    There is no gap between the top and corners of the tank, you have to remove the 2 red pieces from both sides of the light ramp. It is just there for transport purposes

    Bubble wrap is great for using when filling up a tank. It floats and spreads across the surface so the water doesn't hit the substrate.

  • @KurisuBonsai
    @KurisuBonsai Před 3 lety +3

    I'm running a Rio 180 and really don't understand the comments about the filter being bad. The foams have a massive surface area (even bigger in this tank) and also plenty of space to add a box of nitrax media if you want more biological area. Pipes outside the tank are not for everyone!
    A few tricks I've learnt over the years, stack two of the top floss layers and just peel one off for a swift clean. The standard filter grids do not stop shrimp but you can get a cover. You can also temporarily put a small square of kitchen roll partially over the top inlet to make a strong skimming effect that works in a few minutes.
    Great tanks imo and the fish look happy!

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Chris for the comments and the tips.
      I set it up with the sponges that came with it and as you say there was plenty of space for the bio-media I ripped out of the canister I had been using before I switched the tanks over. I've been running it for just over two weeks now. Early days but so far I can't fault it.
      I'm definitely going to tinker with the media placement so I'll probably look at your suggestion of the top floss as one of the options.

    Dear Daniel:
    I’m very impressed with your patience in producing this video. I’m anxious to share my, next, tank set-up; but, the water is still cloudy and I’m probably about two months away from adding animals to the tank.
    You’ve done a super-terrific job of setting up this, fine aquarium. The cube-aquaria below look amazing, as well.
    Thank you for sharing the process with us.
    All my best,
    Sincerely,

      Thank you very much E.J.
      It is as you say difficult when you're excited to share a video but I generally have a few I'm working on at a time and I am very very busy because I am involved in so many things outside of the fish hobby that it's normally harder for me to find time to finish them off than be frustrated about having to wait to be honest.
      You could always put your video out on the stage it is at so far and an update later on rather than have to delay if it is annoying you hey.
      Kind regards bud.

      I’m disappointed that I went with the Macintosh Mini with less memory than the more expensive one. Had I spent another $200 I could keep my videos longer. There may be a way to put a video on iCloud and upload it to CZcams from there, but I don’t know the process.
      Thank you for your understanding and continued correspondence.

    Also remove the tanks in the stand, its only designed to take the weight of the tank on top. Condensation from small tanks will cause top panel to warp and break.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před 3 lety

      I'm not too worried about this one. The lids on the tanks are pretty tight fitting so there is very little condensation. Add to that the back of these sections are open so there's loads of air flow and opportunity for any moisture to escape and I think I'm good.
      I've also placed support under the base so I'm not too worried about the extra weight of the tanks but I will keep a good eye on both of these issues and react if needed. Thanks very much for your recommendations.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před 3 lety

      I've never done the dry start method mate but yeah I've seen lots of people get good results with it especially when starting with plants that have never been submerged since they don't have to adjust till they're doing well and you fill the tank with water.
      I belive as well as straying them most people cover the tank with clingfilm or something so moisture is retained inside for the duration of the method.
      I couldn't have done it with this tank if I wanted to since I had nowhere to keep the bigger fish whilst doing it. I basically bought a big plastic garden bin and put them in there with an air bubbler and a heater whilst we exchanged the tanks over but wouldn't have been okay for more than a few hours.

      Thank you very much for your kind comments Julie.
      I'm still tinkering with the filter to see how I like it best. I don't think it's horrible as standard but I definitely feel like improvements can be made. I'm sure I'll make a video or two when I have some solid thoughts on it.
      I didn't cycle the filter as such. I took loads of media from an established filter in order to have it running right away. There was plenty of room for the sponges that came with it plus the large amount of bio media I moved from the other filter.
      I don't keep Goldfish but I would say that's plenty of room for three Moors. I would say the filter can handle that stocking too. I'd suggest testing the water conditions regularly with a test kit, that should let you know if there are issues at any point.
      Enjoy your 240. Hope your fish do too.

    Hi mate. I've just bought the 350 version. Made a mistake and plants I've ordered are coming a couple of days before the tank. Can you advise on how I should keep them alive?
    I've also got 9L of soil and 55kg of sand for the tank - does this seem the right amount?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah you should be good with the sand and soil you got.
      For the plants it depends on how they arrive. If they're tissue cultures or come in air tight sealed packet like the Tropica plants, if they look healthy enough I'd just leave them sitting somewhere that gets a wee bit of light till the tank comes. They can survive in those packets for a decent amount of time on the in the shop etc so they're generally okay for a couple of days.
      If it's plants that are just bagged up what I would do is drop them in a large bucket with dechlorinated water and a wee tiny bit of liquid fertiliser if you have any. If you're leaving them in a warm room where they'll get a bit of natural light through the day they should be fine for a couple of days.
      That's how I'd go about it. Hope it helps.
      Enjoy your new tank when it comes.
