    It's so hard to remove the filter from the juwel rio, you need extra careful in doing so. Great job my friend you did it.

    I share your pain with this. I normally use a fishing line to remove Juwel filters. Cut a long piece, push the line behind on both sides and work my way down pulling from one side to the other. Comes off quite easily. Fishing line is plastic hence will remove the potential to scratch your glass.

      That is such a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing your tip. I bet a lot of people will find that useful.

    Mate, wanna thank you for the great videos, you were one of the main inspirations for us to get this tank. after seeing you remove the filter i straight way did the same thing! thankfully i got to it about two hours they delivered and set it up so the silicon wasn't as set and a wee bit easier to remove. it makes the tank look bigger!! again, thank you and keep up the great work

      Ah wow. Thank you ever so much for your message. For me it's all about enjoying the hobby and sharing it in the hope my videos can assist others to enjoy it too. So feedback like that feels great. Enjoy your new tank! Sure you have many good times ahead with it.

    i did the opposite on a 6ft tank i replaced an fx6 with 2 xl juwel filters = more filter capacity than fluval , much lower wattage per hr than fluval , higher flow than fluval but spread out between 2 units i'm very happy with the results

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před rokem +2

      Sounds pretty ace. Yeah I would never have changed it out had it not been for Fluval sending me the FX to test. I must say I do consider it an upgrade (although maybe not compared to two Bioflows) and I don't appreciate having more space in the tank.

      I've had my Rio125 and Vision 260 for about 20 years and both filters have now come off by themselves, you just need to wait.

    Dear Daniel:
    I do prefer to free up as much space, for my plants and animals as possible, by using hang-on-the-back filters. However, I also like a nice hard-scape. I’ve switched from driftwood, to rock, in all but two, of my tanks. I find that driftwood encourages algae. With rock, I can simply scrub the algae off or switch out the hardscape, allowing algae-infested rock to remain dry, for a long time.
    Thank you for sharing this, super-terrific upgrade, on your, amazing tank. I look forward to seeing how you perfect that corner, of the aquarium.
    All my best,
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

  • @MikeZak101
    @MikeZak101 Před rokem +6

    even easier if you just pull it off slowly from the top, the silicon doesn't stick that well to the filter so slowly pulling it starting from the top, looking at the tank from the front, pull the front top of the filter towards the left and that first bit of silicon will let go, pull a bit more and the second piece next to it will also let go, after that just keep going to the left slowly and all the rear and bottom pieces will easily let go, still need to clean up the silicon off of the glass but no need to force tools in between the glass and the filter

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před rokem +1

      Should have tried that in the first place hey. 🙄
      After seeing how easily the last few came away feel like you could be entirely right. Unfortunately I'm passed the point of being able to test it out but hopefully others about to remove their filters will read your comment and attempt that first. Thanks for commenting with this.

      @@DanielKeepingFish yeah i've always cut them out before, had about 5 juwel tanks in the past, just got a new 350 and thought id try pulling it and it was super easy only taking about 30 seconds to get out, just wondering if you had the red clips still on the light bar, saw them still on one of your vids, they pull off to and the whole lid will sit nice and flush after, all the best

    Hi Daniel. I'm currently using a Hygger double sponge filter. This filter has two containers at the bottom. I'd like to fill them with Activated carbon, to reduce bad odors + keep water clearer. I've seen Activated carbon balls (plastic casing). Are these OK to be added into a double sponge filter???

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před rokem

      Yeah totally. Just be aware activated carbon only lasts so long. It's all relative; the more impurities the carbon absorbs the quicker it becomes ineffective. Generally if we're changing it out once per month we should be about good.

    What was the decision that made you do this?
    I am pulling the out the only hair i have left with my Juwel tank, i have hundreds of floating particles and its not clearing even with all the tricks etc, starting to think the filer isnt good enough, its really deflated my enthusiasm.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před rokem +1

      I only changed it out because Fluval sent me the FX to try out. Otherwise I would never have swapped the Juwel filter out, I was happy with how it works.
      I have been super mad busy past couple of weeks but if I get a chance I'll send you a video of how I had mine set up.

    How did you plumb in your canister. Would the dig outs be wide enough for an fx6 inlet outlet?

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před 8 měsíci +1

      No the pipes didn't fit. I ended up cutting slots in the lid to accommodate them. I'll pop the link for the video at the bottom of this comment but if that doesn't work go to my full list and it was nine videos ago.

      Juwel doesn't seem to want you to use anything but theirs. I have noticed this. I also noticed that Fluval, on the other hand, made Aquasky lighting that is compatible with the Juwel T5 lighting system. What pain having to dig the box out to find the outlet tubes don't fit. Shame on you 'Juwel' 😕

    People are clearly not using this filter correctly if they feel the need to remove it. It's a very efficient filter if cleaned and maintained regularly.

    • @DanielKeepingFish
      @DanielKeepingFish  Před rokem

      Yeah I liked it. I only swapped it out as Fluval sent me the FX to try out. I wouldn't have swapped it out otherwise. That said although the Juwel filter was fine the Fluval is a definite upgrade.

      The filter is not suitable with shrimp. So you are clearly using the incorrect filter if you would have a shrimp tank. Don't be so judgy.
