    In this video, I review a computer application called “ChordieApp” that detects notes and chords and displays them in a variety of ways including placement on the grand staff. This is a good solution if you are learning chords or you are an instructor and want people to see the exact notes/chords you are playing as you play them.
    The app is MIDI compatible and can analyze any MIDI device that is connected to your computer. You can position the windows anywhere on the screen which makes it great for live presentations or to make your own videos. It’s the perfect way to demonstrate your performance especially if your goal is to help guide people with the exact notes/chords you are playing.

    I was really hoping to see your signal flow, because I'm experimenting right now with several different apps to try to find the one I want to use. For MIDI input i've got an onyx producer 2-2, does this app detect midi in and outs for devices like that, or just USB?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello @Curtis Merrill. You should be able to use your Onyx Producer 2-2 for the MIDI or you could just go directly from your keyboard into your computer via USB (assuming your keyboard has a USB out which carries MIDI). The ChordieApp can detect MIDI no matter where it's coming in from (but you do have to select it of course in the preferences of the App). So, to answer your question, yes the ChordiApp program should have no problem recognizing MIDI coming in from your Onyx. Keep in mind, that this app is Mac only. Best of luck!

    Is it possible to simultaneously capture audio using Garage Band and record the visual display of notes and chords from the ChordieApp?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hello @EtherealRis In short, I believe the answer is YES! Thanks for your question. If you want to capture the visual display of notes via the chords from ChordieApp somehow, the assumption is that you would need screen capture software like SnagIt, Screenflow, Camtasia, Quicktime, or many others that do this. GarageBand doesn't record anything "visually", so that would only capture the audio.
      However, I think what you are really asking is whether the ChordiApp works simultaneously while recording audio into GarageBand. The answer is YES! The ChordiApp activates independently of any other program. It's "always listening" in the background for incoming MIDI regardless of what you might be doing with GarageBand or Logic (or any other MIDI program) at the time. Think of it as an independent "MIDI Monitor" gauge that will run alongside anything else you have going, and it won't get in the way of anything you do to record MIDI or audio. I do this all the time when making my videos. (I use "Screenflow" to capture the screen, audio, and video for my videos by the way).

    Nice! Is it possible to change the tuning of the guitar strings?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 2 měsíci

      @erik9817 Eric, this is an excellent question. Unfortunately after exploring the settings in the program, there appears to be no way to tune the strings other than the traditional tuning. There is no option for a capo either. There is an experimental feature that allows you to adjust the string and frett count, but that feature seems unrelated to tuning. Hope this info helps!

      @starduststereo8705 Great question. I don't know of something equivalent to the iPad. I think that GarageBand does in fact display the chord name and the keyboard (but not the staff). You would think that something out there does exist for the iPad by now but I didn't do the research. If you find something, please come back here and let us know about it if you can! You could potentially reach out to the author of the ChordiApp software and ask them as well - I'm sure they get this request all the time.
