Your owner’s manual has a little card in the back that you can take out and put in your wallet with the directions on it for entering the pin.

Thank You so much Doc ! I'm not going into my story but this just saved me a 90 mile trip to Reno, NV. I have two fobs and extra batteries. Now I know how to set my security number on my six year old Harley. This is a big deal to me. No I don't want a new Harley. My last Harley had over 111,000 miles on it with the original engine. (just K&N air filter and Vance & Hines 2 into one exhaust). Oh Yes Doc, I'm 78 years young and still riding. I love my soft tail.

Late to the party here (just caught this video). Earlier this summer, I noticed that sometimes (not every time), when I first turned on the ignition (before starting my bike), the odometer on my ‘21 Road Glide Limited would briefly display “fob batt low”. Was seeing that periodically for about a week, but I didn’t see the whole message at first. Just caught glimpses of it. The message would only come up for a second or two immediately after turning the ignition on, so it was easy to miss. After realizing what it was displaying, I changed the fob battery and never saw the message again. I always carry spare fob batteries in the bike anyway, and I know my PIN, so no big deal. I don’t think I’ve heard this mentioned anywhere else, so I figured I’d share it here.

Thanks for the info Doc. As a visual type person, watching this video made more sense to me than reading the instructions in the owners manual. Also, the idea of using your zip-code for the 5 digit PIN was an excellent idea. Thanks again.

Hello Doc, oohhh exactly what happend to us. My wife and i had a nice trip to Austria. One morning, we where going to leave from the Hotel when the alarm on her iron 883 went off. On vacation, in front of the hotel, not at home. 😁 Since then i change the batteries in the FOB's every spring before the season starts. We learned it the hard way. 😁

Doc, great to know the PIN. Me and a couple of others got caught out when we parked close to a police station in Spain. When we came back 3 of 5 bikes would not recognise the phobs. Turns out some police and military establishments transmit a blocking signal to stop remote activation of IEDs.

Good advice! I was on a road trip staying with some friends. I raided my keyfob for someone's car key battery. Got a new battery after starting my bike using the pin. Installed it and my keyfob didn't work.
I went to call the dealer and just as I was doing it, I had the fob apart and realized I hadn't taken off the protective film.
One note you didn't touch on... At least on my '18 Road King, the manual has a card you can fill out with your pin and instructions on how to enter it if needed. I keep it in my Law Tigers folder in a baggie in my locked saddlebag with my registration and insurance card.

I have a 2020 Street Glide and only got one fob with the bike in that year. I think Harley should supply a second fob for the owners with that problem. Just for the customers that were cheated and only got one fob. I know some dealers were decent and supplied a second fob when you purchased the bike. Those are thoughtful dealers. Those dealers care about the customers. Just my thoughts.

After watching this key fob video I purchased 2 2032 batteries. My 2001 Heritage Heritage Softail Classic has 2 notches opposite the notch depicted in this video. I opened my Heritage softail manual and followed the pin code instructions BUT except for the recent mileage today from Prescott AZ to Yarnell AZ and back, appearing in the odometer window is the 88.5 miles today. Run/stop switch to stop,, Ignition key to ACC, hold both turn signal switches until confirmation, enter left turn signal to obtain a number 1-9, then right turn signal. The odometer mileage 88.5 remains in the window. I have also the key fob on my belt. Mileage is nearly 78,000-. Light for me since my 1989 Dresser had over 110 miles in 11 years when I sold it in September 2000 to purchase my Heritage. My owner's manual doesn't have the pin code and don't recall (82 yrs of age) the dealership informing me of the code they set. Also had Harley facility (Blue Collar) in Prescott Valley AZ adjust my Headlight/Passing Lamps too after watching your video. An A+ for you and video contents. Ken C.

Stopped for gas on bike found a group of riders stuck because one of their riders keyfob battery died. Nobody had a spare... told them just start one bike then take the battery out of their fob and give it to the other guy who's battery died and let him start his bike.. The feeling of looking so stupid was instantly seen on their faces. They sat for nearly an hour before I showed up for gas. They gassed me up for free. Also break open your fob and take a picture of the numbers inside and just change battery at oil change.

I have a friend who is in his early 70's. His wife bought him a 2nd hand 2015 Wide Glide a couple of years ago as a birthday present. A few weeks ago he disconnected the battery to add a permanent charge jack. Well after words as you can guess, no putt putt. I being a very good electronics tech took a look to see if I could find if something was disconnected or unplugged & found what looks like a radio receiver under the seat. She nor he was ever given any FOB's for the bike, all he has is a round key. Now here is the big problem, we are in Iloilo, Philippines & apparently there are only 3 of these beasts in the entire Philippines. Shipping the motorcycle due to its weight & size is out of the question financially, heck, they don't even have any tow trucks here, plus the fact that we are 35kms away from the nearest ferry port. What can we do to get my friend up & running again?

Great video! And please learn from my mistake...if the battery is a CR2032, then you have to replace it with the exact same number. I accidently bought a CR2025 and thought it would be okay. It's the same 3 volts and appeared to be the same size. But it's not, the CR2025 is a little thinner (won't notice by looking) and it will not allow the FOB to work correctly. Painful mistake. I used the PIN system for +2 years before someone helped me out.

I switched the ignition on, took out the main fuse, fitted the alarm box as I have been told, then put the main fuse in and switched the ignition off. Then I turned on the ignition and started the bike. But why does the check engine light come on in the speedometer (not on the screen) after the engine is running? No that is too early of a model. Your local dealer with HD computer or independent shop with software will have to extract that information….Doc

On my bike 2008 softail Rocker you turn on ignition and quickly press/hold both turn signals. Got to be quick. Then it prompts you to enter pin

Hi doc one more time. How do I turn off the chirp on my 2022 Road Glide Limited FLTRK? I've watched some videos here on CZcams how to do it, but I can't get it to stop chirps. Do I have to go to the dealer?
Thanks for reply. Greetings from Norway.

DOC- I purchased a 2018 Street Glide with 2k miles on it about a year ago. The sales person never mentioned a key fob and I thought nothing of it. Lately, I've been wondering why I don't have one. would it be possible that the bike simply didn't offer one in that year?

  • @jimeckenrode1271

Doc, I hope you don't mind but I have a HD question I was hoping you would answer. I ride a 98 Gold Wing and my best riding buddy rides a 2008 HD Classic with 96 inch motor. We go on long trips and when we stop for gas we take the same amount of fuel. My other friends have new or newer HD"s and they are getting 265 miles on a tank of fuel where we were stopping at 180-200 but need gas at 225 miles. Are they using larger tanks on the newer bikes or did they do something to increase mpg ?

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  Před 2 lety +1

Yes the new bikes have 6 gallon tanks and every year the tune gets leaner for higher MPG. The later bikes also have more power so they don't have to twist the throttle as far as you do....Doc
