    I like how Chaos is holding their own head from the previous game, with what seems to be a new version of them coming from it. Plus Chaos' new look and outfit are killing it. Really nails the fact to that they are both male and female and also neither male nor female. Plus the fact that there seem to be 3 Chaos in the image (The old look, the new look, and the infant) makes me think that Chaos must be constantly changing through some strange cosmic death and rebirth. Which is perfect for a being who is literally entropy.

    I like to think that Chaos's appearance changes based on the state of the world or how much 'chaos' there is. He appeared monstrous in the first game because things were peaceful and he didn't have as much 'power', or more accurately, didn't have to EXERT as much power. But since Chronos came along and mucked up the world so badly by messing up the balance of life and death, the world, the underworld and Olympus are LITERALLY in utter chaos, thus giving him more power and allowing himself a more 'regal' form. It could even be a situation where, since the world is so messed up thanks to Chronos, he's had to genuinely get serious in God knows how long and, just like the new sprites of the Gods on Olympus, this is sort of his 'war armour'. Also headcannon that the old face he's holding is literally his old body, like he shed off his skin from the previous game like an exoskeleton and that's what he's holding. And the fetus attached to the skin represents Nyx, as she is his child aka his 'baby' and it also appears to have the Darkness gem that's associated with her. It's 'asleep' thanks to what Chronos did to her. As for why he looks like Maegara, I honestly have no idea, but maybe it has something to do with how the Titan's ALSO came from Chaos, and his appearance was passed down to Maegara and the furies as they're like, his graddaughters or something. Who knows.

      You make some interesting points, but you confused the 2 definitions of chaos: the lack of order and the Primordial Chaos. In Greek mythology, Primordial Chaos is the "raw" reality - like clay that you use for pottery, except instead of pots you make gods and universes. It is quite disorienting, but it is not related to disorder or disorganization, nor are those things the domain of the deity Melinoë talks with.
      Chaos (the being) actually mentions it in the first game when talking about Ares:
      "He still worships me, you know; yet, I would say he does not know me very well"
      Ares is the one who invokes anarchy, confusion and havoc. The war and the chaos on Olympus would empower him, not the Primordial.

    I feel like the nature of Chaos' concept prevents anyone from having any criticism on their design. Any criticism can be countered by saying that it's Chaos, it's supposed to look wrong, etc... Personally I'd rather something less "defined" than this design, but whatever.

    • @bokarndiaye323
      @bokarndiaye323 Před měsícem +22

      I don't know if I would have thought the design fitting on its own, but I think it works really well if you take in in context of the first one. Chaos holding a shell of their former self is a great way to trigger a mix of surprise and familiarity when we meet them for the first time in Hades II. It remains androgynous as the first design: the two new additions are the long white blouse (which calls to attention that Chaos is running an experiment), and the long mane of hair (like with Moros, I assume it indicates ties with Fate and the Fates). My main point of dislike is that the Earth globe they were holding is now an earring, which is a bit... meh. Doesn't bring enough attention to the idea that the world is just a tiny playtoy in Chaos' hands.

      I honestly think chaos and meg design similarities are purely coincidental, but I do think it’s interesting that chaos took on a more humanoid form. Is it because the influence, Zag and Nyx had on them? They already seem so curious about their “experiment” perhaps their form reflects that somewhat, being more connected to their world.

    • @Broomer52
      @Broomer52 Před měsícem +3

      Chaos can look however they want. He’s holding the head of his appearance in the first game and a baby version of himself is sprouting from the mouth, sometimes Chaos even refers to themself as if they were more than one person and then refers to themself as a singular person. Chaos is formless.

    • @themushroominside6540
      @themushroominside6540 Před měsícem +3

      Chronos merely asked and Chaos merely responed in earnest. To chaos, they expected nothing from chronos, not even malice nor the sembelnce of a deal to be made. They embrace curiosity and novelty, they are perhaps the only known being to know exactly where the fates may reside for they are able to act on fat whether they like it or not. One can ask the very secrets of the entire universe, and Chaos shall grant it to you without question. The cost of being given the secrets of the universe merely lies in ones own limits, it could take eons for them to finish or gor you to comprehend, eons of information could suddenly be transfered into your mind causing you to go mad, the awnser could be ridiculous simple or otherwise seen as an elaborate joke and the resulting realization/embarrassment of it all would certainly be amusing to chaos.
      It is said that the abrahamic god in a similar manner held creation for himself by merely asking for it from Chaos, giving him omnipotence whilst spliting him into three. Infinite power in the immortal alchemist, infinite knowledge in the incorperal ghost, and infinite compassion in the mortal child.

  • @Jack-lo5me
    @Jack-lo5me Před měsícem +55

    A lot of people are giving their ideas for the drastic design change. Personally, I see it as him observing himself. His previous form was created simply to HAVE form. But he seems to be a perfectionist in nature- or perhaps this form is just as chaotic and alien as any other to him, and he did not take it in order to blend in, or because he necessarily believed it necessary.
    He takes this form because in the sprawling, infinite Chaos of All, a feminine male(I know gender doesn’t really matter this so just how I describe them) in a dapper white and gold suit is no less chaotic then anything else.
    Perhaps what we see as normalcy is mearly a pattern, when in reality all that is normal and consistent is just a small blip of a pattern. A dot of consistency and sanity that only appears so because we are only observing it at that point.
    If we were to see the entirety of infinity, I doubt what we see as normal is universal. And perhaps the patterns of creation we see are outliers in comparison to all.

    • @kennyholmes5196
      @kennyholmes5196 Před měsícem +2

      I agree with you on this matter; normal is not universal. Not in the slightest. Because when you take what is normal in one area and move it to another that is different, what is normal is necessarily made abnormal due to shifting normality. Extrapolate that out to an infinite world with a finite area that has any given standard for "normal", and everything ends up being both an outlier due to how much of the universe doesn't have the normality, and the universal standard at the same time due to how infinity works.

      Chaos approaches everything like it’s an experiment and they are a scientist. They way he talks to you would be like how someone would try and speak to an AI. Chaos even calls this universe and experiment and treats no one in it like living creatures even while talking to them. Treating Zagreus as more of an amusing development rather than anything slightly significant and being less enthused by his sister noting how different they are. They are Chaos incarnate in that theirs no end goal to this experiment, rather they simply generated a world with criteria and wanted to see what happens. Theirs no method, theirs no purpose, just curiosity. Although after the events of the first game Chaos got more involved and now they fear they tainted the experiment by interfering too much which is likely why they chose a more humanoid form.

    I feels like it’s important to keep in mind that Chronos definitely asked Chaos where to the fates AFTER the capture of the underworld.
    If he already knew, then he wouldn’t have bothered asking Hades.
    And the fact Chaos asks Mel if she knows about the whereabouts of Zag or Nyx means THEY DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THE CAPTURE
    Chaos, as established, can sense intentions, but it seems like Chronos got around that. My guess is he said he wanted to “talk to the fates” and failed to mention / think the thought he would take them prisoner if the conversation didn’t go his way.
    As Chaos wanted to know if all was preordained by the fates, decided to see if it was possible for them to be share that information.
    Just to satisfy a whim of curiosity if the Fates had brought order to the events of the world Primordial Chaos created.
    The moment Chronos realized Chaos lacked the valuable information of “Nyx is a prisoner” he took advantage of that to keep her a a bargaining chip while also getting the Fates.
    Also as Chaos can always sense intentions, this is why they don’t get deceit. If a person lies, they always know.
    But technically, Chronos didn’t lie. He just intentionally left out a some facts. Some very important facts. And was very careful not to think about his wider scale motivations in Chaos’s presence

      The first is Chaos is showing it has dominion over life and death. The severed head of its former self is death, and the embryo emerging from the mouth is life/rebirth. Chaos holds these concepts in its hand as if it were a common object.
      The second is Chaos is showing it is capable of the impossible. It is holding both its past, represented as the head of its former design, and its future, represented by the embryo. A being as powerful as Chaos can simply perform these otherwise impossible tasks with no effort, because Chaos is less of a god and more of an Elderitch concept.
