Hello from former Soviet Romania to all the comrades from the former Soviet Polish republic.
You disregard the most advanced car in Eastern Europe, at least from a technological point of view. Boxer engine, modern brakes, very good Cx, design and balance for his time, and so on..... All the others, Lada, Polski Fiat, and Zastava, were old, cheap, and poor versions of Fiat. We shouldn't mention Skoda, Wartburg, or Trabant as being cars. I drove this car for 7 years and 120.000 km without any problem and sold it in a perfect state. And yes, the engine started with a crank, in any circumstances..... Even on hard winters...
Sami pod koniec lat 80 mając Fiata 126p chcieliśmy zmienić auto i kupić nowego Oltcita. Jednakże po dokonaniu "wywiadu środowiskowego" zdecydowaliśmy się na 6 letniego Peugeota 205 z silnikiem 1.1 benzyna, 5d.🙂 I to był świetny wybór ! ! ! Pozdrawiam i dzięki za super film 👍👍👍👍
Oltcit Club was Citroen Axel, a model that had nothing in common with Visa. Axel was the result of 1970's Citroen's Prototype Y, intended to replace the 2CV based Ami. As the communist regime in Romania wanted to have a more affordable small car for people, they cut a deal with Citroen and build the car in Romania. For Eastern Europe markets they call it Oltcit Club, but retain the real name Citroen Axel for Western Europe markets. It was a good car as long as it was build with French parts, but, in time, the assimilation of parts production in Romania resulted in low quality parts, reducing the overall build quality of the car, typical communist block. As for the rust,well, we talk about a car more than 30 years old, even Mercedes was not very good at resisting rust! One thing though, it was very advanced for a mini class car, disk brakes on all four wheels, electronic ignition, very comfortable suspension etc.

You are talking about a car made in the 80s mate. This car was an average quality car compared even with the cars made in the west

I often thought that my fathers Trabant is a kinda horrible car, but the Oltcit seems even worse. Atleast it's a bit quirky.
Yet it's not... They just wanted to make the video funnier.
Simca 1300 and Renault 14, we in the west had horrible cars to. You could buy both new and after 2 years throw them away rusted. And the R14 had a to small engine bay, so overheat
In Romania, there used to be a rather big rivalry between Oltcit and Dacia owners. Oltcit owners would brag about their faster, more modern car, about their digital clock and satellites and mock the "1950's engineering" of the Dacia. Dacia owners would mock the reliability, size and design of the Oltcit, calling it an "unfinished car" (because of the quarky back end of the Oltcit which gives the impression that the car was supposed to be longer) and would always remind Oltcit drivers that when you own a Dacia, you don't have to put a plastic bag over the distributor when raining to avoid water from getting in. Now that they've become clasics, the rivalry has ended, although some sparks still usually appear. As a proud Dacia owner, I want to defend my fellow Oltcit owners by pointing out that you pretty much painted the Oltcit as the worst car ever (which let's face it, it wasn't). If you were so tough on the poor little Oltcit, I can only imagine how brutal you'll be on the Trabant:)))
Don't worry, trabant will get it hard, just like every polish car from soviet era. Thanks for watching ;)

Pamiętam tego Rumuna, mój tata miał to brzydactwo, chociaż wtedy po przesiadce z Malucha to była przepaść. Dziś patrzę na to z sentymentu i się zastanawiam jak my tym jeździliśmy - tragedia🤮. Ale niestety nam Polakom badziewie wciskali, cóż ludzie wszystko brali, takie czasy, ehh🙄
Gdy moi rodzice po trzech maluchach w końcu kupili rozpadające się zastave to wrażenie było jakby się do Merola wsiadło, a to też złom okropny był ta Zastava. Takie czasy, a jednak naginalo się tym kilometrów
Gdybym miał oltcita, to bym go spalił. Kicz i ohyda, którą trudno sobie wyobrazić, wielu Rumunów ma traumatyczne wspomnienia z tym czymś, w internecie są filmy z palenia oltcita na zlocie
