My Kayaking journey this past year. Shout out to my hommies for always pushing me forward. I'm in love with this sport. Song: destroyer of worlds - Aaron Hibell
You were scared and underprepared. I've been there. In the few first strokes you had: no speed, no angle (and no lean) - which are the basics and foundations. I'm glad that you survived, bettered yourself and did not quit. Although there is still vast room for improvement. Wish you ATB. Cheers
Twice I came out of my boat and was under water, dark, and I asked my self is this how it ends. Twice was enough. I realized that you get older your mind remembers how and what you are suppose to do, however your ageing body does not respond the same as when you were young. and again, there is always that rapid that acts different, so I relegated myself to running lower class water. So far, so good.
Wow, most carnage vids have positive comments. I think few really know what the sound and feel is like on water like that. I get squirrelly on new water and I’ve been around a lot longer. Glad you stuck with it
Looks like the paddle stroke on the upstream side is what caused you to flip. Anyone who paddles Class V+ water has had this happen to them. Great that you were able to roll the boat with a blown skirt. That was impressive. Glad you make it out OK. Lost a buddy years ago running the GF.
@@jcreeker5581 I chatted with him just before that trip through the forum. Never really knew him on a personal level but I was always interacting with him online and felt like I lost a friend when he passed....way too soon. It really shook me up and I realized then that paddling class 5 was not without consequences. I went on to paddle the Gauley a few years after his death. Never will forget him. Weird how much impact a person can make on you without ever meeting them in person.
The true power of the watre scares me. I fell out in a class III rapid while rafting. I've always underestimated watre up until that experience. I was nothing and nobody in the current. Got sucked down and trashed around.
I saw someone go over the spout once upside down in their boat and they were completely unscathed. Heard a story of another guy swimming the spout once and broke his back I think. Bad situation but I don't think you would have died. If you would have swam paddling the center lines, then yeah near death for sure. Kinda weird to frame the whole video as a triumph over death. That's not what paddling the falls should be about.
Love the video and the tempo. I will confess, I ran fish ladder once, and i was so scared - like for real i nearly crapped my pants - that i have never gone back, nor tried to do great falls since.
You got a good hip snap and a bunch of strength if you were able to get a boat that big back upright in those rapids. Glad it went ok for you, dont listen to the haters. They know they have had some close calls themselves they just cant admit it
WOW, Jaron. Some of these comments really let you have it. I can see their point, but have also watched you grow throughout your entire paddling career and know you're heading in the right direction. Yeah, running GF that early on was a bit of an over stretch of your skill level at that time, but you lived to tell the tale, no one was hurt or worse, and a valuable lesson or 3 were the take away. Whitewater kayaking at the level we (you know who I mean) choose to do it at is all about calculated risk which can be one of the hardest equations to calculate. Never leave out any factors, big or small, be humble, and you'll most often come up with the right answer. Love the composure of the flick and rack'n up some views. Nice! And, btw- Thanks for allowing me to be apart of your whitewater learning and skill building. You've always been one that I look forward to sharing river time with and know you trust what I have to offer out there. And thanks for the quick cameo appearance at 2:08 leadin' ya thru Crack 'n the Rock! Be safe, have fun, and keep Rip'N!!!
Was that an ammo? That could be the problem 😂 Glad you’re ok! And you did the work to send it!!! It’s an amazing sport, and we all gotta look out for each other! Great job!!!
Bruh, everyone who paddle seriously since at least a few years also almost died in their kayak.... but nobody make drama story out of it. Its not cool.. it never will be .
I'm sorry my friend but this level of whitewater is beyond your ability and your paddle stroke in moving water needs a lot more development. Be encouraged and get to it.
@epwlod777 watch the first minute of the video a few times, his buddy took 2 solid, full strokes to run that rapid. The guy right in front of him took a few more but seemed under control. Our boy here braced or paddled nonstop, none of which accomplished anything, and even stern swept into the current. The same thing happens throughout the video. Seems to be a bit more calm towards the end.
I agree. Go back to class 2 and catch some tight eddies and progress up slowly. He is slapping the water with his paddle instead of grabbing it and getting full smooth strokes that actually do something.
You should seriously consider your skill and who you are padding with. You are clearly padding way above your skill level and you are putting many lives in danger. You need to take a step back and practice the basics. Right now you are doing class 3 moves on a class 5 river. You should practice class 5 mover on class 3 water.
@@weemissilei have watched the whole video through a couple times. Just by the way he is paddling still at the end it is easy to see that he has lots of room for improvement on his form. I dont mean this in a way of putt his down, but in a way of concern for his and his fellow paddlers safety.
Cickbait title 👎 Devil may care attitude to risking your life (and the safety of others) on a stretch you're very clearly not ready for👎 Toxic ego driven narrative and 'death smiles at us all' quote. 👎 You didn't have this near miss because of technical kayaking errors. You had this near miss because of poor decision making. It would have been nice if your story had shown some humility and self reflection in between, then I could have got behind it. As it was your point seems to be 'roll the dice and get lucky, then do some training so you can roll the dice again'. I've lost friends on the river and I just found this whole thing pretty distasteful. Sorry bud, enjoy paddling.

Well-edited video. Good return to Great Falls.

Not long enough...

I'm a beginner and a long way off from the great falls but what about his stroke is poor? What should he be doing better?
