- It is finally here! The combat project rebalance for mage weapons, the voidwaker and so much more. Today we finally received the proposed changes for these items and the reasoning behind them.
Today we are going to be looking at all the nerfs and buffs to see what jagex has been cooking up. How much is the occult necklace getting nerfed and where is that power going? How much is the voidwaker getting nerfed.
Theres also a ton of other fundamental changes to the game that we are going to cover today as well.

Not buffing Ahrims magic damage is a bit disappointing
I think it fits with the style of all the other barrows gear. Barrows are all known mostly as a tank set anyway. In terms of accessibility it also is on the easier side to obtain than all the other buffed pieces of magic gear. Like if we're comparing mindlessly running barrows versus chambers of xerics or going into deep wildy to take a chance at the larran's chest, it makes sense to me why it was left unchanged. It was already good at what it was meant to do.
Totally makes sense for it's defense stats compared to other robe sets though
Arhims has always been overpowered. It's by far the most expensive barrows set and it's never been close

Ahrims not getting a buff completely makes sense. Now there's actually a worthwhile difference between Ahrims (~4/5m from one of the easiest bosses in the game) and Virtus (~80/90m from some of the more difficult bosses in the game). You just want everything to be cheap and easy.
The magic rebalance makes sense but I'm pretty sure this makes a lot of setups with anything less than ancestral worse and more expensive, it might balance out with Augury but that means you now have to manage that prayer just to keep up with where we were before.
Yeah feels like a wierd change. But I guess its more rewarding to actually grind and get pieces of gear, because before getting a single 2% wasnt that much of an upgrade, especially since occult was a powercreep, now every gear part actually matters for dps increase. Wont do anything do damage specifically, but just overall rewards getting high-end gear upgrades and keepin its prices stable- if u get what I mean.
@@Omgiamsotriggered I like the redistribution of strength, I just don't like the fact that this means almost every magic setup is now weaker and/or less convenient than before. You now need to manage augury and multiple extra pieces of equipment which themselves will offer less defence than what you were likely wearing before so you'll probably take more damage too and after all that you'll be roughly where you were before the change.
There's also still the main problem with magic, it's significantly less cost effective than anything else so it is only used when other options are unusable or when magic offers utility like barraging. So now magic will be worse for nearly everyone while still being the last resort, the setups will probably be more expensive and the only setups that will be stronger will be the max ones.
@@LordRaxyn Right, seems like such a hassle at this point, but them doing this leaves a huge gap in mage gear and offers them opportunity to actually introduce new mage gear with more nieche purposes, especially mid-game tier gear. Dunno what I personally think about it, I was the first one to bash blowpipe change but turned out to be phenomenal for the game, same thing might happen here.
It just makes magic even less relevant in the overall game, a skill barely used for bossing outside of extremely high level set ups like the shadow. And now they also gatekept decent magic damage behind a level 77 prayer that you also have to pay for.

Jagex has lost it. Every single mid-late game player has trident + occult + ahrims. Now there are no real updates until you can full on send cox for ALL THE UPGRADES
They wanted to decrease the mid-end game gap but instead theyve increased it x 10000
No real upgrades....? DT2 bosses....? Then just do a bit of COX for augury (which is hella common). Calm down.

Wont change anything about barrows tho? They are still a strong choice for either pvp or pve, and dagon-hai/infinity take way longer to obtain (at least on an ironman) than barrows.

this is why the elemental weakness change is so important for mid lvl players.
Literally not a single person is using their brain lol elemental weakness will likely more than make up the difference of these beers for mid game players

Frankly, I hate how much they're nerfing the occult amulet. I would have been in favor of a slight nerf, but I think the bigger issue with the magic system was how useless the rest of the gear was, but now they're taking its bonus' and only applying it to super expensive gear which screws over us midlevel players who already had a rough time justifying combat magic with its expense.
I think they should nerf occult regardless of what they do to other gear. The buff is way too massive for an 800k amulet, like they stated in the blog.

when you think about it the abby whip is also very over powered for its price and requirements. its stats should be halved and redistributed between the scythe and torva..... a terrible blow for irons and casual players generally

I’m not even a PvPer tbh but I genuinely feel like the nerf to the ancient godsword was uncalled for lol when the voidwaker, claws and even AGS can 1 tick your max hp, I feel like having more ways to heal in a fight is optimal if they’re just going to add more weapons that can effortlessly stack you out, despite you combo eating perfectly. Idk though, I mainly used the ancient godsword at solo bandos and I love it lol so I’m glad they didn’t change it for pvm I guess.
I know it doesn’t seem all that strong but paired with the lightbearer its really broken in a deepwild outlast fight

Slayer drops are cheap for non-ironman. The game balance isn't ideal sometimes when trying to cater to both players

I’m in favor of most of the big changes recently and upcoming(except some of this magic dmg stuff) but yeah the more the game changes I wonder how long till an OSRS Classic comes out

Crazy that a 50% buff to nightmare still isn't enough to make it worth doing. Still takes 3x as long to hit the orb rate vs a shadow (for solo 500s at least), for items that are less consequential
I mean you also gotta take into account the difficulty of camping solo 500’d efficiently versus doing Nightmare

would be nice if we could get a magic damage boost to void robes so they arent completely useless now. it isnt just ahrims thats getting shafted with this rebalance. they have always left magic behind on the damage front and made high level gear a bit underwhelming. you could make the extra 6% from occult be locked behind an untradeable quest drop that is like dt2 for occult

I just bought an occult a few days ago because it's the only gear I can afford. The pieces that the stats were redistributed to are WAY out of my price range.
This "fix" is a kick in the balls to players that aren't maxed out on mage and nothing else.
Didnt you guys see other mage armor is also getting buffed? You can use virtus or infinity before you get ancestral, so stop the drama

I think the lower tier buffs are great for the game. The dragon warhammer is also awesome since I was just about to start that grind. I think that nerf for the late game sets might mean they are about to add something into the reward space

I kinda was hoping they'd buff the normal drops a bit too, even if it's mostly supplies. It's one of the grindiest bosses in the game
Main thing they need for bosses that are hard to reach is easy to obtain teleports. Example after your first kill you can tele there. Then the drop rate isn’t as much of an issue. We also need a mid game consumable melee weapon like the blowpipe, trident.
I'm very mixed on this because it kinda screws with a lot of stuff. For instance in gwd you bring an occult, tormented bracelet, and something to autocast blood barrage. It's 4 total inv slots with the rune pouch included. That nerf will actually hurt massively because it means the ttk on the bodyguards is going to go up.
I overall like the idea of splitting the bonus but it is so engrained into gear setups now that it's gonna hurt.
Guess I'll grind as much gwd as I can before the update is polled.

With the augury buff you'd be losing 2% magic damage, it's a nerf but not that big. The kill window for the guards is quite generous anyway so I doubt it'll be an issue.

@@jeandeasd maybe the early and mid-game gear is being nerfed but early and mid-game magic overall is receiving a huge buff through the elemental weaknesses and autocast delay removal
The amount of people forgetting that elemental magics are getting an insane buff, up to 100% weaknesses on some NPC’s is just being glossed over here. I do agree it’s weird that pricing is the measure that jagex seems to take issue with in terms of the occult. Why not just lower the drop rate? I’m glad it does give things like infinity and augury a use though.
People are considering how this impacts PvP though too and there seems to be some bias on what builds get buffed or nerfed from this.

i agree with the magic being spread around to other things especially early/mid game items. I think the elder maul update is a good start but its still a mega rare same as tbow/sythe/shadow/kodai which all have either special effects/damage bonus/best in slot for that style. its a basically a slightly better warhammer is all. Also only +17 better accuracy that hammer/d defender and +12 better than hammer/avernic and if you can never miss a hit what's the point compared to the hammer. Not sure what they could add but i feel like it needs what they propose+something else if its gonna be a mega rare item. It will be a spec only weapon like hammer is now plus this game is all about dps so buffing stats might not make sense because no one will use it after they spec but maybe they can think of some type of an effect.

Can someone explain to me the minimum damage thing? I don't understand what they mean when you will at least hit a one if you pass the accuracy check, if you pass it you will always hit something no?

1 def pures getting the short end of the stick, as non of the armors buffs will apply to pures. I thought they’d buff maybe the seers ring or wizard boots for at least the mid game

@@CitriReg its one reason we have all these pvp item nerfs such as g-maul etc. These pures have 1 defense then complain the game isnt suited for them when they choose to have 1 defense.

They are actually likely not going to nerf the voidwaker - per the Jmod comments on reddit. You stated it as if they absolutely are but this is just proposed changes.
I don’t see the problem with the occult tbf. Everyone can afford it, also players with ancestral. So they won’t really notice the difference in dps would they? So why make the mid game suffer from the nerf. And why is Ahrims not getting a slight buff?
basically jagex runing the game for the top 1-5 percent of players, how many players have 420 magic ancestral set.
Most of these magic rebalances are pretty good. Although, it would have been nice to see stuff like the Eternal Boots, Malediction Ward, etc. be adjusted as well. Particularly in Defence, and Damage. Same with the Ranged items as well. I’ve always believed that the Eternals/Pegasians & Malediction/Odium should be IDENTICAL in stats, but just have opposite DAMAGE bonuses for their respective combat styles. That’s how I personally would have designed them. Otherwise, I like where the game is headed. - Machinist_2
I like the magic changes, I think the nerf to occult may be a little strong, 5/6% would be slightly better or spreading some extra power out to other midgame items would be nice! Everything else is pretty spot on! Love how Jagex keeps everything fresh!

The fact Shadow + ancestral is almost absolutely useless without ice ancient sceptre and elidinis ward to catch the freeze if you're soloing anything shows you dps has never been the issue. At the moment magic is nothing more than: caught freeze? OP. No freeze go to lumby. It made way more sense to add sleight defensive bonuses to the armors and lowering magic damage across the board to counter freeze being the unbalanced factor that makes or break the whole combat style.
Of course the D Warhammer was the item i invested the most in. Bought 6 at 40-42m a while back when I heard they were adding minimum successful hit of 1.

Tbf a weapon which only drops from raids should be better than a dragon weapon which drops from a farmable npc, unlucky on the bad investment.
@@lfcmike12 Hate that argument. It's a 1/5000. It's always been a rare, strong weapon. The fact is has the 'dragon' title is irrelevant.
@@sylvariatzaka Can just make the same argument but packaged differently if you like. A formerly 60 attack requirement, currently 60 strength requirement should not be BIS over a 75 attack weapon. Like it or not there's logic there.

So looking at the changes to magic in general that they are planning in adding the nerf to the occult isnt that bad due to the buff to magic via elemental weaknesses and even less of an impact with tome of fire and searing pages and sunfire runes. Kinda hope we get tomes of air and earth added in to the game at this point.
I am thinking a lot if people need to actually look at everything as a whole instead of looking at one thing that by all means was waaay to good for its price. Im not a fan of nerfing at all -6% is a massive drop and if nothing else was changing i would actually be ticked but thats not whats happening so many changes are happening to combat that the nerf ends up being insignificant and brings it inline for the pricepoint for mains. (Rip irons)
