Today, I take another nostalic and historic memory lane road trip. In this episode, I visit the famous gravesites of many of the cast members from the classic 1960s TV show THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW.
I also visit the location where the opening scene of the show was filmed. The Franklin Canyon Park and reservoir in Beverly Hills, California is used as the fishing hole in Mayberry.
    GRAVESITE VISITS INCLUDE:
Don Knotts (Sheriff Barney Fife), Westwood Village Memorial Park, Westood, CA
Howard McNear (Floyd the barber), Los Angeles National Cemetery, Westwood, CA
Harold "Hal" Smith (Otis), Woodlawn Cemetery, Santa Monica, CA
Howard Morris (Ernest T), Hillside Memorial Park, Culver City, CA
Aneta Corsaut (Helen Crump), Valhalla Cemetery, North Hollywood, CA
Earle Hagen (Composed the TV theme song), Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, CA
I also remember Andy Griffith, Frances Bauvier, Jim Neighbors, George Lindsey, Hope Summers, Jack Dodson, Paul Hartman and others.
Thanks for joining me on my travels on yet another trip to the past, down memory lane.

I still love the Andy Griffith show. I still watch it. To be honest all those characters are unique. They all support each other. How could you favour Andy without Barney who made him stand out. It is hard to favour just one from the show. Who made this Andy Griffith show was an excellent person who combined the characters so meshes together that one cannot do without the other. So it is all about the Andy Griffith show in a "nut shell". Even the person who whistled the song. For me the name of that tune is "the Andy Griffith show". I like the twist of the show too with the Hillybillies and their ways of life. I always enjoy this show.

Here’s a nice little tid-bit for fans of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Did you know that Earl Hagen was under a lot of pressure to write the theme because there was so little time before production was scheduled to begin. When it was done, everyone liked it, but wanted to hear the lyrics. That was the first Hagen had heard that he was supposed to write music AND lyrics, and with so little time remaining before production , he abandoned any attempt to come up with lyrics and decided to just whistle. Hagen recorded the whistling himself because there was no time to search for talent. He never thought the producers would accept his work, but by that point, he didn’t care, he was frustrated by there demand for lyrics. As we know, they loved it, and the rest is Hollywood history. I’m hoping this is true. It was told to me by Burt Mustin who often acted on the show and you might remember as Gus the fireman on LEAVE IT TO BEAVER.

OMG, that is such an awesome tidbit of fun trivia, Henry. I visited Burt Mustin’s gravesite last week but decided to wait and include him in my upcoming leave it to beaver Vlog. If I do a part two of this Andy Griffith vlog I will definitely include him in it as well. How cool that you knew him. Thanks for sharing this with us Henry 😊👍

Hi Steve, A little voice was telling me to Google actress Aneta Corsaut (Helen Crump) only to learn that she was born in my own birth state of Kansas. In looking over Aneta's Wikipedia page and according to the book, "Andy & Don: The Making of a Friendship and a Classic American TV Show" it mentions that she and Andy Griffith had an affair while working on the show plus Griffith was married at the time. Aneta never married.

CarolinaGirl I think Andy Griffin and Ms. Corsaut had great chemistry on the show and I think they were a good match for each other. Andy’s last wife was a piece of work. She buried him 5 hours after he died and had the home he shared with a previous wife demolished. Ms. Corsaut also played a role on Bonanza as a love interest for the character of Adam Cartwright played by Pernell Roberts. Of all of his character’s love interest she was my favorite. She was a beautiful lady of grace.
