- Join me on a super windy day while at work up my 65m (213ft) tall tower crane located on a building site in Brentford East London
Yes I know that most of my videos so far on the channel have been about extreme weather conditions but it’s a part of the job, this was a very unexpected windy day
On the weather charts it was forecast for wind gusts of upto 40mph however in parts of south England we had gusts of upto 90mph and 74mph was recorded on our site and it was pretty scary at points lol
In these cases we sit up the cranes and monitor the wind to see if it dies down so we can carry on, not on this day, the wind conditions got worse throughout the day making us climb down and go home early…….happy days
The purpose of the video is for educational and entertainment purposes only and not to be copied by anyone else
Footage was filmed in 1080p 60fps using an iPhone 11 Pro
End title music was supplied by Nick Hutson Music

How you manage to climb down in those winds is incredible, considering no safety gear!!

Wow thanks I’d love to visit Canada one day
Ya on the telly again Andy, from a great height. Great content as always. I think you will be more successful now as 1) not many people are doing this. 2) you have alot of experience 3) if I was younger I would have gone and done a course. It looks fun.
Big thumbs up. Wish you all the success.
Fingers crossed!
firstly i hope your dog's ok . windy lol you wouldn't get me up there for all the tea in China lol.but got to admit stunning views keep the video's coming your doing a great job

I live near High Wycombe
Great Crane Crazy video as always Andy. I may not be into the construction industry but your videos are interesting
Thanks 👍
@@cranecrazy you’re welcome
The video of you coming down would have been awesome. and the sign dancing around was more instructive of the wind than anything. Intense stuff. Stay safe, mate.
Next time!
Nice 😊
Didn't realise it was such a small channel, quality of videos is great for 2k so i just assumed you had a few hundred thousand- it's interesting stuff
Only started the channel a couple of months ago lol
Hope Tilly is ok great vlogs
Yeah she is all good now thank you
Hope Tilly is feeling better 🤗
Much better thanks
My new favourite channel. Have you got your shoes off ?
Oh thanks and yes i take my boots off in the cab
Good to see anotther of your crane vlogs Andy when working in windy conditions , also you might want to correct your video description to Brentford is a suburban town in West London and not East London mate ! 👍
Cheers mate
I love these videos Andy. Keep up the great work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hope your dog will be ok 😢
That shorter crane was proper bouncing 😮
Thanks !! Yeah our dog is much better now thanks
This is an amazing channel you have nerves of steel 😊one really silly question where is your toilet 😅
Wee in a bottle or come down if I need a poop
Great channel Andy, only came across the channel today, very interesting videos. You have probably be asked this many times before, but what do you do when up there if you need the toilet in a hurry? 😄 I use to live near Brentford 40 years ago nice to see how it looks now.
Oh thanks man !! I just have to come down if I really need to go
Would be great to see you working ie Timelapse great channel
All to come
How high is each tower section ? Thanks for another interesting video.. Keep them coming.
They are normally around 4meters long
Interesting stuff.
We have a load of falcon tower cranes near where I live live in Oxford putting up some student accommodation for Oxford Brookes university
Yeah I did a Saturday shift there a couple of weeks ago
5 towers going on there, big site
You should do vlog the next time you do a at the Oxford Brookes accommodation the development you can literally see my house from the big crane
You own 2 channels! I didknt know about you’re second Chanel until I watched you’re chessington world of jamungi vlog
Yep 2 channels !! This one was just a project to see how it would go
Ice one CC 👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Brentford ❤👍👍👍👍👍
When you use your radio the fella on the ground sounds like Gerald off clarksons farm 😂😂😂😂😂
Haha 😂
hope tilly is better xx
Yes thanks she is much better now
these are funny
My first view of your channel, great, subscribed. Kinda surprised that the manufacturers of these cranes don't consider that the operator is gonna need the loo and also the operator could quite easily be a female. What would she have to do?
There is cranes with some sort of a toilet up them it’s just the design and cost of the cab, our cranes are manufactured in Spain by Jaso and in Spain they don’t have a cab as they are remote controlled on the ground
Hope Tilly is feeling better 😢
She is fine now thank you so much
What's the rescue plan Andy? I know the Dock cranes are all getting retro fitted with a davit over the side! Can't imagine what it would be with you guys helivac maybe ??
A sling out of the chair and thrown over the side and lowered down
Funny you said the star flyer scares you but then you sit up there all day in all weathers.
Yep lol
You would like putting one up on the beach bro .
Missing the crane vids the site must be progressing fast since we last saw an episode
I thought you were going to say that you wing the pee bottles out of the window! LOL Seeing that sway like that has made my mind up for me .... I'm having my feet nailed to the ground next week!
Always wondered... when the cranes aren't working, are they locked in position or do they move with the wind like a weather vane. It seems to make sense that they move to minimise wind resistance
They are in free slew and move with the wind direction
Hi, friend, can I have a question on you please? Do crane operators comply with the smoking ban in the crane cabin? When you go to another crane, aren't the cabins smoky? I see you have air conditioning in your cabin. If someone smoked in the cabin, it would be impossible to clean it. Second question : Can you lift something to yourself with your crane? For example, can you lift a heavy bag to your cabin with your hook? It's possible to touch your hook from your cabin, platform or ladder? Last question. If you switch off your crane, switch off diesel generator, is red light on your crane still lit? (over night) There is other power source for it? Please do not answer if the questions are uncomfortable for you and I thank you for your time. ;-)
free slew? as in it does it automaticly with the motors tracking wind direction, or just freely goes where the wind takes it?
No you have to physically turn the slew brakes off which are on top of the slew motors however some cranes have a free slew button in the cab
So many different questions to ask
Fire away
Alright mate as a first time watcher, what’s holding the crane on the floor down, daft question but can it blow over?
It’s bolted onto a massive concrete base which is pilled into the ground
@@cranecrazy ah yeah still some weight to hold tho that
Are you allowed to work along the crane arm and stuff or is it just up the ladder and to the cab ?
No we can’t do jib/boom walks as we are not supplied with harnesses plus the jib gets inspected every 6 weeks during the cranes service
Hi from New Zealand loving your channel my wife is asking if there are any women Crain operators around and if so how do they go to the toilet cheers
Hi there !! Yes there’s a few women operators and they probably use a bucket or come down lol I’ve no idea
Hi Andy, I'm currently having a career crisis, basically bored of what I do and need a change, I've always looked at cranes and thought I'd love to do that as a job, I am set for a payout for voluntary redundancy and I have looked into crane driver training with citb, can you offer me any advise though, out of curiosity I looked into recruitment for crane jobs and everyone I came across all want so many years experience? How do you get experience when starting out? I don't want to put myself though all the expense of the training if I can't get a job at the end of it, bit of a real catch 22. Also what hours do you work typically? Thanks
Hi mate missing your crane video,s hope you are doing ok !🤔🤔
Hello mate. I’m just about to do either a pedestrian tower or tower crane course. I’m in two minds what to do. I’m a slinger but no experience in the actual cranes. What would you recommend mate. Is it going to be impossible to find work? Many thanks mate all the best
Loads of crane work in the UK at the moment so don’t worry, I’d obviously say do towers cranes as it’s ace
@@cranecrazy thanks for the reply mate! I booked both. Going up to ritchies end of this month!
Bearing in mind how tricky it would be ,to get an operator down, if they became unwell!!! Do you have to have a medical????
Yes I had a medical just the other day
the main issue that's making my hands sweat, is the tiny footprint those cranes are standing on. i see nothing spreading the load out.
obv it's fine but unnerving
Yes they do sit in a very small footprint but I bet the concrete foundation probably weighs about 50ton
@@cranecrazy they hardly ever go down. and all you mad crane lads are top safe climbers. i know it's 'only' a ladder but you wouldn't get me up there for nowt lad! great videos
Get some GoPro camera on the outside an you doing some lifting would be great ...
Yeah I’ve got some attachments
Are more videos coming?? 🤞🏻
When there is say 3 cranes on a site near each other is there a device on all cranes so they won’t hit each other or is it just human intervention????
There is an anti collision system in place to stop the cranes getting close to each other
Balls
How did you get into crane driving
Did a 10 day training course
Big respect mate, I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than do that for a living. 🤣
Haha
Hi Andy ,Any More Videos Coming Mate !
Not at the moment, waiting on some nice weather so I can do a walk around the crane
And what you getting what you getting on the radio , are we good for shutters😂😂
Yeah and concrete is on the way lol
is it true you got more chance of getting hit by lightning that a crane falling doesn't it bother you being up there
Is there a certain wind speed that would make you climb down?
Yeah anything over 60mph
Hi mate im currently a blue cpcs telehandler driver been in the game a good while now and looking for a bit of a change
Im just about to book my 10 course for the tower crane
The only thing that is homding me back is actually getting work with going back to a red card its costing roughly 3k for the course and just want to no is it worth going for it?
And will i get work with no experience
Ive worked with cranes before and understand how a construction site works
Thanks
Sean
From Glasgow
Book my 10 day course##
Apologies mate
How does such effect pay? U get paid so many hours regardless or ?
Can’t discuss my pay but I get 50hrs a week guarantee
Andy I've not seen much content from crane crazy recently.... Is all ok with it? , as you appeared to be doing quite well in terms of views then nothing which seems rather strange?! Momentum is lost as easily as gained. 🐛🐛👍
Yeah just been super busy and went from 2 breaks a day to 1 a day also not that much to film !! I will film something new soon
hi andy how are you my friend
Can the crane get hit by lightening?
How do you manage in a heatwave
I don’t lol !! Most new cranes have air conditioning units in them now
Nope!!!
Have you ever cracked one out in the cab?
Erm no lol 😂 that’s just wrong
@@cranecrazy Got to do something on those windy days
Iv gotta ask , and maybe youve already been asked or maybe people to scared to ask, but what the hell do you do if ya need a number two ?
He probably shits in a bucket
Shit in a bucket
Is it hard to become a tower crane operator and is it expensive
It can be hard as most sites want experienced operators and to do the course is around £3.000
My friend ?
There’s a saez tower crane at the back of my house it’s about 30-40 meters high there is a 1.5 meter basket hanging to the left of the crane at the control room height any idea what this is for. It looks like a piece of that staging you see at concerts it’s square 1.5 meters tall hanging off the side of the crane. Anyone know what it could be
Maybe a jacking platform
@@cranecrazy I’m uploading a video now to let you see it
And is the demand for tower crane drivers?
Blamey it is super windy wasn't it
It really was
andy where are the videos pls update!!!
What's happened ????
What’s the rates of pay
I couldn't think of nothing worse than being stuck up there in high winds 😮
It can be fun and scary at the same time
@@cranecrazy Fun!! 😂😂 fair play to ya pal really enjoying the channel 👍
I'd Poo Myself
When is the next vid dude?
I've got to ask. I know u can pee in a bottle if u need to but what happens if u get caught short and your busting for a crap?
Have to climb down, thankfully it doesn’t happen often
Where are the new videos ?
Do you ever get scared ?
Yeah sometimes
What do you do if you need a poo lol ??
Climb down
Do you ever just shit in a bucket
what happened to this channel
Sorry been really busy with work, been really tired and running my other channel !! Promise a new video is coming soon
Kamonn mate, whens the next vid????😂😂
