  • Your pop up is the most important part of any surf session, because without a good pop up, you are never going to get on to a wave. Use this progression from Huntington Beach Surf Coach Holly Knearem to build muscle memory and balance on land, so you can handle anything that comes at you when out on the water.

    Nicely done video & suggestions!! Also the idea of closing your eyes during popup practice is 👍🏻👍🏻 . This is great surf prep for beginners and for experienced surfers who want to work on their technique. I’m going to start doing a few session of these a week. I love my Indo Board for taking it to that next level! Every surfer should have one of these at home!! ✌🏼🏄🏻‍♀️

    First things first. You need to be able to do 10-20 push ups with perfect form, you have to have the basic strength to pop yourself up (tough for girls). Secondly you have to have enough hip flexibility to bring your front leg up under you in a pop up (really tough for guys).

    Thanks for this Video, been looking at ways to exercise on Indo board during lockdown, nailed the pop up one fist go buy my pop up in the ocean not great 🤔 I wouldn’t pop up with my feet parallel? I’m guessing this focuses on the strength element (which I have) but I think I have a bad habit technique. Pop my back knee down but I am up and riding the green waves and I’m relatively fast. Enjoying your challenges, thanks ☺️

  • @brianhawthorne8480
    @brianhawthorne8480 Před 2 lety

    So I see your pop ups consist of pushing up while your feet/toes push into the ground. Am I correct in saying that would only work on a longboard. Wouldn't a 6 foot board be too short for a 6 foot guy to have
    His feet on the back of the board when popping up?

  • @spinningbacksidekick
    @spinningbacksidekick Před 6 měsíci

    Do you alternate legs when training? Or just pop up the way you would when surfing (for me, regular stance)

  • @jameshallfishing3377

    Kind of weird to me but if I am having trouble popping up popping up on an indo board is gonna be that much harder plus your twisting your body. I don't get how it's gonna help if I can't even get up?

    • @WATERLOGGEDADVENTURES
      @WATERLOGGEDADVENTURES  Před 4 lety

      Hi James, it helps to work on the first part, the pop up without the indo board until you have that down. Then you can progress from there. If you start slowly with the basics, it makes the more difficult indo exercise a bit easier.

  • @markarend8226
    @markarend8226 Před 2 lety

    There is one very very important part of the pop up Nobody mentioned and that is the length of your arms,bcs when you got longer arms is easier to get your foot on front

  • @didymostruespeal
    @didymostruespeal Před 4 lety +1

    Might be able to sell some Indo boards doing that. But what I was hoping you were going to cover. Was popping up from your knees instead of your feet.like you will have to do if you're six foot and you're riding a 5-foot for surfboard. You have to pop up from your thighs or your knees 😉 anyway maybe that's something for your next video

  • @TheKabindas
    @TheKabindas Před 2 lety

    Sorry for what I'm about to say, but for beginners, I strongly advise against exercising with the indo board. Popup is a muscle memory movement and with your movement with the indo board, the feet will always end up in the wrong place.

  • @bbk4691
    @bbk4691 Před 2 lety +2

    The skill gap from first exercise to second is outrageous.

  • @mikecrook8434
    @mikecrook8434 Před 2 lety +1

    The only problem I see with using the Indo board is that your feet are pointed at the "nose" of the board at the end of the pop-up and not to one side of the board or the other (regular or goofy), which would give you optimum balance on a surfboard. I'd be concerned about creating a muscle memory that I'd have to eventually undo.

    • @yuridelcastillo220
      @yuridelcastillo220 Před rokem

      Your 100% correct! ! this is not the ideal framework or platform to build the muscle memory for your ideal pop-up stance . . The end result will be you developing a bad habit that you will have to deal with which will slow you down in catching your next wave. .🌊
