A player's speed does not matter if they are batting. So the batter, with fast speed, that hit the double only advances 2 bases. Speed only matters if you are already on base.
One of my absolute favorite video games was Super Baseball 2020 on SNES. It had men, women and robots. It was fantastic. You even had the ability to steal homeruns using a super jump at the edge of the fence. You earned money throughout the game and could buy power ups. This game looks interesting as a deck builder as well. :)
As MrSpank35 explained, I think you misquoted the rules around 4:15 here they are for reference:
What is the difference between how a Batter moves and how a Base Runner moves
when a Threatened Hit is resolved?
Batters only move the number of bases indicated by the Hit no matter their speed. All Batters will go to 1st base on a Single, 2nd base on a Double, 3rd base on a Triple, and home for a Home Run.
Base Runners have different abilities based on their speed:
» Slow Base Runners only advance based on the Hit.
» Average Base Runners work the same way as Slow Base Runners with the exception that an Average Base Runner on 2nd base will advance 2 bases on a Single (and score).
» Fast Base Runners advance 1 more base than the value of the Hit.
I swear if the designer makes a series out of this as he with mystert rummy, I'll go crazy if he makes a basketball themed game.
Glad to see sports game getting some attention on the Tower. Hopefully this game opens up the world of sports board games to the general public. There are so many great baseball games out there, it's just that they are from (relatively) smaller companies.
I played this game at Origins last year, and man, I can't wait for this to come out. I wish I had backed the Kickstarter. Instead, I've got it pre-ordered. Love it!
Huge baseball fan too. Aside from that, though, this does look like it will be a hit. Hopefully out in time for the next season. Funny thing too is I watched this review on my lap top in my office where I have my framed Sandy Koufax cards (my all time favorite player!) on the wall just above my desk. It will be interesting to see if people who are not big baseball fans will enjoy this game.
Little worries at the beginning of the review too, but looks like a lot of fun! Especially since you can get two games going simultaneously.
I am a baseball fan , but I really didn't get excited about this one. But Tom you did it again, this take my favorite sport and really stream lines it. So both people are hitting and defending, keeps it interesting. Getting this one.
So I'm confused Tom is this a 2 player game or a 4 players game or 2 groups of 2 simultaneously with no interactions between the two groups?
Ermm, totally sounds like a better game that Tom might have forgotten when explaining this. This game is sort of like a somewhat dry version of Blood Bowl Team Manager in many ways.
Looks awesome! Excited if they add more teams in expansions like First and Goal! Baltimore maybe? :)
Love this game!!!
Big baseball fan here. I'm really into the more statistical games like Strat O Matic and such, but this game really intrigues me. My wife and daughter might even play this one with me!
Even with another baseball junkie you could play a full world series in a real short time, say half an hour or so.
Neither is Statis Pro.
At 4:22, doesn't the slow runner impede the fast runner's progress?
With 8 months delay, I've just looked up the rule, from the rules:
Only 1 Base Runner can occupy a base and Base Runners cannot pass one another. Base Runners may not be able to advance their full number of bases because of a slower runner in front of them.
The fast runner does not go one more base on the hit he makes himself. The runner speeds only come in play once they've established themselves on base. Thus if you have a card that says double single fast. Your first guy would stop at 2nd. Then the single would score that guy, while the 2nd fast guy stops at first. If it was single double, then first guy stops at first, and second hit bumps him home for score, and the 2nd guy stops at second.
The slower runner would have stopped at 3rd though just like what everyone thought.
Can someone Tell me Who is the distributor for this game, because i want to recommend it to a nearby store. thanks
Jean-Christophe Rioux Baseball Highlights 2045 is distributed by Eagle Games.
Yeah I know that the game is produced by them, but this is not the official distributor for Canada. For example, Days of wonder games are distributed by asmodee. I can't find which company have the rights to sell this game, because local stores cannot buy the games directly from de company. I really dont know if i'm clear with what im saying tho.
And who's on first?
From what I remember the story of the bored game is that base ball is loading interest so they bring in robots and cyborgs to make it interesting
Well... this did not really help me understand the game. I don't know what "threatening a single or double" mean, no baseball in germany ;) So, Swing and miss there for the video. But I still looks interesting. Considering getting it. Thanks for the video!
Threatening is not a baseball term. The baseball field has 4 positions that need to be advanced before scoring. Single, double, and triple refer to how many of those are moved at a time.
Randy M Threatening is a baseball term, in the sense that they are threatening to score.
Michael Gardner People are threatening to score in pretty much every game. He meant that it's not specific to baseball and he's correct.
The reason those hits are "threatening" is that a defensive card play might reduce or cancel them, just like a long hit might be caught, or in soccer a shot that would have scored can be knocked away by a defenseman or goalie.
As far as baseball board games go, I think this is a good step in the right direction, but I don't think there's enough interaction between the two sides. its almost as if each team is playing their own solitaire game of who can score the most points, and then comparing scores at the end.
I is now 2016 and it is funny, three of those teams, San Fran, LA, and Boston, are in the post season. LOL
"I know what you're thinking. I wish they would have picked good teams too."... Tom, those teams have won 8 of the last 15 World Series. San Francisco alone has won 3 World Championships in the past 5 years. I truly love the Dice Tower but you should get out more :-)
That was a joke, son. Some of us aren't fans of those teams. :)
Lol come on Rick that was sarcasm. The guy lives in Florida, I woulda said the same thing with humer, being a Cincinnati fan myself. All I'm saying is don't read so deep into this stuff and getting bitter. It's all in good fun.
Roger McKay A OHH
cool to see the bot almost won playing randomly
Wow, almost as exciting as cricket.
"I know what you're thinking. why didn't they pick good teams?" What are you talking about, lol, New York and Boston are the best two baseball franchises in history.
This looks as fun as watching paint dry.
I don't like baseball and apparently I don't like slot machines playing baseball.
Yeah San Francisco can’t possibly be a good team considering they’ve won 3 World Series in 5 years.🤦🏽♂️
Tom! You don’t know diddly about baseball!
This game looks just as boring as baseball, so I guess you could say its authentic.
