    I absolutely love that aquascape and the choice of fish. I've never fancied juwel Rios for aquascapes but that tank looks awesome in white and has completely changed my mind. Absolutely stunning

      thankyou so much...I used to have a black Rio and wasn't so keen but after i decorated, decided to get it in white (was the best i could afford to be honest) once i removed internal filter housing and painted the back panel black i was well impressed how well it looked. the new push open cabinets are solid and nice looking cabinets too👍

    I'm doing my water changes with siphon and bucket since I only have 2 20litre tanks. But I recently bought a juwel rio 180, definitely going to invest in a pump and pipe. Good advice 👍

    Great vid and boss tank. I can't believe how simple using the bucket with the pump is, all these years i have pumping the water out and then doing 20+ refill buckets haha. Will be downsizing my tank soon and looking at the rio 240 as a possibility. My current 5ft is really a bit too big for the space.

    Looking very neat is the set up mate👍how you apply the drainage of water is similar to how I do my saltwater change from my sump😀 the difference is I have to mix the salt to the R/O the night before. Then I use two 25litre containers. But all good I can see👍hope your Anubis’s are doing ok 👌 all the best mate. Keep um coming. PS your looking well👍

    What beautiful crystal clear water you have in that tank. Please could you tell me what pump you used? I have to premix water in a big tub and that pump would really save me some effort.

    Or just put the pump in the aquarium and you empty the tank faster and with no dirty hose sucking. :D The other end is connected via adapter to the faucet when you refill the tank. Prime goes directly to the aquarium.

      If I was doing just a water change this was the way I'd do it but I prefer to siphon with hose to disturb and get rid of as much detritus as possible for a deeper clean.

      Virtually no sunlight, 7 hour photoperiod low intensity lighting, tricky topic algae with no straight forward answer, will definitely do a video on tackling algae at some point.

      Thank you. I used 16mm hosing but if I remember rightly the pump has a universal fitting to fit a range of size hosing.

      Just prefer to siphon out normally so I don't have to change pump from end to end.

      @@TheCambridgeCarper Fine to use pump to empty and fill. Sometimes it is difficult to siphon if there isn't enough height difference between tank and sink/bath/drain etc.

    Wasting water going down the sink. And declorinated water at that. I do the same method but pump the water out the tank and have a tap adaptor so the water runs straight back into the tank. Just add your prime directly into the tank then

      Thanks John, appreciate the tip and you're right didn't want to be wasting water,, I fill slower now so the bucket doesn't overflow. I use tank water to water my house plants and outside pot plants🌱🌿💚

    Did you put all the prime you needed to refill tank in bucket at start, or did you add more as you went along?

      I put more than enough prime in at start (cap and half) Prime directions say 1 capful for each 200l of new water. i removed and replaced approximately 150 litres.

    Hey, by any chance do you have any way for me to get the filter out I have a canister in been running for 2 weeks, it’s time to take the original filter out but with all the suction cups on each side I can’t even get one off

      Sharp kitchen knife down the side to cut away silicone blobs, usually around 6. Should come straight off. Razor blade will take off the remaing bits once housing is removed👍

      Hey...I used to pump from my bath which is roughly the same distance. Obviously can't be 100% sure but I think it would be ok.

      I had an adaptor but kept denting the tap and wouldn't connect any other way. Thankyou, long gone this tank but I do miss it.

      Jbl one from a cristalprofi filter, you can get them on ebay or check jbl website. Oase ones are adjustable to👍

    Just purchased a Rio 240 and starting out... I thought you only took 25% on water change weekly? I think you said 60% what is best? Also when do you get the gravel clean? As I say just starting out - do you have a video on initial set up please?

      In my experience larger water changes work in help maintaing water quality. It is common practice among alot of planted aquarium hobbiests to change at least 50% of the water on a weekly basis. This is just my preference and I've had great results from this.

    Auto-generated captions were great on this 😂 Similar to how I do it but I add dechlorinator into the tank and attach the hose straight to the sink. I’ve been using the outside tap to do about 20% water changes too (trying to get corys spawning) and there’s been no ill effects.
    I need to get an intake tube though - it looks much safer than wedging the hose under the hood

    Hi Geordie, how are you.
    Quick question, using the exact same set up, filter intake, hose (9 meters) and I am unable to siphon, a few splurges of water come out but then stops almost immediately. No kinks / blockages.
    Is it because the of the 9 meter hose (required to reach the sink)?
    Any tips?

      Hi Stewart, not sure why, the only time i've had problems is if there was trapped air, i usually just give it a big suck and off it goes, make sure hosing is empty of all water and air bubbles before you siphon out water, pump does all the work straight away when refilling.

      @@GEORDIESCAPER Just got my tank, so I filled it (to make sure no leaks) no problems with the pump but I just can't get the tank to empty now , water is travelling all the way to the sink but stops at floor level, massive sucks from there only a empties a few slurps. Tried sucking harder, lifting / moving the hose with no joy.

      @@stewartkeil4314 if you're trying to empty the tank once it gets to around 80% empty the intake won't provide enough to syphon you will have to use hosing end only, as soon as the water level is near the grill on the intake pipe it stops siphoning. I think this is what you mean other than that I'm stumped because I've never had any issues draining this way. Hope you get sorted mate.

    Whats the substrate you use? I use fine white sand and m wanting to change to something heavier so doest come through syphon or move about much cos of circulation pumps

      Ok great, ive got the 180 l version and think the lights are too bright ive got the reflectors too but still think it bright, do you recommend a light? Ive got a few amazon sword plants and anubias in the tank, got told they are fine just into sand substrate, but most of them are turning brown and fish are eating them 😀 plz help any other plant that is better and can live into sand substrate.       Disturb the gravel/sand and siphon out the debris. I generally use a thin layer of sand, it's easy to siphon out and replace with new sand if need be.

      Hi Dave,to be honest I have never tested. I know that my area the water is fairly soft. Must measure sometime.

      @@GEORDIESCAPER Tetras seem to be doing well so must be fairly soft as you say. I'm moving to the North East next year & will be setting a tank up again after a lapse of 30 odd years.... Tetras are the ones I'd like to keep.

    Why not just put the prime in the fish tank when you start to refill as then you won’t lose any because if your bucket spills then you are losing prime down the sink

      Thankyou, I've always used it for houseplants but i use as much as I can for pots outside too (don't have a garden unfortunately).

    That's a bit stupid putting decloranator into the bucket and then watching it spill over the side and down the drain. Try putting it directly into the tank.

      Stupid is a bit harsh but you are right, I do add to aquarium now as I have a thermo valve fitted now and add the water directly👍
