  • The Emergency Period during Indira Gandhi regime is often regarded as dark days of Indian Democracy. But what was the actual reason behind Indira Gandhi proclaiming the emergency of 1975? In this mini-documentary, I go in depth to explain the root causes and reasons behind it. Starting from 1969 and the infamous battle between the legislative and judiciary to pass the privy purse laws and the nationalisation of banks laws.

    Judiciary should definitely be more powerful because at once legislature can think of their own benefit but Judiciary is a voice of common people and to keep check whether the government is violating rights common people so Judiciary should take care of it

      No judiciary in India is full of nepotism...and that's why judicial reforms which is a very important is being always delayed.... There is more checks on legislation like press, people's protest, elections...but no checks on judiciary...so I don't think we should make judiciary more powerful than legislative...both must be equally important..

      I know right!
      The NCERT books are soo well developed keeping in mind the psychology of students of the that particular age...the unfortunate thing is that there are not teachers intrested enough in trying to take advantage of it... instead of only completing their syllabus.

    I would really appreciate if make a video on post emergency economic policies of PM Indra Gandhi. On online websites sometimes it get too complicated. It's easier to understand in your own language, rather than in any other language. You are doing a really commendable job by telling about these topic, most of the people don't know about them. Thanks for this video.

    Also, I hope you will make a vide on 1977 election, the period between 1977 to 1980 and the reasons why and how Indira came back to power in 1980. It will be interesting to know how the nation's sentiments changed considering the oppression of Emergency.

    India's iron lady:
    India should not forget important achievements of Indira Gandhi while also criticizing her;
    1. Green Revolution: Indira Gandhi's government spearheaded the Green Revolution, transforming India from a food-deficit nation to self-sufficiency in food production through technological advancements in agriculture.
    2. Liberation of Bangladesh: Under her leadership, India played a crucial role in supporting the independence movement of Bangladesh, leading to its liberation from Pakistan in 1971.
    3. Nationalization of Banks: Indira Gandhi nationalized major banks in India in 1969, aiming to expand banking services to rural areas and promote economic growth by increasing access to credit.

    It was very heartening to see a recapitulation of the 1975 emergency and the cruel and autocratic rule of Indira Gandhi. The reason that it was heartening was that we all know what happened as a result: Indira Gandhi was toppled, no matter for how long. If it could happen to her, this recap gives us hope that it can happen again today. Perhaps Modi's juggernaut can also be brought to a dead stop by us citizens. We now have the added advantage of being able to communicate freely with the entire world, something which citizens of that time did not have.
    So there is some hope we can recapture our freedom again !

    बिलकुल सही-सही विश्लेषण किया है आपने| मैं उन दिनों कॉलेज में था| राजनीतिक तौर पर मैं और मेरा परिवार काफी जागरूक रहा है| उन दिनों देश के जैसे हालात थे, मुझे इंदिराजी के कदम समाजवाद की ओर बढ़ते हुए लगे| इसलिए मैंने इंदिरा जी का समर्थक बन गया| वे चुनाव हारें या जीतें, इससे मुझे मतलब न था, वह आम आदमी के कल्याण के लिए काम कर रही थीं, इससे मुझे मतलब था| आपात्काल में भी मुझे कभी खौफ नहीं हुआ| इस दौरान फिल्में भी काफी अच्छी आयीं| मुझे लगा कि देश की तरक्की के लिए समाजवाद ही बेहतर विकल्प है| आज नरेन्द्र मोदी और भाजपा सरकार का विरोध इसलिए करता हूं कि वे सिर्फ कॉरपोरेट के लिए काम करते हैं| आम आदमी पर तरह-तरह से मार पड़ रही है| तिसपर पीएम की कुर्सी पर बैठकर वे सफेद झूठ और नफरत फैला रहे हैं|

    Legislative or Judiciary no one should be powerful over the others bcz of the presence of Constitution which determines the power and authority between the principal branches of a country.
    But there is another theory of Checks and Balance which actually keep balances between the circulation and practice and dependence on each other.
