Joseph wrote “I was also informed concerning the aboriginal inhabitants of THIS COUNTRY, and shown who they were, and from whence they came; a brief sketch of their origin, progress, civilization, laws, governments,…“. He went on to write “The remnant are the Indians that now inhabit THIS COUNTRY. This book also tells us that our Saviour [Savior] made his appearance upon THIS CONTINENT…”.

My 4th great grandfather Artemis Millett was the exterior Superintendent on the temple. He was responsible for all of the masonry and the “special” plaster recipe. Brigham Young told Joseph Smith that he knew someone in Canada ((Artemis Millett). Who could do the work, so Joseph told Brigham to go to Canada and baptize Artemis and tell him to bring $1000 back to Kirtland and help to build the temple. Artemis was baptized and did bring much skill from his masonry company and work in Canada and also much cash. He helped to buy shoes and food for many of the temple workers.

It resonates so deeply within me and helped reactive me after years of inactivity. It so reminded me of when the Israelites carried the bones of Joseph of old up out of Egypt to be buried in the sacred burial place of his fathers Abraham, Isaac Jacob along with Sarah, Rebecca, and Leah. So special that Joseph Smith as a remnant seed of Joseph and his family are buried along with others who were a remnant of Joseph of old. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

What a great interview with Rod! And I absolutely believe what Rod is saying about Nauvoo being a Hopewell Indian settlement and sacred burial ground. When you read the Book of Mormon, the City of Gideon is on the east side of the River Sideon and Zarahemla is on the west side of the River. Therefore the city of Gideon was a very sacred place, because it was named after the great warrior Gideon who stood up to Nehor. And he was slain upon a mount in the city of Gideon. It is a possibility that the Mount that Gideon was slayed upon is possibly where the Nauvoo Temple was situated many hundreds of years later, of course.
When I was in Nauvoo many years ago back in 1985, there was something so sacred about the ground and the whole city, that the Spirit of the Lord resides in that whole City. And the air is so thick with the power of the Holy Spirit, that I know that place is sacred to God. It just feels like sacred burial ground is there!
I hope that Rod Meldrum gets the opportunity to go down into the basement of the Little Red Brick Store and see all those artifacts. These things need to come up out of the dark and out of the basements and into the light so that we may get to see the truth!

This is so exciting. I was just recently wondering if there is any archeological evidence in the Zarahemla area across from Nauvoo. Fascinating to learn of ancient bones and arrow heads and Hopewell mounds. It makes sense with all the wars in the Book of Mormon. Also amazing to learn that the Nauvoo area is the first place where crossing the river on foot used to be possible. They definitely crossed the river Sidon in the Book of Mormon. I would love to learn more of what has been found across the river from Nauvoo in what may be ancient Zarahemla.

Interesting to me is that a few large ancient North American earthworks were constructed in the shape of the square and the circle, and sometimes the octagon. Some had just the square and circle but at least one was built in all three distinct shapes. Archeologists saw no practical reason for the shapes and assumed they might have been for religious purposes…

If Zarahemla is across the river from Nauvoo, that would mean that the location of the Nauvoo Temple is the location of the battle that Alma and the Nephites had against the Amlicites and Lamanites. That would of course be the case IF the City of Zarahemla was in fact located across the Mississippi from Nauvoo and yet the temple is not that high in elevation to actually be considered a "hill" nevertheless, the Book of Mormon refers to the hill on the east side of the River Sidon from the City of Zarahemla.

how did the "Community of Christ" manage to "hold-on" to any property in Nauvoo since the Saints were driven out and forced to turn-over their property to the mobs. Didn't the Saints that stayed in Nauvoo also have to give-up their Property? I ask because my Great-Grandfather (Aroet Hale) left his property and forced out to Utah. Since reparations are such a huge focus right now, I must say I’m for it too. The US government “owes” my family, yours, a ton of money. I can’t imagine what my lot in life would look like had the land my family owned there not been violently taken by the Christian and Government mobs back in the JS/BY pioneer era. 😮

    • @ShiningSakura
      @ShiningSakura Před 5 měsíci +3

@@dcarts5616 On the subject of reparations... honestly I would rather not go down that path. Its a never ending cycle of you owe me and grudges when you boil things down and a general entitlement for descendants that are far removed from the event in question.
To quote a pioneer who came west during the time paraphrased..... The price to become acquainted with God was worth it.... far more than what they lost in the end.
God will make all things right in the end better than man could ever. It hurts, but in the end that's part of coming down to earth and living life. You lose some, you win some. That's just part of the mortal experience. If all things were ALWAYS fair... it would not be Gods plan but would resemble closer to satan's plan..... YUCKY.
I did not come here for all things to be fair all the time, I came knowing life would someone be downright unfair at times that makes my soul weep. This state in life though would be far more rewarding and far more opportunities to learn and grow in the end.
I would rather move on despite myself having ancestors who lost land from this event. I live a pretty happy and fulfilling life for myself after all, not perfect, but happy enough. What good would reparations do for me????? Nothing really other than taking from someone else who had nothing to do with things as much as I have nothing to do with this past event. That would make me sad honestly because they need that for their family during these hard times and make resentment.... I don't want that.

Reparations will descend into a neverending you owe me, I owe you conversation. It’s a bummer our ancestors had an extermination order signed against them. It’s a bummer they had to leave everything. We aren’t asked to walk away from our land, we are asked to walk away from temptations and lifestyles that don’t exist in their day. Which is harder?

Look up Nineveh.... i didn't plot them out, but there are 7 cities with that name and they should all be in the path of the eclipse happening in a few weeks. Pretty crazy stuff... that can't be accidental or coincidental. Not with 7 Salems with the eclipse in 2017. Something to think on at least.

Thank you Greg and Rod Meldrum. I really enjoyed your podcast. I had a chance to meet Karl Anderson several years ago in Kirtland. His book Joseph Smith's Kirtland is one of the most spiritual books I have ever read. Most people are not aware that there were many appearances of the Father and the Son there, even before the temple dedication. Here is a video of Brother Anderson in Kirtland: czcams.com/video/PzI4r_Tk9wo/video.html

What if it's an Ephraim burial site? Joseph was prophecied in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is the records of the Line of Joseph who was sold into Egypt. Just a thought.

The Kirtland Temple tour was $10 each when we were there in Oct (2023). I've been there twice before and don't remember ever being charged. So grateful that our tours will be free, as with all our sites. My only concern is that non-members (and members alike) will not be able to feel the difference in the Spirit from the Temple and Historic KIRTLAND. I've always been able to feel it.

Don't be concerned. Those that are in tune and willing/able to feel the spirit will. It's not something to be forced upon people. I believe that with our missionaries in charge now, things will just somehow be...different. I haven't been to Kirtland but I have been to Nauvoo. The buildings owned by the Church had a TOTAL different feel than the ones owned by the CofC. God works in mysterious ways. His ways will prevail when necessary.

He signed mine, and my wife and I got a picture with both of them. Bro. Anderson is a stake patriarch. He also has a CZcams video well worth watching that is the same name as his book, The Savior in Kirtland. He tells about the many appearances of Christ and Heavenly Father to Joseph Smith and the Saints during what Joseph calls the Pentecostal period of the Restoration. czcams.com/video/PzI4r_Tk9wo/video.html

Technically, the things we do at church aren't free. We arent cheap. We just spend 10% of our income on the church plus fast offering, so many of us dont have a lot left over. I wouldnt be as "cheap" if i had an extra 10%+ to spend on travel, dining and so forth. Not complaining, just taking exception to "Mormons are cheap".
That said, i was a valet attendant at a 5 star restaurant. We would joke/lament that if the key board was full of keychain oil viles we werent going to have great tips that night.

@@napaljarrinappaljarri5175 OK so you are telling people that the savior of the world can't do his work...He can't set his feet on the Mount of Olives, He can't come again until some documents and properties are purchased by multiple attorneys in deeds and trusts et al? Oh, wait especially if maybe one of the legal transaction documents shows up with an error in it. They'll have to gather the appropriate legal entities to re-draft it. So I guess Jesus will have to wait for that, etc. etc..
Those that have ears that will hear and eyes that see will know of the winding-up scene, regardless of the purchases of these items .
Yeah, Jesus had to wait until the church invested in liberal hedge funds Until they have the money that they do now, and in this case, the money to purchase these properties and documents.
Yeah, the Kirtland temple has to be bought because it's sort of rundown and it needs to be renovated so Jesus can come.
Yeah Jesus sure can't come until the characters document changes ownership and the Navu House changes ownership et al.
Why do so many get themselves worked up in a frenzy over cultural things? People bearing testimonies about different photos of Joseph Smith, people bearing testimonies of Paul Dunn stories that turned out to be false and so on.

I think that one who has ears to hear and eyes to see is aware of the times we are in. I don't think that Jesus Christ is beholden to certain purchases of documents, and some properties before he can come again.
I don't think that Jesus Christ has to wait for the church to make a lot of money in liberal hedge funds and in this case to use many attorneys to secure these documents and the Nauvoo house etc before he comes . I don't think he has to wait for the kirtland tempke to be cleaned up and updated and make it a super duper visitors center before he comes. No, I don't think he's behooven to all that stuff. It's No wonder that others see the church as a cult.
I suggest that people keep their eyes focused on future events in Jerusalem and especially the temple mount.
And alas, I will say it : I think the money could've better been spent building a couple of nursing care centers and staffing it… Doing something concrete that really blesses the lives of people here and now. Because God certainly doesn't need church history documents to change ownership, or properties to change ownership, to do his work nor to hasten his coming.
So disappointing what a frenzy this has become for some people.
Doesn't move the needle, despite how much some want it to.
