  • I was very lucky to find this Maxitrak 1" Burrell traction engine. I tried all the usual places, then found a chap in the Republic of Ireland who had this one for sale. When I contacted him he told me that he was in no rush to part with it, but he then changed his mind, thank goodness. I had a long wait from Wednesday afternoon till the following Monday, it arrived no worse for it's journey.
    I have run it 6 times, the most recent pulling me a trailer and a gadget box, no problem providing its on the level or slightly down hill. The first run was a bit of a learning curve, how much water to put in the boiler, the correct working boiler pressure, keeping the cylinder drain cocks open all the time. I contacted Maxitrak who sent me a pdf of the original instruction booklet that had been sent out with the kit version, very useful indeed. I now know how to set up the steering chains correctly!
    What can I say about this TE, it's fantastic fun, at around 26lb in weight it can be carried and it can pull an adult for short runs. If you have any questions about the TE please email me.

    Love it. I had no idea the 1" models had that amount of power. Enjoy it sir, it looks brilliant.

      @Harry Robinson it's because steam engines have lots and lots of talk so even ones this size have a punch!

    I recently acquired a Markie Road Engine in the same scale. It was built to very exacting standards for display only, but I'm in the process of converting it from meths to gas with the intention of running it as it was meant to be run: On steam. It's nice to see that a model of this size can haul a decent load even if it is only on concrete/tarmac. However larger (way out of scale) pneumatic tyres fitted to the trailer might help to overcome rolling resistance on irregular ground. Only time and experimentation will say.

      Thanks for watching the video. I am so happy that I managed to get the Burrell, second hand, Maxitrak show them in their catalogue but never seem to have them in stock. That's a good idea about the tyres. Cheers Pete

      @@ghostontheline Have you checked eBay recently? There are several models of the 3/4" scale allegedly ready for dispatch.
      Getting the Markie ready for steaming is being delayed by the lack of a powered water pump. There isn't any practical way of fitting a mechanical one as it has two gears, so there's nowhere on the crank to fit a drive cog.
      I'm looking into fitting an electric one (rated @ over 130psi) from Microcosm. £94 inc. postage on eBay.
      Then there's the lack of a blow down valve to consider.
      Fun.
      Innit?

      Im afraid that your Markie will not pull that weight. Not a very powerful engine,I know I had one!!

    How do the cylinder and valves receive oil?

    • @ghostontheline
      @ghostontheline  Před 6 lety

      Hi John, thanks for your question and of course for watching the video. Steam is taken from the regulator and passes through the oil reservoir, it then runs through the boiler out of the base of the chimney and into the cylinder block. Regards Pete

    Does this model have injectors?

    • @ghostontheline
      @ghostontheline  Před 8 lety +1

      +Why Not? No injectors but it is fitted with a one way valve on the filler plug so can be filled while running with a top up bottle.The engine will run for up to 45 minutes, the boiler holds about 700ml of water.
