I think Tiana SWEPT this line, the designers clearly loved her. The Cinderella is my favorite but I agree, the outfit and hair choice can age her (still obsessed though 😂)

Cinderella's most prominent characteristic, plot-wise, is her kindness. And it is her kindness that is her ultimate salvation, in the form of the mice and other animals working to rescue her. Her outfit was truly stunning and reminiscent of the best of '50s high fashion, but yeah, it seemed an odd choice for a character who was singled out by her kindness and generosity.
Aurora is one of my favorites too, mostly because the Sleeping Beauty story is such an elemental, visceral representation of the battle between good and evil. I think of Aurora, and immediately juxtaposed, I think dragon. So making Aurora embody the majestic power of the goodness that she represents seems like the design direction to lean into. It's better than seeing it as a menstruation story, where she pricks her finger, bleeds, becomes a woman, and "dies.". Bleaack. I read that interpretation as a preteen, and man, it scarred me.
I love talking about this stuff.

Okay mini rant but I just want to put my two cents in for my girl Cinderella 🙈
So as a die hard Cinderella fan, I do think her outfit was perfectly suited to the character. Cinderella is actually a very strong female character- just not in the usual ways. She has a lot of heart, kindness, imagination, and determination. She’s just unfortunately trapped in a situation of abuse and forced servitude but despite it all does not lose heart or faith in a better tomorrow (and still talks back to her step family multiple times- reasoning and well constructed arguments are her weapon of choice and picking her battles) Even the Fairy Godmother tells her “if you lost all your faith, I wouldn’t be here” saying it’s Ella’s belief and Imagination that manifested her. So her strengths are in what are deemed typically “feminine” traits. Kindness, imagination, quiet determination, etc. The design makes sense that it would be elegant with it’s colors and simple decorations like the pearls and silver bird as well as the floaty train. But then show the power that has always be within her all along with a pair of pants and a slicked back bun. And it’s all understated design that matches her mature yet thoughtful personality. I remember being so excited seeing her in pants because I could tell the artist got the strong aspect of her character and just brought out what was already there 💙I could see her wearing this 100 percent.
Sorry for the long comment, I’m always talking about/defending Cinderella in my everyday life so I always have my points ready in the back of my head 🤣 And you are more then welcome to agree to disagree because the whole Collector line for these girls is very polarizing which will definitely make this line go down as a very talked about line and an interesting idea from Disney that gave everyone something to dislike and like. I wonder if we’ll ever see the Designer Line have looks as experimental as these again?

No need to apologize, I appreciate the passion! I'm not a big Cinderella fan, but I am glad that she means so much to you! And I agree, this line has been very polarizing, so much so that I don't know Disney will do anything like it again. Which is a shame, because I would love to see them take a second crack at it

I like Moana because she feels like a real, complex person. She's not fearless, but she's brave, and kind, and selfless, and a whole bunch of other good things. I also like that the main theme of her movie is women helping women heal from trauma, particularly trauma inflicted by men. At least, that's my reading of it. I cried so hard when she helped Te Fiti not by fighting her, but by loving her! That's such a beautiful message to send to kids and everyone else 😭
The second Ariel looks like she's going to prom in 2015 lmaoo

That's a great perspective to look at Moana with! I also loved that the solution at the end of the day wasn't violence. Very refreshing ♥️

I love the second Tiana and the Mulan. I think something similar to this line for the Tinkerbell girlies would be awesome, but I don't really follow Disney dolls closely so I'm not sure if Tinkerbell dolls are common at all?

      @FaeryTaleDolls  Před rokem +2

I am far from a Disney expert, but I would say Tinkerbell dolls are not uncommon, but far less common than the princess ones...that said, I would love to see some in this vein!

Pocahontas is absolutely amazing in real life. I haven't seen the movie and I am not a Disney collector. Just in term of the doll, it is gorgeous. I actually happen to have that doll! lol I went to the Disney store to have a look at the ILY dolls and I left the store with Pocahontas reduced to £32.99! Totally unexpected! The doll is stunning in real life. She also has a really beautiful face not too cartoony and not screaming "Disney". I loved Pocahontas so much that I went back and bought Tiana (the first release) for the same reduced price! The doll is also gorgeous. She reminds me of Helen of Troy (lol) or a kind of Olympus Greek Goddess. She also has great hair. Both dolls have "antique Goddess" qualities that I find quite unusual and gorgeous.
I am not a Disney collector. I prefer that the dolls look different than their "usual" self. Obviously, I could not resist the price. I would have never bought them full price.
I am very pleased to have them, especially in so unexpected circumstances.
I also love Merida and Mulan in that series but they did not have them in store. I have seen the pink Aurora in real life too in the store. I did not like her very much. Aurora was still full price.
A special thank you to all the Pocahontas haters (apparently, there were many!). Without you I would not have this gorgeous doll in my collection for this bargain price!

I enjoyed your opinions on the Disney Designer Collection Ultimate Princess Celebration series of dolls. I have all 15, and I have been collecting the Disney Store's annual Designer doll series since they started in 2011 with the original Disney Designer Princess Collection. Overall, my thoughts on this most recent designer doll collection is that it was very ambitious, and they had some hits, a lot of misses, and quite a few near-hits.
The evolution of the designer dolls has been a roller coaster. In 2011, the concept was to take the iconic princess looks and transform them through a 1950s-1960s high fashion lens. It was clean, but a little simple for a lot of people (one has to also remember that it was the Disney Store's first venture into this sort of thing, and the retail price point was only $59.50 each). Then in 2012, they took six villains and ran them through a "what if a high fashion runway were inspired by the villains" theme. These were well-received mostly (we won't talk about the Ursula doll), but the quantities were over-produced at 13k units each. The next few years from 2013-2017 introduced more characters by pairing princesses with their romantic interests, princesses and their villains, and then a random year that celebrated specific scenes from a handful of Disney animated films. These produced well-crafted and pretty dolls, but they were all really just in gussied up versions of their regular outfits, so there was really no new fashion element to them. 2018 was the Premiere Collection, which went back to reimagining the Princesses' iconic looks, but this time as if they were attending the movie premieres of their own films, in the year that the film was released. This was a fun collection. 2019 and 2020 were the Midnight Masquerade, which had some hits, but also had its share of questionable choices. Then came the Ultimate Princess Celebration series of 2021-2022, which is a really fun idea, but I think it suffered from not having a strong enough connecting thread between all of the dolls to reign in and fine tune what was being produced. I think the idea behind it was something like: "What if the Princesses went to an event like the Met Gala? What would they wear?" So, as in real life, each princess had a different designer, and the end result is that we do have 15 very different looks, but they do not look like they are all attending the same event. Some needed an edit here and there (usually needing the removal of something), and others really missed the mark to capture the essence of the princess (yes, I am looking at Rapunzel and Briar Rose). One thing I did not like about this series is that the overall color tone of these dolls is dark and muted instead of cheerful and vibrant. I did buy some extras of more than half of them, which I have redressed and/or restyled, and I really love them.

Even though I see how Cinderella can look older, I do love this outfit on her. It is very elegant and regal. Cinderella is kind of Disney's centerpiece princess so when I think Disney princess or royalty I think Cinderella, so the outfit being so mature but elegant makes sense to me.

I was expecting you to rank them at the end 😂 I actually agree with the majority of your thoughts except on the Ariels!
Jasmine - I loved this doll. As more dolls were released she did drop down my rankings a bit but is still one of the stronger dolls. She looks gorgeous and I love the red
Pocahontas - Like the hair and compass inspired belt but that is literally it.
Ariel - What did they do to you? 😭 Overall I like the colours and elements but she looks NOTHING like Ariel and why does she suddenly have baby hairs? Gutted because I love Ariel and was convinced I would get this one.
Mulan - Wow! I'm not a Mulan fan but wow wow wow. The designer knew what they were doing with this one! I'm honestly shocked that she's still in stock on the Disney website because this one is gorgeous.
Tiana - Tiana looks stunning. I like the gold, not really a fan of the bottom of her dress but such a stunning face. Love the hair, hair piece and cape. Beautiful.
Aurora - Another beautiful one. I'm not an Aurora fan so this one didn't intrest me but I love what they did with the pink and blue.
Merida - Another Mulan situation for me. Not a Merida fan but the designer went all out for this one! Keeping her Scottish roots with the tartan and giving her pants. Perfect for Merida!
Moana - Another letdown. I love Moana and I like the ruffled skirt and get what they were going for but hate the top part of the dress and the manta ray backing should have been more of a statement piece.
Snow White - Not sure what to say about this one. I'm not a Snow white fan, It's certainly elegant but not my style at all.
Rapunzel - Another of my fave princesses and another let down :( She's beautiful but what on earth is going on with this busy busy poofy poofy dress?
Cinderella - I actually really like this dress but do agree she looks alot older. I feel like she's giving Lady Tremaine-esque vibes only Cinderella-fied.
Belle - Another fave princess. I love the dome part of the dress but something is throwing me off - I *think* it's the earrings and I do think it would be better if the print was only on the top part of her dress but she's still in stock. If she goes on sale, I may buy her.
Aurora 2: I do like the dress but this one feels more like a mash up of Aurora and Rapunzel or someone disneybounding RAPUNZEL.
Tiana 2: This one is really NOT my style but she's well designed. The desingers definetly knew what they were doing with Tiana.
Ariel 2: FINALLY! This is the Ariel we deserved. While she may not be perfect, I do love the dress and at least she actually looks like Ariel!
I would say my top 5 are Ariel 2, Mulan, Merida, Jasmine, Belle

I’m not a Disney person so I wasn’t tempted. But I do like some of the designs, I just don’t like the cartoony faces tbh. 😅 I thought both Tiana dolls were STUNNING. Jasmine and Belle were gorgeous. And Cinderella was just ok. You’re right tho, the Rapunzel doll was the worst one. I’m indigenous but I didn’t mind the Pocahontas doll. I’m just happy she’s still getting dolls tbh 😅 growing up we were aware her movie was problematic and incorrect, but I never got to see princesses who looked like me so I was obsessed with her anyway.

Yeah, I do know there are a lot of different opinions about Pocahontas! I can definitely understand wanting to see dolls that represent different ethnicities. The issue of should there be Pocahontas dolls or not is definitely not one I feel I have a place being involved in, I mostly just didn't like this one because I felt like the European influence was really weird but that's just me 😅

    • @darklight4251
      @darklight4251 Před rokem +1

I don't think this doll has European influences. I find more "mythological" qualities to it. It is funny how we view and interpret things differently. It is really a gorgeous doll. I was amazed when I first saw her in the shop. I never seen any pictures or any reviews before seeing her. I don't collect expensive Disney dolls. Completely fresh view.

I was okay with Jasmine when I saw her as like you said, we never see her in anything except blue or purple.Pocahontas’s design reminded me of her dress in her sequel which is very very yikes to me. Ooooo I love your idea of Ariel having high low dress! Yes I think Mulan was the first really really strong one in this line. The first Tiana doll definitely is a strong design as well! YES! Blue dress superiority! I love love love the back panels of Aurora’s overskirt! I love the movie Brave for all the reasons you stated and I love all the details of this Merida doll. I seem to be one of the only ones who likes the Moana doll 😂 but I can understand your points about her. I like the Snow White doll except for the ruffled collar of the cape (to me, it’s just too ruffly). THANK YOU for not liking Rapunzel!! I showed several of my friends her pic thinking they wouldn’t like her either but thought she was gorgeous so it was just me in my lonesome for a while which is sooo sad since she’s my favorite princess too (my husband was happy because it meant we weren’t spending money ;) I never cared much for Cinderella until I saw the live action Cinderella-I love that version of Cinderella. You have pinpointed my problem with Belle-because I was thinking she almost looked amazing but something was off. I don’t think the colors and silhouette works for Aurora either, so confusing! I understood what you meant about Aurora not standing out, and it’s okay that your brain left your body!! There are a lot of Disney princesses and I know you also really like Ariel 😊 I love love LOVE the second version of Tiana, if she’s still available in late February, maybe maybe I’ll buy her as I think she is stunning but $130 is a lot that could go to other dolls but I think she’s so gorgeous. I think the second version of Ariel looks more like what I would expect for her but she just does look like something is missing. Oh interesting you thought this was Hasbro. I wonder if they’re going to take a longer time to develop the next line of limited edition disney dolls. Yes it was Darling Dollz that said that 😄

The jasmine doll is really cool overall real solid design. For Pocahontas I think the dress is great and I don't see a problem with it as native and European people's clashing and coming together was the entire plot of the movie. Also both real and movie Pocahontas married a European and went to Europe. I don't think it's possible to separate the character from that combination. I actually don't like this Ariel doll. The shiny skin looks terrible and the dress...well I'm not sure what's it's giving but it isn't fitting little mermaid for me. The headpiece is especially for me it's looks more norse freya vibes wth. Mulans is beautiful, I'd just make the pants wider and flowier. More traditionally accurate and would look great. The Tiana dress is super neat I wish I cud see this up closer and a full front view. The Aurora doll is gorgeous 😍. 135? Damn ok NONE of these dolls shud be 135 no wonder ur showing images and not the dolls themselves. Hey Aurora is one of my favs too. I think it's becuz the character was just nice and set on what she wanted enough but had one of the best movies to star in overall. Hoooooly shit I love this Merida is think it's spectacular. The Moana dress is great but the head is too empty. In Moana we even see the beautiful headpieces she wears during the movie and not incorporating any of that is where it feels lacking. Wooow snow white is the queen now lol. It's almost like they incorporated some of the prince into her outfit and are trying to establish that snow white is the queen of Disney princesses (she is). I hate this rapunzel doll. Hair is wrong color and dress looks more Bambi themed then anything else. This is coming from someone who does like Rapunzel at all if that helps. Cinderella is ok but the bun placement I think is what makes her look so wrong. Needs another layer in the skirt it looks empty there. Now hang on Cinderella did NOT get rescued by the prince she fought to try to break out on her own and got rescued by her animal friends. Giving belle a rose dress is cool but the design they gave her feels like they're already repeating tiana. Like that's skirt silhouette is too specific a ball gown wud have been better cuz at least that's generic enough to not feel like its riffing on another design. This second Aurora is ok if it was like $30 instead, like this wud be ok if I just wasn't in THIS line. THIS Tiana helps recontextualize the previous Tiana. Like first one was based on her wedding dress and this one loosely follows her ending dress it's also neat. I like this Ariel better it's fits more but they cudve done better like this is again just ok.
Ok so many of these shud never have been that price it's absurd. Maybe that Merida had enough going on to be worth that price point and some others were a bit close but I'm disgusted at how simpler some of the others were at that price definitely not buying (can't anyways).

I like the first Ariel and the first Tiana. I think they are so pretty. Overall, the dolls aren’t close enough to who they are supposed to be for me. Sleeping Beauty is usually my favorite princess, but her doll in this series, makes me 😞. I won’t be buying any of these most likely.
