Good Morning TA. Thanks again for getting my Saturday up and going. Nice fish! It's surprising what you can catch and where you can catch it at times. Keep up the good work! Later.
Griff
New water with a new rod = Heaven 😍
I’ve had that rod since the kickstarter and I agree the shorter lengths are great
"this is a good first Tenkara Rod"
excellent, already threw money at the kickstarter to use this as a first rod... so that makes me glad to hear!
Thanks for the video and your opinion on the Mutant. Really appreciate the info on the handle. Sounds like the Mutant's handle is shaped a lot like the handle on the Dragontail Talon. I love the way the Mizuchi casts but it's a little too stiff for me. Your review makes me think the Mutant is exactly what I was looking for. I won't know until I get it, but my gut says the Mutant is going to be very popular with those fishing in the Appalachia mountains. Those zoom lengths are the ideal compromise for most of the trout water I've fished in VA, western NC, and northern GA.
Great, I'm glad it was helpful. Yeah, the handle feels great. It's the best of the Dragontail rods I've tried.
Beautiful fishes, beautiful river, beautiful weather.
I agree! Thanks for watching
Nice fish, thanks for another vicarious fishing trip. :-)
Thanks for watching!
I'm gonna use this with my TinyTenkara rod :D (that and my always-with-me-telescopic-spinner) Gonna be fishing every stream, creak and lake around here! Noooot that I wasn't already, haha.
Sorry you didn't find your drone - here's a tip for your next one. After losing and luckily finding mine a few times I bought a Zenlife luggage tag which works on bluetooth I think. If you know the general area and particularly if it is stuck in trees/bushes, it gets you within a few feet of the drone. Also painting a couple of fluorescent orange stripes on the arms makes it stand out from the foliage.
I'll look into that. Thanks!
I recently got in to tenkara, I bought the mizuchi zx340 I love the rod but the casting is harder in the tight areas. Anyway the rod is great it's hard to get used to the hook set when using a spinning rod. Thanks for reading and love your videos you inspired me to start TENKARA!
Yep, casting is definitely more difficult in tight areas with any tenkara rod. Keep at it! Things like setting the hook and landing the fish get easier, I promise.
Another great video and awesome catch of big fish in that small stream. Just got my brother to get his first Tenkara Rod catch this weekend. I typically use shooting line as a floating line in lakes... it's cheap, floats great, easy to cast and less of a hit than any Tenkara companies branded floating line. I am not a fan of level line, but don't fish streams too often. my brother and I both netted 6 each out of an Oregon lake (Clear Lake), all 10" or better, with largest at 14"... I use Tenkara USA Amago. I appreciate your videos and time with tips and reviews. Cheers.
Thanks!
Love watching your videos and buying your yarn..it helps a lot when just starting Tenkara fishing..also would be a big help if you would narrow down the name or close area of the streams and not just the state.. thank you sir
I don’t share creek names or locations, sorry
Great to spend another Saturday morning with ya! Great fish!
Thanks for watching!
Hey can you do us a favor and stop living an awesome life, lol. When I go places I usually want to bring someone along. Both your channels are making me realize maybe that isn't really me. Maybe you can let your mind be at peace when you only have yourself and the task at hand. Thanks!
I think that the rod being in the shorter positions is more than likely giving it a little more backbone. Having it collapsed is making the rod a little thicker closer to the base and I believe that it might be making it stiffer also. Just my guess
That certainly could be the case. Thanks for watching, Randy.
Nice catch! I noticed a bit of green forming on some of the rocks. Is that normal or is that possibly due to run off from agriculture?
It's just normal algae, as far as I can tell. There is no farming anywhere upstream of this creek. Thanks for watching.
I have a ten foot rod but a 12 foot line. And I feel like the extra length is causing my casts to be whipy and floppy if I don’t give it enough energy. Would there be a solution to this, or to buy a new line?
Make sure you're pausing long enough on the back cast so that the line has enough time to fully extend backwards. Vary the length of that pause and also vary the speed of of the back cast and forward cast to see what works. Casting a 12-foot line with a 10-foot rod is a little bit harder than casting a 10-foot line but shouldn't be crazy difficult.
I cant believe you caught a fish that size out of water only inches deep!
Crazy, huh? That's why I love fishing creeks like this. You never know what you'll catch next!
I noticed you don’t use arrows pointing where your casting or where your flies at .
If it’s a hassle to add the arrows never mind. Still you’re giving us awesome videos thanks again!
What a far out gig you have!!
I add arrows when I'm not in a hurry while editing (lol) and when it makes sense. Like when you can see the fish soon after the take. Thanks for watching.
I tried the utah killer bug or whatever it's called and did nothing. The fish said what is that? I should've tried the PA killer bug since I'm in PA? : )
I'm in Escalante UT and new to Tenkara. I also tried the Utah killer bug numerous times with no luck. But the simple black dry fly with reversed hackle works here on rainbow and brownies. Forgot it's name but it's just black thread on a #12 with black hackle. That being said, as a newbie I'm sure poor technique is partly my problem.
The Hazelton killer bug might work.
I've fished the Utah killer bug a fair amount but have fished the Utah killer kebari a lot more. It's a Utah killer bug with a soft hackle. I think either fly would work basically anywhere in the world on a small trout stream. I've never had a problem with them on the streams I fish.
Kinda thinking about picking this one up
Where did you get that cool sun shade dealio?
On eBay from Korea years ago
Where did you get the sun guard hood thingy?
What color yarn are you using for your Idaho killer kebari? I crush it down here in Utah with the pink Utah variety but intrigued about this new pattern you're using.
Ah, excellent question! It's a secret for now. But I plan on making fly tying videos in the next couple months, and I'll cover it then. Stay tuned 👍
Did you find your drone,?
Nope 😢 Ordered a new one last week.
Tristan, as you were going through the thick brush I wondered if you ever got into ticks and how you would mitigate that sort of problem?
I fish in the same areas as you do and find that I accumulate ticks - even after spraying repellent all over my pants legs and shoes. I assume that as I wade in the stream I wash off the repellent.
Well I'm from AR, but when I go creek fishing in grown over areas I wear clothes treated with permethrin, doesn't smell, doesn't wash off. I got it off Amazon, sawyer is the brand I think.
@@auronotcs5440 Thank you! That's a great idea. I'll try that! ^5
I actually don't have too many tick issues. I find a few on me a year but not more than that. Maybe I'm just not finding them 😬
Pecher sur ce petit ruisseau n'est pas facile... bravo pour la vidéo. Quelle est votre application d'insertion de texte ("surprise") sur votre video youtube ?
Bonne journée. Philippe de Fréjus (France)
Have to check the mutant rod out..
It's a fun rod!
Question - in Tenkara fishing is a length of fly line used or is it just monofilament ?
Scott Harriman most modern tenkara anglers use solid mono. The traditional lines used back in the day where braided horse hair. There is also tapered mono lines and modern braided lines.
👍
Looks liked brown trout
Definitely not brown trout. Thanks for watching.
Did you find your drone?
Sigh, nope. My wife and I went back up a couple days later and spent a couple hours looking for it, but we couldn't find it. I ordered a new one that should be here in a couple days. Oh well. Life goes on!
Gave you a couple shout outs in my most recent video. Check it out if you have time. Thanks again for another great video!
Nice fish on such a small stream!
Oooohhh, cane pole fishing
^ Say the people who have never fished with tenkara rods
tenkara isnt fly fishin, its cane pole fishin
Lol anyone who thinks this either has never fished with a tenkara rod or is an idiot. Thanks for watching.
You can do both and I do I'm a life lister and I use tenkara rods with tenago hook and I also have done light trout fly fishing with them nonetheless tenkaras are fun mine was like 12 bucks on Amazon.
