  • This video is a detailed and comprehensive review of the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS, an outstanding airbrush for the money. Within this video we are taking a look at the spraying characteristics and features available in the eclipse, while comparing it to the Iwata micron takumi. I tried to add in all the information that I'd want to know before buying a new airbrush.
    Hopefully this is helpful for those of you looking to pick this one up. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them down below and I'll get back to you. Thanks so much for watching!

    I took the long way around to the best airbrush ive ever used. Ive tried Amazon specials, Badger, H&S Ultra, Eclipse HP-BS and finally got the HP-CS. I now do not use any of the others. The HP-CS is pure joy to use, lays down paint smooth as silk and is SUPER easy to mix in the cup and clean. I did get mine at Hobby Lobby also for $149 with the cleaner, lube, water trap and paints. Best deal going. Grab one and you WILL NOT be disappointed. I dont usually gush over a product, but this one is gush worthy!

    I got an Eclipse after watching a gamut of reviews as I was looking for a good all-purpose step up from the cheap Master Airbrush I had been using for practice.
    Overall I'm very pleased with it, I've used it to completely paint my DeAgostini Millennium Falcon, and the Eclipse helped me achieve an impressive finished result I definitely couldn't have obtained otherwise.
    My only problem I encountered with it was a clogged nozzle that took quite some time to clean out, but I think that falls down to user error/inexperience, not thinning my paints enough, and not cleaning it thoroughly enough after each session.

    Just ordered my Iwata Eclipse Hp Cs, so excited . I made the mistake of thinking I didnt deserve an airbrush like the Iwata Eclipse, Hp Cs and so I bough a cheap Amazon Iwata Knock off. I was able to get the cheap amazon air brush to work by thinning the Acrylic paints, and adding Air-brush flow improver only to have the nozzle eventually still clog up, what a hassle. Yes a cheap Amazon Iwata knockoff will work but not consistently working. I found keeping the cheaper air brush working was more time wasted/spent troubleshooting than painting.. I know the Iwata Eclipse will take my Model painting to the next level. I am so thankful I found your Channel great reviews, and you pay for what you get. I enjoy your vidoes, your voice is fine LOL don't change your videos for a few clowns complaining.

    At 1:37 that nozzle is actually fused to the threading part of the airbrush and isn't compression fit on my new Iwata Eclipse HP-CS. I'm a little confused on why and how to take it apart since every disassembly video including the one by Iwata themselves show it as a compression fit. I've triple checked to make sure I have the same airbrush and, yea, it's an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS.

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks man! You aren't removing the nozzle cap are you? You need that on to spray paint. You can only remove the small needle cap (the first one on the front). If you're completely new to airbrushing, I recommend leaving everything on for a while until you get used to it. Best of luck!

  • @alexfaktor136

    I have the Iwata High Performance HP-B Plus which has a .2mm nozzle. Seeing that the Custom Micron is only .02mm smaller, how much difference is there between the two? Sorry for the bad pun. For a future show, could you make one for airbrushing mountains? I'm not talking about simple gradients like on a t-shirt, but realistic mountains with a lot of details. This isn't very difficult with a brush and oil/acrylics, but I'm finding it very challenging with an airbrush. And as another person said, this is the best airbrush site on CZcams. I love the way you explain things and your voice is perfect, not too low.

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you for the kind words. The Iwata High Performance HP-B is just as good as a micron. I can paint exactly the same with both, so you are good to go! I will eventually get to more landscape paintings, but not any time soon. Study reference photos of mountains, and use shields or ripped pieces of paper to paint in sharp lines. Take your time and keep practicing! Best of luck.

    I have some, what looks to be corrosion(?) in the paint cup of my Iwata HP-CS I bought from a major retailer. It looks like the chrome has rubbed come off, and maybe brass underneath? Should I be worried about this? What might I have done that could cause this? I do use some solvent-based paints, AK Real Color or Tamiya XF using Mr Color Leveling Thinner, but I've not heard of those being reactive with chrome. Occasionally I'll run some Deluxe Brush Cleaner through to destroy any acrylics that might be lingering. I spray through Iwata Madea airbrush cleaner, and sometimes let the paintcup soak with it over night, or for an hour during paint sessions, to loosen up any of my water based acrylics.
    Or should I just not worry about this at all? I love the brush, I swap out the needle and nozzle to .5's so that I can get primers and varnishes on easy peasy, and find I can still do almost everything I was doing with my smaller needle. I use a ps-771 for any real detail work I have to do.
    Thank you!

    • @theartworkshop
      @theartworkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      unfortunately, this has happened to every airbrush I own, especially after a year or so of heavy use. The chrome tends to wear off exposing the brass inside the paint cup. Doesn't have any effect on the airbrush except for aesthetics. I wouldn't worry about it!

      @@theartworkshop I've got two Olympos-200 C airbrushes, these are called "Irregular grade B" and are sold as spare parts guns for the MP200-C Microns by Olympos. The only thing wrong with these two is the less than stellar chrome finish on the inside of the color cup--nothing else....yet they're both fully functioning airbrushes just like the actual Microns they're meant to be parts donors for. Both cost me about $65 each with free express shipping from Japan...my last one arrived in less than three weeks. I'm contemplating getting one of the "irregular grade B" 200 B guns (.18 mm) for $80 next paycheck, plus some spare needles--a 3-pack of .23 Micron C needles is about $56 right now because of the weak JP yen compared to the US$...only a year ago they were almost $30 apiece with no 3-packs available!
