Gerrard had tons of these olympiakos in 2005, Istanbul final first goal, and this whole final... While there are other games I could name these were the biggest... Wasn't another big name player bigger then Gerrard in the mid 2000's that's why mourinho wanted him so bad even though he had lampard.

  • @stanmusz
    @stanmusz Před 5 lety +10

    This game among others shows why Gerrard is one of the greatest footballers ever, he may not have flair and skill moves like Messi, Ronaldo or (one of my favourites) Ronaldinho but man could he take a game by the scruff of the neck. If I could only choose one of those players (at their best) in a dream team, it would be Gerrard all day. I wish we had him in the current Liverpool team, could you imagine! Liverpool would be unstoppable. I think that's what Liverpool is missing right now to be honest, that box to box midfield general, kinda like a Pogba, who I don't think is quite as legendary as Gerrard yet but he could be and he has one a world cup to be fair. But if Gerrard played in better teams he would of won more. But he chose to take less money and play in a not great squad out of loyalty, and that's part of what makes him special, it's not just the player, it's the man too. Only players I see who could be that Gerrard like player for LFC is Pogba (never gonna happen) Sergej Milinković-Savić (Lazio) This guy could be special if Man U or Man City get this guy I'm not gonna be happy to say the least. I was never convinced by Keita, you can be short/small and still be a good midfielder but he just seems to get overpowered, A LOT, and he gives a lot of passes away, not great for a midfielder. Fabinho could be great, in a Kante, Fernandinho, Viera, R.Keane way but not Gerrard. I've just realised I've written a novel and probably no one is going to read it anyway, so I'm going to stop now. If you did read all of this, bloody hell, well done! I hope you got something from it and I haven't just been writing complete nonsense. Cheers!

      No doubt about his leadership but just prove that one man show team can't sustain if team want to progress consistently. In the early 2000s until pre klopp era, Liverpool is irrelevant without Gerrard. Rafa assembled great team in 08/09 season but still a one man show team due to over reliance to Gerrard. They came close to the title in 13/14 season under Brendan but again Gerrard prove his significance as he slipped and the whole team crumbled towards title run in. Current Liverpool team has more than one leader and that's the ingredient to be success and sustainable in modern football. We only see this in Liverpool and man city so far ahead from the rest.

      @@ngyonghuei6577 disagree.. liverpool lost the league in 2008-2009 because of too many draws just like this time round..the club was a mess behind the scenes due to Gillett and Hicks..we also had 3 other genuine world class players in Torres , Mascherano and Alonso.. it was never an over reliance on Gerrard but just that he pushed himself above and beyond the others..the slip was unfortunate and it was at a time where Liverpool found themselves in a position to win when they didn't deserve it and blew it..this team would probably have won the last champions league final and the league this year if the had a captain with the qualities of Gerrard..

    Gerrard the greatest player to play in the premiership by a mile and the best player I've seen since watching Liverpool since the late 1960's.. is Reina the only goalkeeper to save 3 penalties in a final?

    Watching it live from here in America, eleven years ago... Gerrard's stike is still one of the bestest moments of my sports spectating life. Right up there with Richard Sherman's tipped ball against the Forty-Niners in the NFC Championship game and Landon Donovan's goal against Algeria. Obviously, I'm a Seahawks, Liverpool, and American National Team fan...

      this is a fake commentary, i.e. it's not done live. U really think Peter Brackley wouldve sounded so nonplussed by gerrards last minute equalizer? They dont even mention that it was virtually the last kick of normal time.

      trying to find if Alan Hansen had more... Both players were full on defenders and rarely took a shot... interestingly, crazy horse scored over 30 own goals... Emlyn Hughes....captain of England.

    When I watched it last 2006 and West Ham made it 2-0 I thought game over for the Reds until Gerard says: I got you Mate.
    and the Konchesky 's cross to a Goal really blows my mind.

    Who did that defensive mistake that led to Gerrard's famous goal?
    A certain Argentine called Lionel Scaloni.
    17 years later, he would become the only international manager in South America to complete the treble- Copa America, Finalissma and the World Cup.
