    The lack of progress in Russian offensives in 2024 will be 'frustrating' for Putin ahead of the Nato summit as Ukraine pushes for more Western weapons and assurances, Sean Bell tells Frontline on #timesradio

    Kaiser Putin got himself stuck in a situation he knows he can't win but won't admit it. He'd prefer to lose in slow motion to keep himself in power to put off the inevitable a little bit longer. The problem when you're keeping the truth from the public so long is that when they find out the truth, they tend to explode with anger. The German people had been told by their leaders they were winning the war. The fight was tougher than anticipated but their sacrifice was not in vain. On November 8-9 1918 the German people went to bed still believing they were winning the war and woke up learning the Kaiser had just abdicated and fled to Holland and they needed to immediately seek surrender terms because the Allies had been broken through the frontlines and the army was in retreat. The result was the German Revolution which was more of a civil war fighting between the opposing political ideologies of their neighbors.
    How much longer this facade of military accomplishment will remain intact in Russia nobody can say for sure but it surely can't last forever. State media manipulation loses it's effectiveness over time as people catch on they're not being told the truth. They seek alternative sources of information to verify the credibility of stated claims because it goes against human nature to not want to know more. In Germany during WW2 it was a capital crime to listen to foreign broadcasts but people took the risk because they knew the full truth was being withheld from them and listening to foreign broadcasts was the only practical means of finding that information.

      @killingmasheen Před 12 dny

      @@briansimon8969 You wouldn't have seen the west releasing intelligence in real time if it was luring Putin into Ukraine. Why would they risk compromising their sources when empty words would have been sufficient? If the west wanted to orchestrate a war with Russia they wouldn't have done it in Europe, they could have caused problems in the Caucuses or in the far-east somewhere and gotten roughly the same results. Historically European wars rarely ever stay contained to Europe and with the risk of nuclear weapons being part of the equation, a plan involving Ukraine would never have gotten off the drawing board. Say what you want about the west but they're not known for being much risk takers. If they were bold enough to make as gigantic a leap as instigating a war in Europe, the trap would have been sprung on Putin a long time ago.

    YES! Ukraine's membership in NATO is NOT the day after the war ends. Ukraine needs to meet the NATO standard to be offered membership. We can't just say, "Ukraine needs defending so they need to be in NATO". Some of the changes needed can not even take place until after the war and de-occupation.
    NATO's only job is defending NATO members.
    The defense of Ukraine and the security of Ukraine is not NATO's obligation.
    But all of NATO's members fully function as autonomous countries and have other pacts and agreements that have nothing to do with NATO.
    It is all of these countries from around the globe, both NATO and non-NATO countries who must become defenders of not only Ukraine but other countries that are experiencing the terrorist aggression of Russia. These security guarantees should not be based on NATO membership.
