This isn't their home world, because in Prometheus (spoiler ahead) we find out that this world is a testing planet for the engineers(an alien race)who not only created us millions of years earlier on this very planet but after they saw what we do, decided to create thousands of xenomorphs to send back to Earth to wipe us out, but the humans seen in the movie stopped that just in time. Then one of the surviving xenomorph queens on this planet eventually laid her own eggs which led to this. So Alien Covenant is basically a follow up from Prometheus.
Rule number one of alien, if the goddamn egg is opening you don't lean over it to investigate!!!

Actually, I believe Alien and Aliens have happened during the events of the movie. In the "Last Supper" Video it gives a nod to xenos being called bugs. (or that its a cameo, so I could be wrong)

not a big fan of the movie but i LOVE the line "you hear that? nothing, no Birds, no animals, nothing!" it's says sooo much and yet so Little. Just small details like no animal noises in the background set the mood so much and it immediatly gives the viewer something to Think about throughout the movie.

the xenomorphs are way too overpowered. I like the theory that they were engineered by an intelligent alien race in the distant past specifically to kill and destroy foreign alien life, that would at least explain why they are so overpowered even when operating in outside home turf

I LOVE these movies, I've never cared about what the critics say about this franchise, I love the lore, I love the design, I love Geiger, I love it all. I just wish they would make something very, very, VERY dark, hypnotic, evil, deep, & very violent, something that highlights Geiger's work and something he would be proud of.

@@pokix3775 so when they thought everything was good after the conflict with the species (that was made by David) , they thought they escaped and David was dead . So they went back to hybernation stage to go to the specific planet as it was 8 years away . Daniel was the last person to go for hybernation and just right before she went to sleep , she found out that the robot was David , not walter . As she knew the ship contain 4000 people and embrios of many animals including human embrios . So it was terrorizing for Daniels (for viewers also) after knowing that David will experiment with all the people and will make specis after specis with the embrios mixing with the alien genes . So bacically he will make monsters and possibly he can go back to earth with the ship and destroy earth . Daniel just right before she went back to hybernation (as she was the last person to go back to sleep) , she found out . She screams and tries to come out from the machine but obviously it was too late and she went back to sleep .
For me the last scene was really really disturbing and depressing as hell .

Am i the only person that actually loved this movie? Prometheus was a very good movie, a slow burner... this was balls to the walls stuff when it started... I really enjoyed it

I feel bad for the crew they look poorly trained like regular people that worked a supermarket who were taught to fly a ship in space.

For 18 years, I never knew the alien story continued beyond the 90s. I first watched it on vhs with a static tv in a barn. Ive had an unfinished story for years until I found out it kept going. Amazing lore that keeps you entangled in the story having detective thoughts. Prometheus was amazing and it left you with questions after every scene. I wasn't even able to smoke during the movie because it kept me so engaged. I love movies that keep you guessing and wondering whats going to happen next. Id give it a 9/10 would be 10 if we got more information and understanding of what was going on, but then it wouldn't be a thriller.

What disappointed me most about this movie was that the alien civilization was not explored. How they lived, talked, ate, would have been very exciting to see. This is what I wanted to see. And the most important question- 'why they wanted to kill the human race', was never answered.
The movie instead takes a different turn. In one quick scene, the whole alien civilization was destroyed by David. Quite disappointing.
Ive read somewhere that the reason that they want to kill humanity is because they are building AI's that eventually kill them! As if they have some future seeing or visions. Kinda makes sense
exactly!! I was left with SO many questions after watching this, and I watched it over and over to see if I missed something. It just leaves you hanging, esp. like you said, when they could have put in so many different but important little details. and that darn David. lol.

By all account Romulus is going to be very average, just like this movie and Prometheus.
Alien Romulus is going to be another retro fanboy movie like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, imitating a classic but bringing nothing new or interesting. Which isn't to say Covenant was good.
i just dont like the casting choice of Romulus. They are all 4'7" teenagers doing some space expedition. As much as how dumb the humans here, atleast Ridley Scott can cast faces that actually blend to the setting of the movie

I don't think the cgi on the xeno is bad. They can now make it be agile and fast. Back when they used suits the aliens would move somewhat clumsy so I think the cgi will help that out.
The point of the alien is not for it to be agile and fast. Making it some 100% CGI bullshit completely betrays the artistic merit of the original alien. The xenomorph is supposed to be a graceful (if such a thing can be said) creature of the shadows. Having the xenomorph be a man in a suit makes it much more unnerving, as it looks more human. The creature is essentially a metaphor for rape, and thus, humanizing the creature (i.e. making it a man in a suit) makes it that much creepier.

Also, if we think about it, then Alien Isolation should be the worst game of all of time because it changed the physical structure of the Alien to make it look more like an animal. When in reality it looks absolutely outstanding and is probably the best Alien game ever made. Recommended to listen the audio commentary made by Al Hope for Alien, he explains a lot there.

They're using both CGI and practical effects. Obviously things like the Xenomorph charging down a hallway whilst leaping from wall to wall, head butting a cockpit repeatedly or the Neomorphs attacking are going to be CGI because it's exceedingly difficult to film such things with practical effects and get good results.
Additionally the advantage CGI has over practical effects is that you're not restricted by costumes and can undeniably make things look more unusual than a guy in a suit can, practical effects are best used for closeup shots and such.

I remember watching it a few years ago but man is the ending disturbing. I love movies with disturbing, dramatic or sad endings but this film was something else. I saw that people think this is one of the worst films in the franchise but i think this one was disturbing and violent so i liked it.
This is definetly worth watching. I watched the Alien movies a few years ago and eqrlier this year I watched Prometheus. If you liked that one you will like this one too. Intense story, great acting and beautiful music.
The Alien is incredibly fluid and lively. I love it.
That could be true IF we didn't already know what each inch of the Alien pretty much already looks like thanks to all of the previous films. Lack of visibility is simply a part of context and pacing which is essential for a any film...tension and release is what makes horror.

Alien: Romulus is coming up next. Looks like Michael Fassbender's character is far from over. He's critically injured but he can resurrect.
An absolutely badass bombastic score, great cinematography, and dope CGI. I think a lot of the choices that some of the characters make are relatively stupid, except for Fassbender’s “David,” who carries this movie forward. That ending instantly had me anticipating a sequel and what that my entail with David returning to Earth with the Covenant filled with Xenomorphs. I Just hope it hasn’t been canceled, and I especially hope Ridley Scott doesn’t dropout of filming it. 🤞

Honestly a great movie, and the fact that David literally did some genetic engineering and experimentation on the Xenomorph species is just fking awesome. We got probably the coolest variants of the Xenomorphs outside of the books. Seriously epic variants, the one st the end is my personal favorite, waaaaaay more violent, stronger, faster and more agile.
Shouldn't have had the unnecessary backstory, contradicts so much from the original films and explains too many unnecessary things. Ruined the mystery which is what made it "alien". Also now that we know it was created on earth by a humanoid robot with was created by a human, they technically aren't aliens now. They fucked up everything.
So I'm guessing Master Chief is still asleep

This film has it all:
-THE OLD: this is a prequel to Alien, has eggs, facehuggers and a Xenomorph. It also has a spaceship with a likable crew!
-THE FRESH: this is the sequel to Prometheus, has David and Shaw returning, the planet is the Engineer home world, and there are Neomorphs (new aliens) and possibly even more surprises in store! There's a lot for you guys! Ridley Scott himself has said he doesn't like to tread on familiar ground, he likes to move forward! So most likely the xenomorph we see here isn't much of a focus in the film, only an obstacle at one point, most likely not even near the end. He also said this film WILL answer the question "Why did the Engineers want to destroy Earth?" and that this film will focus on the theme of immortality.
-GENRE: a thriller/horror/action mix, just like Prometheus.
I don't understand the whining about this trailer. It's going in the best direction for everyone! Some people are even whining about plotholes already. Really? You analyze something that isn't even there yet!?
The only issue I find is the CGI of the xeno at the end, it should be better, and hopefully it will be, they still have months to perfect it. That's it. Otherwise I'm hyped, this trailer is VERY promising.

How many times do we have to see a scientist do something as stupid as stick their face over the top of a "face hugger" egg? Seriously, I mean, no one with any common sense would stick their face stark naked over something moving that they have never seen before, much less someone who was supposedly smart enough for a colonization trip such as this one. Please find a new way to introduce the face huggers to Alien movies. It's been 6 or 7 times that we have seen it work that same way.
With that said, I will still go see this movie in its first week.

Well, really just in the 3 Ridley Scott entries. In Aliens, they were colonists, not scientists, they didn't really know any better. In Alien 3 it was a dog, and in Alien Resurrection people were impregnated on purpose. But yes, in Alien, Prometheus and apparently this one, we see supposedly smart people nosing around scary alien biology when they really should be more careful.
