    Excellent Step-By-Step. I am replacing a clients' Lock Cylinder Housing on a 2003 Silverado today, which requires removal of air bag and steering wheel in order to access some fasteners just beneath. I wanted to refresh self on process.
    Most of my time is programming remotes and keys, dealing with electronics, and less anymore on mechanical. But a body shop whose mechanics are out at this time wanted me to do the ignition lock housing and the door lock, cut fresh keys by code and match everything up, as both have damage.
    One important note: Many of these vehicles, especially diesels have TWO batteries. This can come as a shock or worse, so I would add some text to this effect at the point where you disconnect the battery. Thanks, EXCELLENT video.

    Does anyone know if this steering wheel and air bag will work on a 98-04 S10? The 2001 Tahoe uses the the same wheel as an s10. The 2003 Tahoe has this style wheel, but the trim of the vehicle is the same. The ony thing I saw different for sure was the plug for the airbag in the wheel, but if you take the airbag with it, looks like it would work. The steering column is the same for both wheels. Will it work or does the wiring need to be changed. Their was a mint 03 wheel in the salvage yard. I took a leather blazer wheel in descent shape for my old crumby foam wheel in my s10 because its exactly the same, but I wanted that 03 Tahoe wheel.

    Question after re-installing the Clock Spring I pulled the orange plastic thing off as you demo. it broke off and a tiny piece is left in the part on the vehicle, everything works as it should, no more service airbag light, etc, thought it was wired how it came off, however, the part I took off had the same piece left in, so I went along with it. Just curious.

    Here's one I cannot find on the net any place. How to replace the tilt lever on a 2004 Chevy Express steering column ...I bought a 2004 express van. And the knucklehead owner before me looks like he used JB weld to put the pull lever handle on to the tilt lever. I bought all the parts to replace both plastic but this one got me stumped. Looks to me you have to disassemble the whole thing. to do it right.

    • @williambush2924
      @williambush2924 Před 5 lety +3

      Yes you can.. just go to an auto recycler and buy the wheel, clock spring, and complete wiring harness out of a truck that has it and swap it out with your current wheel, clock spring, and harness and you are good to go.. the radio controls will work without doing anything else. But if you want the driver info system to display, you will have to have your instrument cluster reflashed with a vin number from a truck that came with wheel controls from the factory.. there are videos on CZcams that tell you how to do that

    This video leaves a lot to be desired. Most notable is the failure to show which wires need to be disconnected and how to do it. Simply telling viewers that you need a special tool (not shown) and naming the connectors is useless. And rule #1 when dealing with automotive electronics is... If you don't know what it is and what it does; leave it alone. Ignoring this basic rule is a good way to fry something. I had to learn that lesson the hard way. The only people who are likely to watch this video are the ones who know little or nothing about performing such a repair. Viewers need to see each step and receive good instructions.
