This is so awesome!! I’m 61. The first Christian song I heard was Clean. I was hiking around Stone Mountain Ga with a youth group. I have every Petra album. The scripture in the songs has been a lead for my life.

I saw Head East live in Wichita Falls Tx twice when I was a teenager, once John left the band they fell out, I saw them twice again without him and let's just say, it was a no go. Awesome to see what the Lord has done in John's life. He sounds great with Petra.
I was in that life also, let me tell you something, it's very hard to escape it without the help, love, grace, mercy and power of Jesus Christ. No one fully understands God's ways, but I know in my heart he is real and that John and I both were changed by his grace.
I learned the Word through Petra's lyrics as a teenager. When it came time for a harvest in my heart, it was like the field of dreams due to all the seeds already there. Thank you.
I used play Head east on college radio, so when i got saved in '86 I was on my way to a softball game with a friend from church. He had a cassette in and heard that unmistakable voice that I knew had to be John Schlitt. I was so glad I had something to listen to and like someont i had looked up to also got saved, Praise God.

I think of this verse when I see the negative comments about testimonies like this. God did something beautiful in delivering John from what could've been disastrous. We as Christians need to rejoice with him in that. Jesus said encourage one another, not criticize and tear down. The God of the universe will judge severely those who cause any of his little ones to stumble. His salvation is between him and God. Peace
A friend gave a cassette of Petra to me in 1990. Ive been a fan ever since. Now my husband and myself are fans of the group. I was single when my friend gave me the cassette. ☺.

I love John's voice, I remember seeing him with Head East when I was in high school. I'm glad he found happiness and is still making great music! It's all about believing in something greater than yourself, if it's God that's awesome, if it was the importance of his presence in his family's lives that's awesome too.
Not everyone is that lucky. I grew up in a Christian home and I still struggle daily. I believe I am saved but I never had a defining moment and my life is a train wreck. I wish him well.
We are all tools to be used by the Lord and thank you for you doing your part in the Lord's music. God has changed my life and every time I listen to petra I hear thing I never heard before it means a lot to me thank you.

Not some old guys trying to reclaim their youth, but as veterans showing the world how to do a *real* Christian rock album.

The band was.playing at the DuQuoin State Fair for the 100th Anniversary and they played there. So cool....did not get to stay but I hope you come back to Southern Illinois!

An INCREDIBLE story of REDEMPTION ! I remember this song so well. When it came out I was also doing a lot of Cocain. It was all about Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll ! It took me a lot longer to get straight, but I too was saved by Jesus Christ. Through my wife ! Praise God !😍
What's incredible is how merciful God is. How blessed is the guy who studies the bible, gets his theology down pretty good, sins like we all do but keeps the faith and dies in peace but the thief on the Cross didn't have a chance to become a theologian or witness to anyone but acknowledged we are getting what we deserve but this man has done nothing wrong, and hear, this day you'll be with me in paradise
My hat is off to anyone who can kick substance abuse and salvage their life. Having lost a brother and several friends to alcohol and/or drug addiction, I do care how a person becomes clean and sober. If they rely on Christianity to accomplish it, then so what. A person is a lot more valuable to themselves, their family, and society clean and sober than being a hopeless addict.
Need to go watch some videos from Petra I got to meet John and Petra in the 90's while working at the Ohio Center in Columbus Ohio as a usher and tiçket taker and I was going to take the elevator up stairs to the arena and John was getting off the elevator and I said hey John glad your here cause I was sick of the country and western bands or rock and roll bands because of the people who were causing me and my friends trouble and I can't remember what he said but God I was so happy for them to be there cause their concerts were awesome . I loved them
They came to my city on the farewell tour and I had wanted to go soooo badly, unfortunately I had fallen seriously ill three weeks prior and had to undergo major surgery to remove an infected organ. But, going through that ordeal strengthened my relationship with the Lord. So I missed the concert, suffered through a scary illness, lost one of my body parts and the ability to have children BUT gained a new appreciation for the Lord! I'd say it was a very fair trade and I came out the better for it. Amen.

At that time Petra was in an identity crisis and John was intent on seeing the band through that. And then "Jeckyl and Hyde" came out! Very nice guy, and a true professional. If you get a chance, check out John's last hit with Head East, "If You Knew Me Better". It didn't chart in the States but it was a hit in Germany and is still remembered there. It's here on CZcams.

thanks for posting this. i greg volz and john both. In this video, John has an amazing transformation. Though Petra is retired, their legacy remains and more importantly, they had been a blessing to alot of people. Surely God will raise another "petra" in the near future.
