- In this video we spent the day trying danish food in Copenhagen. We taste some delicious Danish food including the un-official food of Denmark, Smørrebrød. Smørrebrød is a traditional open-faced sandwich and is a very popular cuisine in Denmark. Copenhagen is also famous for its pastries so we make sure to try Kanelsnegle (Danish Cinnamon Buns) and the popular Pistachio Croissants. These are a must try when in Copenhagen.

Our visit to Copenhagen has been made extra special by the fantastic accommodation we are staying on our trip to Denmark. The wonderful Next House Copenhagen is by the far, the best place to stay in Copenhagen.

Great video. I have one correction kanelsnegel are transkated to cinnomon snail not snailbread.
Thank you so much for watching 💖 we had a wonderful time in Copenhagen, such a lovely city. We have been made aware of the incorrect translation 👍

@@GoTimeTravels Came to add this info - can confirm : o)
Some additional info:
1) Smørrebrød in a light version is a very common lunch in Denmark - usually a more flat version when it's for work / school, on rye bread.
2) The park you were in after eating at BUKA is named Frederiksberg Have (Frederiksberg Garden, basiclly).
3) Tivoli got a KILLER light show during christmas
@@Dawgside Good for you.
Cinnamon roll
I’m researching for my trip next week and every video is full of Danes giving good advice and enjoying people experiencing their cities. I’m excited to see this beautiful country.
Go to Juno the Bakery for kardemommesnurrer which is one of the best pasteries, much better than the kanelsnegl in this video. Go to Cafe Halvvejen for really good, traditional smørrebrød (open- faced sandwiches) at great prices or go to Aamanns for a more modern interpretation. You can't go wrong with either. If you go to the Gasoline Grill for burgers, the cheeseburger is the superior burger. For beer go to Fermentoren, which is close to the central station or Bootleggers across from Torvehallerne. In Østerbro Kompasset is the best place for beer and if you venture out to Nørrebro, Ølbaren in Elmegade is great. On your way you can stop by Slurp Ramen, which is simply amazing. Their veggie ramen is crazy good as is their other options. Hope you'll enjoy the city!
@@22Najse thank you so much!
You are welcome
You're welcome ☺️.
Greetings from Denmark - nice to see you enjoying some of our traditions, including the nice weather! 😉😉
Thank you 🙏 we really enjoy our time in Copenhagen, it’s such a beautiful city to visit and we so glad we came here. We will return in summer for sure….👌
As a Dane I am SO pleased you guys had a good experience tasting our different foods ☺ Cheers from Denmark, mateys! 🍻
Thank you so much 💖💖 we had such a lovely time in Copenhagen
Summer is the best weekend of the year, no question..
Lovely for a Dane to see how much you two guests enjoyed yourselves in Copenhagen. Very nice video!😊😊
Frikadeller is usually made from veal & pork, not beef. Tivoli is the 3rd oldest in the world, Bakken ( 20 min. outside CPH) is number 1 from 1583 & 2nd oldest is in Austria 1825, if i'm not mistaken. Hope you enjoyed your time here, all the best from DK ❤
frekkedeller is much better homemade on frayfan
Wurstelprater in Vienna actually opened in 1766.
Frikadeller is made of pork, but it depends where in the country🎉
there is no veil on danish frikadeller and there has never been so , det er karbonader/krebinetter der har kalvekød i sig da
@@1worldgaming18 I always use veal and pork. And many others do. But some use pure pork.
the meetballs is called frikadeller in danish.. U shuld absoluuly come back in the sommer . Its really betiful when all the flowrs is on top
Sounds amazing 🤩 we would love that…
Loved this ❤
thank you :-)
Deffinetly come back in the summer. We usually have a long vacation period during the summer here in denmark and yes people tend to go a little crazy during it in a nice way. The sun just makes you so happy when its been gone for so long.
Wholesome Dear.. Nice.. And COLD.. yummy Danish food..
Its been a long time... The winds are scary....
as a dane i have to say 52 kroner for a crossaint with filling is absolutely insane. and i even live in copenhagen. i never had it though, looked good but too expensive.
Great review on Copenhagen. Being a Dane (northern Jutland) it’s fun to watch Your excitement. Thanks for a great video. Love Your accent 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! We really appreciate you watching and so glad you liked it 💖 thank you ☘️
Glad to see you had a great time here!
We had a lovely time 🤩
Really enjoyed this, very nice!
Thank you so much 💖💖💖
What a cool video! Thanks!
Wow thanks so much 💖
Frikadeller is defo a solid choice if you wanna go traditionel danish smørrebrød. All tho my favorite is the the leverpostej/liver-pate, which isn't so scary as the name suggests, if you don't like anything made from innards. The spices in leverpostej are mostly perfectly balanced and adding pickled beetroot, onions and even thinly sliced "corned beef" makes this a really nice dish. Give it a try if you're still around Denmark or maybe next time if you're up for a return trip ;-)
I love how old that roller coaster is and to this day, it's still a fun ride!😊
i know right......it was so much fun :-)
You guys are wonderful ❤ I hope you had a good time here in Denmark ☺
Thank you! 😃 we had such a great time 🤩
Great video :) hope you enjoyed yourself. Greatings from Denmark.
Thank you for watching 💖 we absolutely loved our time in Denmark. We will definitely return in summer
Great video guys, lovely food 🎉
Thank you 😋 glad you enjoyed it 💖
Unlucky with the weather but great video 😊
thanks so much, despite the weather we had a lovely time. we are Irish, so we are used to this kind of weather lol
good selection, the pistaccio croissants is definatly a copenhagen thing just for the record. the smorrebrod with danish meatball was a solid pick, too. another good variant is the one with a fish fillette and shrimps
as a danish person im really glad u guys liked our things. u guys defently chose the best things, and denmark is also 1 of the most expensive countrys in europe.☺☺
har du vært i Norge?
@@torivarnor yeah many times like 7 i think
@@Nightfire-_- ok :)
Summer in Copenhagen will blow your mind! Sun and drinks and good times x 100!
Sounds amazing 🤩 we love that…
Regarding Danish pastries. You said it yourself, would be nice with coffee. That´s one of the reasons Danes are amongst the most coffee drinking people on earth. We have a cup of coffee with our pastries. That is the perfect match.
If you go to Tivoli I can recommend buying the pass for all rides. If you want to try two rides or more, it pays off.
You got on the right rollercoaster - to me, it's still the best one. You don't need loops and stuff, just the ffeling in the stomach on those dips.
Very true
for Tivoli doing individual tickets really doesn't pay off, the pass pays for itself once you go 2+ of the bigger rides like that rollercoaster, it's very expensive to buy individual tickets.
No kidding. 64 kr for a single ride, that is ridiculous :)
love and light to you both , and get back in the summertime.
fyn and jutland also have much to look at..
Walt Disney took inspiration from Tivoli (and a few other places like Greenfield Village) when creating Disneyland.
Ps. What a lot of tourist often don't really take into account when it comes to the prices in Copenhagen
is that the city it self is a massive tourist hotspot and the Capital of Denmark which does prop up prices in places like restaurants and pubs somewhat.
Their Almond crossaint is aaaaaamazing
We agree, delicious 😋
Yes! There are so many variants of smørrebrød there truly is something for everyone. A popular one though, is the roastbeef one
ive never heard about a pistachio croissant. but it looks good
I didn't know some of these bakeries were here in Denmark, i live just north of copenhagen in a city called Gentofte. Great video, ill be going there!
we really enjoyed the tasty cakes from the bakeries, they were delicious
Tivoli is an amusement park, but from the beginning in 1843 not with rides, which came much later.
From the beginning it was a park for taking a stroll, where Søren Kirkegaard and H.C.Andersen enjoyed that too, perhaps visiting a restaurant, and the earliest amusement was the Pantomime Theater. It was restaurated in 1873 to be what it is today, and definitely something you should have watched while there.
On Wednesday they have Wendsdaysnails which large versions of what you by at the start but made from soft dough instead of the crunchy pastry dough those are quite popular :P
Tivoli is also known as the old Garden by reason of it's decor :) And it is the third oldest amusement park in the world.
It isn't a river, it is the former harbor in Copenhagen and so clean water that at several places we have official bathing facilities! Today the industrial harbor has moved to the north. By that we have an artificial ski hill on top of an incinerator Plant! And you should be able to find an "Irish Pub" also.
I saw you both in my notifications a couple of days ago and held off on viewing the post because I knew that it was going to make me hungry...and it did grrrrr I feel like I have not had a tasty meal for months. If I gain any weight it is YOUR fault🤩
if u visit denmark again u should try our national dish. stegt flæsk med persillesove, or translated pork belly with parsley gravy. but nice to see that u liked denmark. and funny enough every time i see at video with people. coming to denmark. they always say at the end, how much they where surprised, about how much they liked the country.
if you come in summer hit me up! I'll take to you to the not so mainstream places! Thanks for the content!
Wow thanks so much 💖 that’s so kind…
At my work 2 smørrebrød is so damn popular that the lady in the cantina cant keep up - its the one with a crispy fish and remoulade (a mayonnaise with small relish pieces and a touch of curry) on top, and the one with boiled egg, mayonnaise and small but plenty shrimps ❤ MMmh im getting hungry now
Nice video, instead for city centrum, you should go too places not so far away from centrum, 5 to 10 min. walks, Vesterbro, Nørrebro, when you will see low prices, and there are small lokals pups/ bar, beer cost around 20 or 25 dkk. and your will enjoy
the lokal people and have fun. There are so many good restaurants to a very low prices, and the food is very high class.
I like your have fun here in Copenhagen.
Kanelsnegl translates to cinnamon snail. there's also a romsnegl, which is the same pastry, but the glaze is made with rum essence and topped with sprinkles
Danish summer is literally the best. Parks and streets are filled with joy, cold beers, swimming in the canals, big festivals... and i'll ensure you that all danes can agree :D
I loooove Tuborg classic
Us too 🤩🤩🤩
Another very traditional topping on "smørrebrød" is pickled herring.
oh thanks for letting us know, we will have to try next time we are in Copenhagen :-)
@@GoTimeTravels Pickled herring it the perfect smørrebrød because you have the umami and richness of the herring combined with the salt, sugar and acid from the brine. And the rye bread adds texture to the soft fish and some sharpness from the onions on top and....
Gotta go get me some pickled herring now!
Food looks great! we call those type of Sandos open faced when they are not full sandwiches. You had me at pistachio croissant, lol. Wow yum. I am putting burka on my google maps list for Denmark someday. That cream 😢 was that guy standing up on the coaster?! Cool fact about Disney big fan of Disney. Is Copenhagen the city with the little mermaid? Great coasters, food and fun! Slainte 🍻
Buka
I am Danish so thanks for your video. If you want to come here again chose late/mid August. At that time it is less crowdy but the weather is still nice (usually). Next time try the danish hotdog. Try some microbreweries. And perhaps our national dish: "Stegt flæsk med persillesovs". Yes you have to google it. It is often served ad libitum so you can eat until you explode.
tivoli is a really exphensive place to eat.....😋
Oh yes please come back during the summer, maybe for the Jazz Festival. We really are a different people then. And then explore the rest of the city. I was actually shocked at how expensive things were in your video. Obviously Danes have higher wages than most people, but wow. In the "bro" areas, you will find authentic bodegas and smørrebrød at a completely different price level. Bro means cobbled in Danish and the bro areas are the districts that were built after 1857, when the fortifications were given up and cobbled streets were established.
Its actually not rivers, but part of the harbour. Enjoyed watching 😊
try visit tivoli in december :D
at night time
Hi im danish and these foods are really good❤
You should try some of the "real" danish meals when there. Try a hotdog with everything (remoulade, mustard, ketchup, fried and fresh onions and pickles), bøfsandwich with sauce and Cocio drink, Stegt flæsk with persille sauce for some "real" danish meals.
The food in and around Tivoli is very expensive, just so you know. Prices are more fair other places.
Maybe already mentioned But the oldest theme park in the world is also in Copenhagen , a place callled Bakken, just outside the city in a suburb called klampenborg, opened in 1583.
But it isn't the kind of Park which is also Tivoli. But it is on the edge of a deer park and a large open area, but also with a fine open Wooden Rollercoaster, a little more "scary" than the one in Tivoli.
lovely vid XD
Thank you so much ☺️
Tivoli is not the second oldest Amusement Park in the world, but the third oldest from 1843 as You said!
Prater Wien or Wienre Prater opened to public 1766 as the second oldest Amusement Park in the world!
But we do have the oldest Amusement Park in Denmark too, Bakken from 1583 as the worlds oldest Park!
So we have two out of the three oldest Amusement Parks in the world!!!
Kind regards the Danish Viking
Thanks so much for the information, very helpful thank you 🤩🤩🙌🙌👌👌
You did it just right with the smørrebrød.
The trick is to get a bit of everything in one bite.
Most versions have evolved over centuries, and the ingredients are meant to compliment eachother in flavor, texture and smell.
The luxurious edition you got, is not what people usually make, when they prepare the every day smørrebrød at home. It’s a less “ornamented” version, that can be eaten without the cutlery.
Depending on your definition of “amusement park”, Tivoli Gardens is “only” the 3rd oldest amusement park in the world.
The oldest is also in Copenhagen. Situated north of Copenhagen in Klampenborg. “Dyrehavsbakken” (“Bakken”). Est. 1583.
2nd oldest is “Wurstelprater” in Austria. Est. 1766.
Tivoli was built around 30 years after the french revolution. Social unrest were widespread through Europe, and an argument for building it was “people are less likely to revolt, when they’re entertained”.
Walt Disney was heavily influenced by it, when he was planning of building his own in Anaheim, California in 1955.
Kanelsnegl = Cinnamonsnail
The park were you saw the duck in the "lake" are the remains of the old moat around Copenhagen. The same goes for the lakes in Tivoli.
If you ever wanna try something unique, go to Legoland in Billund, it's quite the experience, mostly for families n stuff, but i bet y'all could get a fun day out of it or at least a couple of hours :)
Me and the fam went there when I was a kid so many times, still enjoying it to this day :)
The more traditional pieces of smørrebrød have got names.
Someone already mentioned The Vets Nightdish (Dyrlægens Natmad).
Rye with liverpate, salt meat and meat jelly. Typically topped with watercress and red onion.
The salt meat is probably a danish thing, the meat jelly (kraftsky) certainly is.
Another one is Sun Above Gudhjem (Sol Over Gudhjem).
Rye with smoked herring topped with chives, red onion raw yolk and maybe some radish.
Watch out for salmonella.
A real treat is the Shooting Star (Stjerneskud).
Buttered white bread (this is a special one) with steamed white plaice and fried breaded plaice topped with shrimp topped with (yes, topping on the topping) mayonnaisse, cucumber salad, lumpfish roe or caviar and a twist of lemon.
And many more.
You should have tried something else but the insta friendly food. Ex our Beef sandwich with brown gravy, "Shootingstar" (stjerneskud) or our national dish Fried pork belly with parsley sauce, white potatoes and pickled veggies.
Next time try to go visit Holbæk in denmark I have been there not long time ago there’s small cute old houses and much more :)
and btw I live in Denmark :)
sounds lovely, we would love to visit there. Next time for sure :-)
That smörebröd looks like something i want to taste
our national food is Stegt flæsk med persille sovs
fried pork belly i think it is, with a white parsley sauce and potatoes
Also, if you're picking Copenhagen first, then it's much more expensive, over there compared to the rest of the country. As a smaller country, we got a huuuge wage comparrison, from the East to the West coast. Those beers are easily 4.6€ to 7.3€ mainly on the Jutland part of the country :) .
Ohh i all most felt the rollercoaster ride, but ok...I tried it for the first time in 1977 and have tried it 400 times :-D
Oh you missed out on an Danish Hotdog with everything Inc Remoulade :)
We actually got one in our previous video in Copenhagen 😋
im pretty sure you bought smørrebrød from one of the most expensive places in Denmark. a piece of smørrebrød of that size is usually around 30-40 Dkk, and you can get cheaper versions with less garnish/toppings called "Håndmadder" for around 15-20 DKK (translated to hand foods; named this way cause the less toppings makes it more manageable to eat with your hands, though i would stil eat it with knife and fork)
You definetely get the right smørrebrød, frikadelle, is a stable in danish cusine. And it's just a meatball, but served on ryebread with the toppings, it's quite nice.
You won't find a dane that will reject a piece of smørrebrød.
14:24 guy with glasses looks like somebody forced him to visit tivoli :'D
😂
I've been to Denmark at least 10 times and never had anything bad
The next time you taste Danish smørrebrød, you must ask for a vet's night food/snack!! It is too delicious...
When in Tivoli just buy the unlimited pass if you plan on trying alot of rides. Your save money if you try more then 5 rides. (for adult that is).
Many bakeries are making onsdagssnegle on Wednesdays. They are extra large and sold at a (usually) good price. Many people like pastries in the weekend or leading up to weekend. So why not try to sell some snailbreads on Wednesdays. It's good business!
Would highly recommend the Hotdogs near the train station. but in general we have amazing hotdogs
Thanks for the recommendation 💖 the hot dogs are so good here
Greetings from Vesterbro! Next time you`re here, try these suggestions ; Kate`s Joint Blågårdsgade & Spise Loppen Christiania.
And Spunk Bar in Istedgade!🍻🇩🇰
Making these open sandwiches (smørrebrød) at home you would very rarely make them as fancy as you get them in restaurants (obviously). Ex. the one you got would most likely only have the meat and not much else. Maybe pickled red cabbage witch is also a very Danish thing.
trust me smørebrød is really not good warm or hot its ment to be cold KOLDT 😄but in denmark its actually very expensive most places bcs it takes alot of time putting it togheter with all the diffrent layers of stuff we put on + you 2 should really try croisant with chikensalad and asparges + try THE burger shack with there timian and parmasan fries
Am frome denmark❤
💖💖💖
the greens on top of the meatball sandwich isent coriander. its soft thyme and chives :)
Yes I think your right, we got that one wrong
Hi, Dane here.
"Kanelsnegl" translates into Cinnamon Slug 😉
Love this video CMA danmark
Thank you so much 💖💖💖
NO, A "Danish" don't exists in Denmark... It's called a "Wienerbrød" here.. And no, I don't know what the hell they call it in Wien..
the Kanelsnegl would most likely be called a cinnamon snail in english :] (kanel=cinnamon - snegl=snail)
Funny to see how other nationalities experience our capital. On your next visit - come to the west coast, and get a “ real “ danish experience with food , drinks and entertainment
52 for a croissant that is expensive! Nice video!
To be honest you should visit other cities such Aarhus (Should go see The old Town in Aarhus) really captures the past imo. and visit the City Aalborg, and Odense those are like 3 must visit cities in Denmark if you ask me c:
we would love to for sure, our mistake was only booking 3 days for our trip. We would love to explore other parts of Denmark and see other part of Danish culture and history. we will be back for sure....🙏
I would add Ribe to the list. Ribe is the oldest city in Denmark, and the prettiest city in Denmark.
tuborg classic you can also get i Uganda
Hi guys, im Danish, and that Snegl you got was the most chepest random u got... most common one. You really need a danish person to guide u. And then again a random, because wee all know food in Denmark!
Danish cuisine is world reknown.
Wow 🤩
Kanelsnegl translates to 'cinnamon snail', not snail bread. The swirl referring to the swirl on shell of a typical garden variety danish snail
I'm from Denmark ❤😊
hi 🤗 nice to meet you
It’s cress on top of the frikadelle smørrebrød not corriander 😄
If you come back, I'll gladly show you some of the authentic smokefilled, brawling real bodegas!
wow thanks so much :-) that would be really cool
It translates to cinnemon snail in english
Too bad noone told you that there is an area where the cherry trees are. Bispebjerg kirkegård(The cementary at Bispebjerg). When they start to blossom lots of people visit just to see them
Really nice video. Had you visited a real bodega. You would have had the beer for half price, instead of what you payed.
we would have loved to visit a real one for sure....:-)
I am from Danmark and am so glad that you like the food and i love your videos ❤❤ please respon to this cement LOVE❤ and i have subscribe

Good choice on the beer :)
