    I would say Aemond and his brothel worker reminding you of Mary holding Jesus is very much readable as a mother holding her son. So It's not about evoking the image of Aemond as Jesus but the image of the relationship between the two, which very much has maternal conotations

      Totally, I also thought the symbolism is more focused on the sex-worker lady as a mother (with a tragic destiny related may be)

    Viserys didnt talk about Aegon's dream in s1 e3, he talked about his own dream. He never talked about the "song of ice of fire" or "the prince that was promised"
    Alicent's sept routine wasnt from Rhaenyra's memory she literally asked Mysaria about where/when to go to meet her.

    Preston I think you’re looking way too far into the Jesus statue thing. This is an issue that you have with a lot of your content, in that in your mind you noticed the similarity between the statue and the pose and thus concluded “oh wow so that means the scene is supposed to have all of the symbolism of the statue”.
    Besides a passing similarity of a mother figure holding a smaller person there is no comparison and no correlation between the statue and Aemond besides one in which you choose to interpret it, lol. It was clearly a scene meant to show that the woman is a comfort figure for Aemond, and which he got mocked for by Aegon in the third episode. There is literally nothing there about Aemond being a Christ figure besides that you noticed a similarity between the scene and the statue and concluded “oh so they’re definitely portraying Aemond as Jesus and the prostitute as Mary” based on literally nothing outside of a comparison you made of a statue you’re aware of and which the creators wouldn’t possibly expect viewers to conclude.
    Not sure if you were joking or not but, cmon man, they obviously are not trying to say Aemond is Jesus or a Christ analogue
    To the statue, the idea of a mother comforting her son is the primary message beyond the religious symbolism. That is what makes it a powerful image after-all, and the goal of renaissance religious art was often to capture the human elements of the Bible stories. Such as, for instance, a mother comforting her beleaguered son. That is a universal message, and a scene which depicts a similar scene of comfort should first be compared to a mother’s care rather than a specific renaissance statue about Jesus
    Much love, you’re my favorite ASOIAF creator, but you’re stretching way too far there lol

    Well, in the books Aegon II. is disguised as peasant to get out of Kings Landing. He has burns on his body so he shoud be easilly recognised. Then he gets to Dragonstone by fishboat (same as Rhaenyra) and hidd in the castle. This is much more absurde than the ending of this episode

      @b1bbscraz3y Před 18 dny +8

      no it is not. it can be absurd in its own right. but it is in no way whatsoever more absurd than Rhaenyra getting that close to Alicent making herself known and leaving King's Landing without getting arrested or killed. it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. especially after Rhaenyra flashed a knife to Alicent like she would shank her own childhood best friend. that should throw the whole "they won't kill each other they're friends" thing out the window, at least from Alicent's perspective since she was LITERALLY just directly threatened with being shanked by the person who was her childhood best friend. and especially AFTER Alicent's 6 year old grandson was just killed IN HIS BED like 2 days before this. it makes absolutely no sense. Alicent should be terrified that this was the second instance in the same week that someone was able to get this close to members of the royal family INSIDE King's Landing INSIDE the Red Keep and INSIDE the sept to be that close to her. no logic whatsoever

Alicent and Rhaenyra are doing nothing in the book, even tho they are main characters. Rhaenyra wants to prevent the war and the onlyone who will hear her is Alicent, but she will not listen to her by messages so she has to meet her in person and explaine herself. As I already said the travel by fishboat happens even in the book so that shoudnt be the problem. It looks like to me that the knife incident happens because Rhaenyra is a bit stresed and as she herself said it was a mistake and she starts the conversation over again. And that Alicent didnt make her arrested is because she belives that Rhaenyra didnt killed her gradson and really dont want the war to happen. But yeah I also undestand your point of view

    Rhaenyra accuses her war council of treason merely for advising her to leave them, only to then immediately leave on her own accord on a foolish and highly dangerous mission, that results in Alicent telling her the exact same thing her war council already told her: "there is no way back, stop being silly and start living in the real world".
    She's a pretty bad queen and she gets worse the more she listens to Rhaenys, who seems to love accusing Rhaenyra's advisors of disloyalty merely for giving advice she disagrees with.
    Show Rhaenyra and Book Rhaenyra are completely different characters at this point though. Honestly, a story my elderly, history and prophecy consumed husband told me 10, 12 years ago while he was drunk and I had a toddler, a baby and a moody ex-GF/step-daughter to mind at a stupid hunt wouldn't exactly be a peak, important memory. Alicent has been listening to Vis ramble on about Valerya and prophecy and dragons since she was s kid. He probably told her WAY TOO MANY stories mixing history and the future and dreams and dragons, etc.

And just be left at the side, wounded and beaten bloody. The rest could even play out as it was, with Jon's contribution just being that he bought Arya and Bran time. If we had time, we could even see him try to grasp with why he was such a failure in his eyes...

    Oh, I am oh Alicent missed a huge opportunity but to be Rhaenyra missed twice as badly. I’ll explain:
    1. When it seemed as though the conversation between her and Romero was about to end, if I was Allison, I would’ve tried to find a way to head to the train, and on that path told one of the guards in order to have them cease Rhaenyra. She is the pivotal piece on the chessboard of the blacks, and it would be insane not to have captured her to at the very least hold her hostage and force terms of surrender on to team black.
    2. Rhaenyra was foolish because she should’ve known at the very least with her brother Aegon as King, Alicent would have no power nor control to sway the decisions of team green because she would also have to assume that her father Otto Hightower is still there as well. And in between the two Alicent‘s control has ceased.
    3. To me the double mistake by Rhaenyra if not, the biggest mistake of all, is that Rhaenyra could’ve just as easily done the same thing as my first point with Alicent, where if the talks of a parlay seemed to be going nowhere, then she could just as easily have taken that knife covered her mouth and snuck her out of the Cept onto the boat and back to Dragon Stone and kept Allison as a hostage, in order to possibly force terms and the surrender of team green.

IF you’re going to parallel the two, wouldn’t this make that true? The directors surely wanted us to notice Larys in the Black Council scene, despite Aegon going crazing yelling, but the camera focuses in on Larys. It’s not even subtle. So say you? and the fact that Rhaenyra flashes a knife to Alicent as if she would shank her childhood best friend should throw out the entire "they were friends they won't kill each other" idea at least from Alicent's perspective because she was literally DIRECTLY threatened with being shanked BY the person who was her friend. I actually dont mind Allicent not remembering, or understanding as i saw it, what Viserys told her around a bon fire drunk when she was 17 yrs old. Or however old she was, she was a child still regardless. Like...if i were her...id probably be thinking he had too much to drank and wasnt making sense, and that by the end, he wanted an Aegon on the throne instead. Like.. wouldnt even remember that drunken night. To me, its the fact her mentioning the prince who was promised instills doubt in both, after Rhaenyra tries to play it off as an old story about Aegon the Conqueror. Neither doubted their positions. I know it was from history book and history is muddled with biases, but....certain parts never changed no matter the perspective, and biases. And both of them feeling in the right without doubt was one of those parts.
    Also, people who keep pointing out its supposed to be read like a history book dont really understand how historians gather their info on history, especially history only 300 yrs old with tons of writing to at least back up what we find. History is written the way it is to include all persectives...yes...while making clear note of who was on whose side, who was even alive and knew them, or how close to that time they were alive, and HOW biased they are.
    Take Elizabeth I. There were a LOT of rumors, and we see them all portrayed in different shows and media. Historians will point out those rumors, but also they will point out this person who said this lived in this era and supported this person, who was opposed to this person, which was conncted to Elizabeth in this way, and therefore was more likely a smear campaign against the family as a whole. But theyll also say, this person, while clear doesnt lets go with her mom, Anne, who doesnt like Anne very much, is very clearly giving their opinion, but is still being honest, as they show praise where appropriate, and other events that could be seen as smear or otherwise are backed up by very obvious non biased parties writing of the same thing.
    Basically, you have sources that are heavily baised, and cant be more obvious, that you take with a grain of salt. Then there are sources who may have biases, but are proven to be honest by other accounts discussing the same thing.
    They will tell you when something is more likely not true and why, and will tell you something is very likely true, because trustworthy sources also claim validity.
    And THATS how you treat a history book. The unreliable sources you push out of your head, and the ones who are trustworthy, you assume is more likely telling the truth of the matter.
    So if thats how you read a history book, then a good chunk of this story isnt being considered for the wrong reasons.
    Oh, and right, and if something is written about by multiple sources, in the time period, all over, you can bet its probably true. Like the well known death of a king or prince. No one questions if Prince Arthur died of a sickness. It wasnt a secret, and well known by MANY at that time.
    When sources all agree on something, you can assume it more than likely happened.

      On a meta level I get why they had it as a scene. The show has made the two’s relationship a core aspect of its drama. And in the source material I don’t think they ever see each other again so they added this bit in to let the two actors ham it up. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s an absurdly dangerous and just dumb thing to do in-universe

      it's not like it's from leaks, the story is already there in Fire and Blood. I would think Preston goes by the assumption that his viewers are book readers. (there's also no guarantee the book story will be anything the same as the show)
      ALSO if you watch the original GoT there's the biggest spoiler possible for the ending of HotD sooo you probably already knew and forgot

    • @PaulLunguMagic20
      @PaulLunguMagic20 Před 18 dny

      I know it's in the book, I haven't read it and really enjoy not knowing what's coming, there are plenty of book adaptation tv shows that could be spoiled by yt creators but they generally don't out of consideration for their audience. If you wanna talk spoilers then that's fine but maybe have a warning at the beginning, and it sucks too cause now I can't listen to Prestons reaction to hot d unless I want everything spoiled.

      Ambushes are a basic military tactic that rely upon knowing where the enemy is going to be.
      Every military man would know that and know that the way to avoid being ambushed is to make sure the enemy *doesn't* know where you're going to be.
      That's all that "CIA training" is. Basic ambush avoidance.
