with jewel tone colors, but with a black background to tie all that blackness together. I have no doubt your living room transformation will be killer no matter what style you choose. Best of luck with everything! 🖤🦇

    A really fun way to “dark-ify” a modern space, is to paint the wall/walls black. I also add rounder furniture vs angular furniture. Also using rich fabrics, like velvets, etc. #DarkInteriorDecorator

  • @klove4945
    @klove4945 Před 2 lety +3

    Hey Ghoul, I think you should go with a more Persian style black and white rug if your going more victorian, but if you're going more modern I think the Jonathan Adler rug was the best. This might be off topic but adding some vintage black candle holders on the sides of the mantle will definitely give that dark victorian vibe, love the new couch

    Hi!! 🖤 I too live in a modern apartment and LOVE victorian/ gothic home design. I recommend: sourcing vintage furniture through FB marketplace, adding baroque or victorian inspired wall paper, installing gothic chandeliers/ light fixtures, and painting your window, door, and room trims black. Some are of course more renter friendly than others, but consider these options when trying to transform your modern space into a gothic one! 🖤🕷

    So enjoyed this!!.. our house is upcyled, year round skulls, and color pops with Pop culture peices (Andy Warhol and Jonathan Adler Peices). I do a lot of upcyling ..including lighting made from cool liquor bottles and vintage cameras. Accent walls of black and even a mustard yellow door.. people often say it's like an art museum.. haha. I've also upcyled a real fire hydrant into a side table and we have are real functional traffic light hanging in a corner of our living room. I'm a stay at home mom and artist and my husband is a photographer.

I'm obsessed with that end table as well. Oh my gosh I love it! I'm saving this video so I can get that when I'm able to afford it. I think that mirror would make your mantel wall look really nice. I’m a spooky B, but I love mid-mod/boho/industrial with a touch of modern farmhouse decor. Honestly, I’d say eclectic because I also love vintage lol. I just find one thing that speaks to me, then find everything else to go with. I also have ADHD, so I also look like a tornado when designing a room lol. It all ends up coming together though! • @overstuffedghosty
    @overstuffedghosty Před 2 lety +1

    I’d pull the trigger on the JA rug and the drip table. Your flooring is light enough that it will blend in. Just be familiar with their return policy if you hate it that much! TBH you sounded the most excited for that one!
    As for the mirror I’d hold off and check out some antique shops and you could find one thrifting that you can add wood motifs from Lowes/Menards/Home Depot to add to it to get the the look of the one you showed us and a little diy moment for us to see! 👻
    That’s what I’d do. I’m prepped and ready to paint our living room, part of the kitchen/dining area hallway and our bedroom and master bath in “Repose Gray”. SO is about to install a new handmade bar from reclaimed 100 year old wood for our pass thru window. And I’ve still got to put up the rest of the stuff on the walls (and the 👻 framed prints I got for Christmas) and I’m itching to redo/update the LO’s room to a big boy room! 🥰 I would have started weeks ago but we got covid and recovered but I’m still doing OT for my thumb that almost ripped off and had surgery on back in November. I’m still not supposed to hold anything over 5lbs with my left hand. Some how the LO thinks it’s totally ok to pick him up tho 😂
    Oh, the goal is spooky farm house since we actually live “out on the farm” in the country.

    I live in an apartment that was built in the 90's. But, it has some actual Craftsman touches, like a chair rail all around the living room and trim around the doorways. My decor style is Gothic, Victorian, Industrial. Dark, rich jewel tones, earth tones and of course lots of black. I decorate with antiques, lots of antique and vintage books, curiosity and oddities and antique taxidermy. Very Addams family style!

  • @hiimchuckiewannaplay
    @hiimchuckiewannaplay Před 2 lety

    Jade I think it is so funny you are into pure black and white color schemes when I am very into the softer black and beige color schemes. I feel like that is what softens the look and makes it look more vintage/antique vs modern. I know you want to blend the two and you are KILLING IT! Seriously your house always looks amazing. But, if you are trying to make it look more Addams family, they did have a bit more color/softness/ornate patterns going on. I bet you can find a way to keep the silver/pure white colors and manage to make it look more victorian/antique. If anyone could do it, you can!!! Love this new series and VERY excited to see what other changes you make. I know having a good couch is going to be a game changer for you and dallas and the pups!

    I’m home decor obsessed, I have a very electric style. But overall I love moody colors with bold pops, love contrast of black of white. I have a couple of those ornate mirrors and they had so much character. Which is def what you want with Victorian style. I love the Jonathan rug, it could work in your space as long as you bring that color in other ways. You want to repeat a color three times in a space in order to bring it together. Your wood bookcase could be part of the three. It’s a gorgeous standout rug.

    My house is a 1930s Cape Cod. And I love every inch of her. I try to keep all original things. The light fixtures and hard wood floors sold me. We have been there for a long time. Bought her at a STEAL OF A DEAL as she was a motivated sale. So we have updated over the years. I just redid my kitchen, and now I am moving on to the bathrooms and all doors and flipping a lot of furniture in order to fit my Victorian goth cottage core dark a ademia style. AND IT BOGS MY BRAIN! But I will tell you, don't let beige and. Reams concern you. They turn out to be more Vixtorian and Goth than you can imagine. I brought in a more traditional rug into my loving room with beige and it warmed up the place. Rust, and emerald green followed. Skulls, candles and lanterns come in to play, too. I am in a happy zone in my living room. And my kitchen which we redid and my hubby built me a gorgeous countertop. My style is not modern by any means. But we all have to make our homes a home. You know?

    Ugh. Projects. I had this idea to do a wall in my office. It was a plain wall and I didn’t know how I wanted to set it up. I ended up buying this cool storage credenza (lots of storage, black wood grain, contemporary meets industrial). I like it. But I knew I needed some shelving above it. Took me ages to decide on some ikea shelves. Now, I need to paint the wall. Again, took me a month to decide on the color. I wanted a light brown; something that leans warm but not too warm. My office is white & black so I wanted to add a touch of a warm neutral to ground it but not too warm. I like to mix my metallics so it had to work with both gold & silver. Finally decided, ordered it and now I am sitting here eating breakfast and know that I have to start taping off everything today. I’m not feeling it but we gonna do it. 😝

    talking about a Gothic home, what speaks to you when visualizing a perfect gothic home? For me it’s gotta have a big beautiful fireplace where the flames can burn high and cast hellish shadows against the living room walls.

    Love to redecorate! The silver table and black mirror are amazing! The rug is really nice but the beige may throw off everything else? I would just google black and white rugs maybe something else would be better? The mirror above the fireplace is going to look amazing!! Can’t wait to see part two!🖤🖤

    Hey ghoul hey, can’t wait to see it finished. Just scratching my head on the funky rug. The pic shows it against a grey wall, so it being cream instead of white doesn’t look so obvious. However, you have super white walls and I think it’ll stand rt out that it’s cream n black and not black n white. Just a thought. Hope it all works out and you figure it out! Can’t wait to see!!

    Hi, from South Africa.We have a lot of antique furniture and so we went the old fashioned look of bygone era with as usual being South African, we also incorporated the African crafts etc. So we have a lot of colour in our home mixed with antique. I suppose some would call it a bit of cluttercore, as I'm not a minimal person.

    My living room is baby pink grey and white with touches of rose gold. I’m SUPER bummed I didn’t get more of the pink Halloween decor at Michaels bc I’m wanting to move in more of a vintage direction. Our bedroom however is 100% gothic cottage core and I’m Obsessed! It’s black and hunter green with very little pops of purple.

    For inspiration I search pinterest. I don't have a goth style even though I love it but you can find any style there. Just by typing what you're looking for. Also facebook has a ton of specific home style pages so try there. I'm sure no matter what it will come out fabulous!

    Hey Ghoul Hey! Love you and your show. Nice couch by the way, and I love the drip table! You have great style, just go with what makes you happy and don't question it. We just got new flooring and redoing each room, starting with the bedroom which will be purple and that drip table would be purrfect! Thank you for inviting us into your home and sharing your unique take on things. Keep Ghouling on!

    so i love the table and the mirror, the rug, i totally get what you’re saying about it possibly clashing because it’s that off white creamy color. i almost feel like the brown rug with black skeletons might be the way to go because it will make the skeletons pop, but not clash with the white and black happening. it’s not a very warm toned brown either so i think it could look really cute.
    personally i would go with the witchcraft rug in my space, but i’m just that extra 😇

    Ummm I love this!! And I think the rug would be great and against your wood floors I think it would look more white than off white with the contrast.

    I think your home is primed for some postmodern elements, especially on the mantle. Perhaps a black vintage Haegar statue or deco wave lamps to bring interesting dark decor into the room that feels vintage the way victorian accents might but with a more minimal twist that complements the contemporary structure of the room.

    H&M Home has a large grey-toned washed out traditional style rug (that’s my best description but I know you know what I mean 😅). I bought the more beige-toned one for my living room and I always get compliments on it. Goes great with black furniture 🖤

    probably late but I feel like the stripey rug wouldn't be too hard to diy! either by cutting up black and white rugs to make a similar pattern or just get a white rug and paint it black with some fabric paint or something. that'd be really cool I think. I feel like it's worth it to look for a rug you really love instead of just settling for something you're not 100% sold on :)
