Inspiring Small-Scale Market Garden's Approach to Connecting People with Food | Permaculture Ethics

  • In summer 2020 we visited Glasbren market garden. It is located a few miles east of Carmarthen, Wales, and produces 50 veg boxes a week for its local community and has a hugely inspiring vision for the future. Here is a film that highlights their ethos in terms of the importance of connecting with nature and how regenerating our soils can regenerate our local communities. Their refreshing outlook on how we can produce food brings hope for the future, and it is great to see food producers who prioritise things like mental health and not just growing for productivity.
The benefits for our mental health of being close with nature is also clearly demonstrated with how they approach market gardening. We must remember that regenerative agriculture is more than just regenerating our soils, it is also about regenerating ourselves and our communities for a more resilient and sustainable future.
A huge thanks to Glasbren for their time: / glasbrencsa
Many thanks to Eifion Jones for producing this film: www.torchydesign.co.uk/

This gives me some hope. I love this local, communal, small scale approach. Everything in the modern world seems to drive us towards centralisation, globalisation and quantity over quality. Well done. Politicians have failed us.......let's do it ourselves!

Gave this a like before the first minute. Everyone should live like this instead of the concrete, glass and led lights of the city. An example of how business thinks is my local leasing company wouldn't let me get a small van like yours which I wanted for the farmers markets. They said they would only help me if I bought a one tonne van or larger, even tho I told them it would burn more fuel and be harder to park and impact the environment worse than the smaller van.
This world has become too much of excessive waste and pursuit of the dollar no matter what the cost of the Earth and its occupants.
Please keep creating these videos to keep inspiring us out here.

Great film! Going back to nature, being part of nature..it is something that some people think it is odd and backwards..I think it completely the opposite...it is the only way to remember who we are and know our true nature. Life is much more enjoyable when one feels part of everything and lives happily surrounded by the creation.

Yes, nature knows how to thrive... It is what nature does... And, humans as a whole have forgotten we are part of nature... I do think we have seen, as in many native people's who have been tending the wild 💗 that there is an even deeper, sacred relationship with humans and nature, in which both thrive even more.

Really inspiring. I watched all four videos one after the other. I have 1/3 acre right in the middle of town. I do a bit but I really need to do a lot more with my small holding. When I moved here it was all lawn (people in the US sure like the stuff). Took years to pull it all out. It is now a small certified wildlife habitat with fruit trees and bushes and a vegetable garden, but not all that productive. This motivates me into transforming it into more. Suprised to see Huw. Fan of his since he was a young kid. I could be his great grandmother. lol

The problem arises that whenever you have stakeholders in your business who aren't in it for the holistic approach to permacultures but rather in the unique selling point of Bio, Certified-NonGMO-NonPesticide abusing this system for personal gain people with honest and good intentions are at some point discarded, at which point harvest metrics are more important. Love this approach, not viable as a business though. With farmers more and more in debt and big investors changing over to the "eco-friendly" farming according to legislature ... monsanto will at some point own the world. Grow your own food, don't rely on others for your needs and your mind and body will thank you for it. My 20 cents. Cool video!
