  • Dr. Subhash Chandra Bose, or Netaji is known as one of the most prominent freedom fighters of our Country. But there was an infamous tussle between Netaji and Mahatma Gandhi. Even though both of them had the same goal of making India independent, their ways and ideologies were different. While Gandhi was seen to be on the Non - Violence side, Netaji was seen on the opposite side. But what was the exact problem? What problem did this difference cause within the Congress party? Did it affect the Independence Struggle? I talk about all these things in this video.

Instead of blaming teachers, blame the education system as a whole, why the textbooks are not updated since years? If the system is not amended frequently, how can you blame teachers to not teach outside of textbooks. If the system and examination system by boards in the country don't support practical learning, but rote learning and memorization, then the teachers are probably going to make you memorize so that you can score better, they only want good for you, except some bad teachers which are not most of them. Also if the textbooks are made in this detail especially history which is already filled with only dates, names, and events to memorize, this will add more syllabus only to have more burden on students to memorize this for exams. However I agree in subjects like science, more practical learning should be promoted, in English more speaking skills and grammar should be taught than Literature, and textbooks should be moderated frequently to be up to date, rather than teaching the students same thing which were taught 30-40 years ago.

Since you are a history teacher, I've got a few questions for you.
First of all let us be clear that the Governmental bodies decide what ideas are stocked on the shelves at schools through standardized curricula and standardized exams. Even charter schools and home schools are not immune from this control of ideas because students are still required to learn the information on standardized exams.
      Now, My questions are :
Why were we taught to hate our heritage and glorify the invaders ? (Delhi Sultanate, Mughal Empire etc)
Why is it called 'Indian Rebellion of 1857' and 'Sepoy Mutiny' instead of 'First War of Indian Independence'?
Why is it that Gandhi and Nehru were glorified and many other freedom fighters were ignored or was mentioned just as a side note(paragraph) with small pictures while Gandhi had a whole chapter to himself?
Why are so many places, streets, grounds, stadiums, awards, statues, Indian currency notes, are all associated with Gandhi-Nehru dynasty and completely ignoring other freedom fighters?
We have National holiday on OCT 2 and Children's day on Nov 14 , what about so many other freedom fighters?(why not a national holiday at least on 23rd March)
Why was our history distorted in our text books?
Our History text books just revolves around these topics(at least during 70's to 90's):
      1)Indus Valley Civilization
      2)Delhi Sultanate
      3)Mughal Sultanate
      4)Independence Movement
In addition to the above four topics, the Guptas and Mauryas are mentioned for one chapter each. Gonds and Ahoms are vaguely described in one chapter. Sikhs, Marathas and some South Indian kingdoms like Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas , Vijayanagara empire get a paragraph each.
