Last Arriva Bus running Route 176 to Penge.

- Doubledeckeranton boards the 'final Arriva 176 bus' departing Tottenham Court Road at 0034 on a cold wet Friday Night in London.
As the bus crosses Waterloo bridge, Anton takes in the 'sights and lights' of the City of London Skyline.
Anton informs the passenger's that they are on their final Penge bound bus operated by Arriva South before brand new Enviro Hybrid buses (from another London bus company) take over the route 20 minutes later!
Anton realises the passenger's have had a long week at work and are not responding in a jubilant mood with the good news he has shared!
Anton would like to thank all the Arriva bus drivers at Norwood garage for their many years of service on route 176 ...🚍👏😀👍☺👌...

You've got some courage Anton to ask a bus load of passengers about which company operates the route they are travelling on. Great view across the river looking towards St Pauls with all the buildings lit up. It was always a dream of mine to finish my bus driving career (which lasted 48 years) in London but I somehow don't think its going to happen unless a miracle happens!

Yes It would be great if you could ha e driven Londons buses at the end of your career. Maybe we can arrange something in the future as i know how well you looked after me and many other drivers in Huddersfield for all those years of service driving and in the union...!!!

Seems bonkers that Go Ahead are so anti social media...You would think they would be behind a driver sharing positive stories (gaining a new route is hardly something to hide from!!)

Honestly Anton, londoners are soooooo, miserable, as you get off the bus EVERYONE says thank you to the driver where I live ( in south England ) none of the driver complain about stress and it is a pleasure to be here, the air is so clean and people are happy

It's really unfortunate that these are going. I remember vaguely when these were nearly brand new, but the Birmingham ones.

This is quite cool, but the school buses serving my school in Gloucestershire are formed of two old London buses. They still have the tfl posters in them too. It's a shame that one of the buses have now been repainted since starting in September, with the other to likely to be repainted soon too :( All the decals were removed when they started, but they were still red with the white paint on the roof.
I went to Norwood Garage a few months back to pick up some lost property. Drivers couldn't be any more friendly. However, as much as the VLA's will be missed, I won't miss the roar of the engine as they go past my flat.
I went on one of the new EH's today. More modern, although I did like the seats on the VLA's.

I think I know why you couldn't film the 176 with it's new contract. I think you said before but is your company against filming on buses, or are drivers just not allowed to film on their particular buses from that particular garage?

i did 176 today it was ok but the lord mayors show was today so EH166 was running from trafalgar square
funny how all the passengers of the 267 are talking about the LT that has entered service, everyone is asking the driver why it is on the route.
I was a bus driver for 12 years up an till 2 years ago with go- Ahead ( camberwell ), on the 45's for 11 years sad to see them go across to Abellio, as for the 176 I live near Penge so I got on the 176 every day to go to and from work, all the 176 drivers will know me by face but not necessarily by name, it's going to be weird seeing the 176 in go-ahead livery but thanks for your service Arriva
HI Double Deacker Anton I saw you last night on the last 176 I started at around 15:30 I travelled on all the VLA's that was running it was sad to see the last one leave Tottenham Court Road empty to the garage for the last time

Yes I saw the 176 in elephant and Castle this morning and it was a go ahead bus. The 176 bus was old anyway it needed an up grade. The amount of noise it made was craze.
I rode 176 today, and the new buses are great!
I remember RM’s on that route.

The Volvo B7TL's are my favourites along with the Dennis Trident Alexander ALX400's that used to work the Route 94 until April 2016. Not sure if you know of that route but it was my regular when I was living in London.

I live in Dundee Scotland and back in the 70s we used to have buses with middle doors on them. I am part of a bus club called the taybus vintage verchel society and we have the buses that had the middle doors on them and we restore them and I could send you pictures of the buses we restore. If you would like to send pictures of them please let me know and I will send you pics. P.s the buses where called volvo ailsa.

the old 176 busses are used on 199 route and 136

IMW2006 Ware production's / ian ware / imw ......I. think they may be scrapped/ sent to other parts of the uk (for sale) or used by Arriva elsewhere!
They use a few on the route may be one or two 3 max, but the Arriva 417 are usually enviro buses or brand new hybrid Volvo buses Gemini.
AAO 786 they use the Alexander Dennis buses along with the 157
Ross Macaulay now they do. But before it used to be a mix.

Yes indeed and it will be getting new HVs aka Gemini 3 B5LHs.

Not always some routes gain existing vehicles. In this case is more to let you know what type of bus has been ordered.
