OSRS Combat has been Rebalanced

- Now that we've settled into the skilling rebalance from the last few weeks, Jagex has added the other half of the update:
Project Rebalance: Combat
They've changed NPC defence for mage, range, and melee; including adding elemental weaknesses, classifying range defences, and adjusting longstanding melee defences. Magic damage has been redistributed away from the Occult Necklace, the Elder maul has a defence draining special attack, the Dragon Warhammer's drop rate is more common, and so much more!
This update is massive and brings so many changes to OSRS, and I hope this video breaks it down in an understandable way for you! Thanks for watching!

I've always thought it was weird you use fire spells for everything in osrs so I'm glad there's actual elemental weaknesses now
pog dog. Sorry I couldn't resist.
Finally the 4 nations can live together in harmony
Coming from rs3 it took me ages to stop trying to use spells depending from mob type
@@WildMudkip the 4 nations killed the ibans staff ;(
@Da5kone001 It used to be needed/used pretty much everywhere though. It's better to have more weapons/spells be useful rather than just "get this thing, then never use anything else again".
As an early iron the air weakness at barrows is sick af
And the fact that air spells have the same max hit as their fire equivalents. iban’s blast might not be as powerful at barrows anymore.
@@constantdemonics and the removal of the 1-tick delay when auto-casting. THAT'S the cool part imo.
you mean as a NOOB
Chaos gauntlets at barrows is gonna be so good now
@@nc8186everyone starts somewhere my guy, hope your not speaking without infernal and most GMs done.
I have a warhammer on my GIM, got it at around 4600 kc. I'm happy to see it reduced to 3k. Simply not necessary to be THAT huge of a grind. 3000 is still crazy rare for a monster like shamans
Not really
1/3k is getting home from work and casual killing it for a few hours for a week and getting like a free 10m gp and a great item for no crazy effort
@@nc8186 what is my man smoking
@@nc8186 ok, so if 1/3k is that easy, 1/5k is simple too since it’s only like doing it 1.6 times.
I got it 141 on my GIM. Glad it's reduced though!
I hope they also update how ancient spells scale, rn base smoke barrage hits 27 whilst ice barrage hits 30, they all should hit 30 when you hit 94 magic
Refreshes CZcams, WildMudkip Released a video 6 seconds ago. Completely satisfied with this course of action.
U didnt even watch it all
@@nc8186don’t believe he ever said he did mate
Fantastic! thorough coverage of the post - watched a few other videos today on the updates and was left wondering about certain points, you cleared everything up! I love the crossbow buffs, helps my refusal to get a bowfa copium that is definitely not a skill issue :D
Noob
Thank you mike, you really know the right words to make a guy feel good about his work. Also yeah what that guy said noob! hahahahaha
Roasted!
the removal of the autocast delay alone already does a lot to make magic equal to the other styles. I didnt even notice it on my first couple barrows kc, spells feel so good to use now.
Really enjoyed this vid, man! I'd already read it independently, but hearing you explain things is just a good time!
This is the only game I can think of where the community actually has a say, matters. How they've kept this masterpiece the same while also adding updates to keep it fresh is amazing. Thankgod for the old school team🙏🏻
Think harder
@@nc8186no you
17:57 I'd be super interested in learning about the early days of OSRS as someone who didn't play back then. The tidbits about the occult, BP nerf, and bowfa introduction were all really cool to learn about
we used to kill skeletons in varrock sewers for 10k xp/h and eat cooked rat which we cooked on a log we chopped with the axe and tinderbox in our inventories
hope this helps
Now THIS is RuneScape. Thanks Mudkip!
Its actually osrs 😅
@@nc8186
You are cringe.
These are easily my favorite videos when I want to learn about an update, especially the big ones. Please keep doing these! ❤
Over all I think all of these changes were really good for the game
Really good for your mangina maybe
They need to go further and rework the combat system and levelling and levelling unlocks. It's a good step in the right direction, but it's just a bandaid that ignores the real cause of why the game is so stagnant and there is so much dead content.
@@popnfreshz i think thats going to be more done through new content. Scurrius, perilous moons, and the new varlamore group boss thats coming all cater to mid game and introduce new mid game BiS gear (outclassed by end game, but better than what you would have used before the update)
i just wish we had more ballista options or the ballistas felt more useful after this! i think that would be a really cool way to explore heavy weakness in the future.
I like that it opens up new possibilities for rewards in the future
Yeah and plus is just feels satisfying to shoot a big javelin, but the poor DPS just makes it useless. Would defo like to see this
One thing i noticed with the spells is if you dont care about the magic weakness. Wind is now the best spell due to lowes rune cost. ( more so with staffs)
Yeah, I thought this as well. Now I'll be swapping my standard fire staff for a battle staff. I can get more mg damage out of the same inv space reqs this way. UIM life lol.
While wind is now the best for price, I can finally burn through my extraordinarily large earth rune stack finally without worrying about DMG loss!!!
I was waiting on my Mudkip update video! Let’s go!
I've been enjoying the news/update coverages. Thank you kip!
You're the man Kip! Again, thankyou for these videos. I'm very busy with life but still love to stay updated with the game and these videos are honestly the best out there! Thankyou
Thanks for the kind words, appreciate ya still watching!
The toa monkey room update goes crazy now
For real, think the shamans had like 16 hp or something when I did one
I wonder if they will update speed CA's accordingly, you can zoom through this room now
The only part of the update i really cared for ngl
I'm glad you like making these kinds of videos because I like watching them. I'll watch every single one just like all of your other videos.
Always appreciated!
pre-harm staff, zammy flames with charge and sotd actually outhits fire surge with tome
The best part of this update is the removal of the DELAY FROM AUTO CASTING THANK YOU GOD ASH
Seriously so nice
Thanks for giving us this video! Very well done!
Your point about the bowfa is why I haven't played in almost a year. I went dry on it and I know that grind still awaits me when I come back.
I'll check out your stream after work!
so how does corp spec work now with elder compared to dwh. you still spec 3 times? and less arclights now?
Thanks once again Kip, love these kind of video's. Also want to take this opportunity to say that I really enjoyed last GIM video where you were raiding and joking around with famwell and friends. It's the less serious stuff that does it for me, while still watching high lvl content.
I didn’t know much before this video about the rebalance, but this honestly got me hyped. It all seems to make sense and I honestly think this will be really healthy for the game long term
Anyone got any clue what the atlatl weight is for range?
I would assume heavy since it is not a thrown weapon but it does use darts which would seem to point towards it potentially being something in the middle of ballistas and blowpipe.
Would be curious to see if this changes any methods for people with less cash if it fell into the average ammo range.
Do the hitsplat changes affect things like poison dynamite?
This could made them a lot more consistent if so.
Adjusting drop rates doesn't just affect ironmen. If they make content more profitable by adjusting the drop rates, more people will do it which makes previously dead content more relevant.
Are you talking about nightmare bc that shit is still gonna be dead content
@@nc8186 More about the Lizardmen Shamans because that's what he had talked about, but honestly, just in general. People grind a few bosses or slayer tasks that are the most profitable, then ignore the rest unless they're an ironman or working on the collection log.
Great explanatory vid Kip! Thanks
Ty for watching!
As an Iron who was just looking at Zulrah. Suddenly having +5% magic Str, Tome of Fire, AND the fire weakness. I'm SO EXCITED FOR ZULRAH!!!!
If you haven't heard yet, flames of zamorak + charge work here currently. That means with 0% magic dmg increase your base max hit at zulrah would be 45. Cheers!
This is a list of changes that makes me genuinely excited for the game. It's been a few years since I played, but I might pop back in to try out these changes :)
Zulrah with fire wave and a tome of fire on a mid-level iron feels AMAZING compared to before as someone who's been doing mage-only zulrah this whole time
How is next after the defense reduced??
I’ll say it on every one of these videos: please keep doing them. They’re beyond helpful.
The hesitant and careful intro on the announcement is warranted; OSRS community are so vehemently resolute in their opposition to change.
How does this work with yanille’s boss?
For the most part we're on the same brain wave. I like this change and it seems like a good update
The changes to magic are amazing. The lower tier sets getting damage bonus is something I've wanted for so long.
Thanks for reading the news post for me. 0% chance I'd do it on my own. 👍
A video going through the bosses with new possible metas for killing them with mage would be nice, for example the zammy flames at zulrah, ice/water spells at cerb/zammy boss/mole
i like that the elemental weaknesses gives me more reasons to use magic setups in places you normally wouldn't, i like this update a lot.
"everyone wants what's best for the game, we just have different opinions on what that is"
I feel like that's probably the best kind of mindset to have when discussing these changes :)
Thank you for the overview, I was waiting for your video to have your insight
If I want to be lazy and not figure out things for myself - is there a particular pereson/discord to watch for what are particularly interesting changes for Iron Man? I'm one of those that doesn't have a bowfa yet, and just recently finally got a blowpipe. So I'm curious about alternatives. The Sunlight Crossbow was really nice to grind out Zulrah with
So, is the Trident considered a water type spell? Or just some sort of generic magic type outside of elementals? I assume it will still be viable at Barrows, no reason it wouldn't. But Now I wonder if it would be better to just roll in with wind wave/surge.
I wonder what the comparison between the death rune Air spell and Iban blast is now at Barrows.
I was just running Barrows - 24 max hit with my gear. It's a no brainer for me to give up one max hit to gain an inventory slot and not have to ever run back to recharge the staff
Also the weakness is extra accuracy, which is nice for maging Ahrim and Karil
Air is better
17:13 it should be written as
Totally agree with you on your points about the Ranged Rebalancing.
Very sad to see the ancient godsword get nerfed and its niche shrunk even more. Really liked it over SGS for slayer but probably won’t be the case anymore.
one of the few channels that I like the vid as soon as I click it
i gotta max soon before this is a entirely different game
hunter's sunlight crossbow is a good stepping stone to bowfa, i've been using it with the lower tier ammo and its better than msb i and rc (unless you can use ruby bolt e's) in most places
completely agree on your analysis of the bowfa
Hey hows it going :(
My GIM team has done almost 2000 CG and we have only seen 1 bofa. its devastating.
I've never been convinced about the bowfa. I just use ACB/ZCB and blowpipe.
Honestly, this was all a bit of a non issue for my main. But my HCIM is still in its infancy, so I can’t wait to be able to utilise these early game changes when it finally comes to combat. It’s gonna be a nice fresh experience.
Hey kip, im trying to click my mouse with a button on my keyboard but i cant remember how to do it. I know its in one of your leagues vids but i dont really want to comb through each one to find it, PLZ HELP
Turn on mouse keys in windows, use num lock to toggle it on, and the numpad 5 or + can be used to left click. / and * can toggle it to right click
@@WildMudkip thank you so much!
Is mudkip weak to air?
I think for WGS rewards, the ranged weapon should be a blowpipe or dart launching weapon of some sort. Now we have these ranged def changes I think it would be good to have another option for darts rather than just the blowpipe. We already have plenty of bow options and a crossbow is an easy enough heavy ranged option.
Great video, thanks for explaing it all. Also i got my DWH at 3 kc, so ye. Change it to whatever i dont care :D
Tyvm, and that's sick!
23:00 what bout bandos door?
I can't find an official post however people have told me that jagex will change to make elder maul work for chests in cox. I believe some jagex mods were in streamer's chat saying this.
Coooool
Good morning mudkip
Got my dwh right under 3k kc. Got it a couple weeks before this change, started grinding harder when the change was announced. Bragging rights secured :)
I agree, but I'm hoping they fix the other ranging items as opposed to nerfing the bowfa and replacing it with another item..which is definitely their go to..
ooo a 30 min mudkip video im happy
air weakness for early game doing 8 damage with 1 mind rune only is so nice
You’re good people for this, Ty
Can anyone confirm if the Hunters Sunlight Crossbow is considered a heavy weapon since its ammunition is bolts? It's already a straight upgrade from the msb(i), and would benefit further from all of the heavy defense changes made :0
If it uses bolts it’s heavy.
Even bone bolts are heavy
thank you for making this
The interesting thing is that unlike god spells, standard spells can be buffed by wielding their respective tome (for example, tome of fire with fire wave / surge will give it 10% bonus damage). This ultimately leads to 60% more magic damage rather than 55% that you would have with something like Flames of Zamorak + Charge with Elidinis' Ward (f).
I like Pokemon (maybe unintentional) reference for Metallic Dragons elemental weakness, making them weaker to Earth (ground). In Pokemon, Steel Dragons would be Steel/Dragon Type, and Steel is weak to Ground
I've played this game off and on for a very long time. When they announced this update, I was worried it was step 1 towards an EoC type combat. I'm very pleased to say this is actually a step in the right direction, and the tweaks are somehow both huge, yet somehow minimal enough to not break anything. If anything, it seems this update allows for a little more versatility in all stages of pvm, while still allowing the strong endgame gear to out-dps anything else, as they should. I've not said this often, but good job Jagex.
keep the changes coming jaggy
7:50 it sounds like youre implying the one tick delay on autocast has only been removed for standard spellbook spells? I don't think thats quite right
Ty brother !!
So on the same update they made the elder maul better than dwh therefor reducing demand for dwh aswell as making droprate better so supply is higher..
So supply is up and demand is low? Price is gonna drop a lot no?
I’d argue not as much as you think. Not everyone has 175m sitting around for a fairly small upgrade over the DWH, most players will continue using DWH until they have enough gp
Solid video to a great update! Now if only I could get that enhanced to drop 😂
Got my first of 2 on my iron earlier 😁
@@scottfrancis995 got 2 pets within 3 kc. approaching 600 now, no enhanced.
These changes are great. Now they need to do way more fun mid level bosses that have these various weaknesses. That way there is more fun content for casual players that have mid stats
Great explanation!
Appreciate it!
Is blowpipe considered light then since it shoot darts?
Yes.
@@JoshPillault thank you ❤️
hate the changes tbh but thanks for breaking it down spencie
thank you for reading it for me :3
would tome of fire be better than elid ward for zulrah?
never mind they nerfed tomes lmao
I think tome of fire is still best in slot shield if you're using fire spells
Holy shit this makes magic even more busted in the early levels. I imagine the early game Iron meta will be air staff and mind runes. Extremely cheap with good damage against early quest bosses
So if an 'enchanted bow that shoots light arrows' is introduced, is that used for a light weakeness monster or a medium? This is so confusing
Bows are already medium afaik, that's why they're clarifying that the arrows would count as light in that scenario
I was an idiot and didn't read the blog and sold my Zaryte Crossbow when it was at 399m. Now it's sitting at 419m. Lost 20 mil overnight.
thank you i appreciate
Light defence being lower than the other 2 in any case makes no sense.
9:10 such a good up
FINALLY! My maul and ballistae have a use, LFG!
I just wish they would leave a couple of worlds that are the same as the first day of osrs
Disregarding the Ancient Godsword's delayed spec damage again is CRIMINAL
I wonder if mudkip is wild.
No.
Max hit with occult will actually be 4.55% lower. 105/110=0.955
i love all your videos
EoC taught me the only reason i play OSRS is to avoid action bars from other MMO's.
using fire strike on pyrefiends was werid, this makes sense.
