    • @MelMelodyWerner
      @MelMelodyWerner Před 3 lety +26

      I haven't listened to enough Paramore, but Deftones is an excellent pick. some of the best music post-2000, period--not to mention godly singing that's unique to Chino and their mix of majesty + sleaze give plenty to talk about--but also enough highs and lows that there's plenty of contrast across their discography. it's not a spotless discog where every take is "this is top-notch". my personal favorites are White Pony (duh) and Diamond Eyes.

      @BewaretheCherryWaves Před 3 lety +9

      I thought it was a very well adapted show! Keeps the original energy of the songs, as the band had a big hand in the creation. but adds musical theater elements (vocal harmony arrangments) that heighten the impact.

      @nintendonut100 Před 2 lety +4

      It has some narrative problems (mainly just that it's a bit broad and isn't terribly well defined narratively), but it's a damn good show nontheless. The narrative is functional enough, and the music is great, the arrangements are brilliant, and it has loads of energy.

And Tre Cool and Mike more than kept up with that energy.

      i saw GD both on their Revolution Radio tour and on Hella Mega Tour. i've seen more small venue shows than stadium/arena shows by this point, and i strongly prefer them because of how much more crowd interaction there is, both between performers and crowd members and between crowd members and other crowd members. but Billie Joe just knows how to make a stadium show fun! and Mike and Tre can not only keep up with Billie Joe, but their stellar live playing actually enhances BJ's energy. Green Day is probably the only legacy band i'd even consider getting arena show tickets for anymore, let alone AGAIN. all members of Green Day have more energy at 50+ than i do at 22 lmao. and entertaining a crowd that's already several hours into a concert is NOT easy. Green Day is seriously one of the best bands i've ever seen live, their shows only rank below certain small venue shows for me because of the cool shit that happens at small venues (like literally getting to mosh with the singer; KennyHoopla, for anyone wondering, i highly recommend him!).
      if you like Green Day and you like concerts, go see them next tour. you WILL NOT regret it!

    I really appreciate how you framed Green Day's exploration into more radio friendly sounds as "experimentation". I takes a lot of conviction, commitment and creativity to be able to break away from your established sound and figure out how it works in a poppier way. So many bands fail at it and lose what made them special in the first place. Bands don't get enough credit when they "sell out" successfully, but Green Day managed it.

    Green Day's 'Holiday' was one of the first secular songs I was exposed to as a child raised in a Christian home. Although I scratch my head at their seemingly immature direction these days, I have tremendous appreciation for their impact on me as a young teen. I can't seem to decide if they are ever really deserving of the hate they get, but it was refreshing to hear a positive take from someone who isn't a 'born le wrong generation' type.

Even in my Green Day heyday of late 2000s to the early tens I didn't know about this and when I discovered it I thought it was something made recently.

    I saw American Idiot the musical in 2010 and I thought it was incredible. The way that they portrayed Wake Me Up When September Ends with the light and projectors that made it look like papers (and bodies) falling from the sky...I was sobbing. Plus if you hear more recent versions of it, Billie does change the line from "Twenty years have gone so fast" to "forty years" when it comes to the death of his father. I got chills when I heard it live late last year and it's still the main thing I think about when I am asked about the concert.
    My personal order of GD albums to listen to would be AI, Warning, Nimrod, 21st Century Breakdown, Rev Rad, and then Tre (personally Tre became my favorite album out of the trilogy). Also give a listen to the Broadway cast recording of American Idiot. The orchestrations on some songs bring new light into them.

    Love this!... however I’m BOUND to disagree with you as a huge fan, so here’s my opinion on all their albums:
    39/Smooth (1039..)- I mean, you weren’t wrong at all, its sure is PRIMITIVE, but it’s got some very good ideas and you can see the potential, but I wouldn’t personally return to it.
    Best Song- Going To Pascalqua
    Kerplunk- I’m going to say every album by them that isn’t well loved is underrated, but this album is legit great, and has some of their most consistent hooks and great instrumentation (this consistently in bops is something seen in all their 90s output)
    Best songs- 2000 Light Years Away, Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, One of My Lies
    Dookie- Classic, but everyone knows that.
    Best songs- Burnout, Having A Blast, the singles (hot take?)
    Insomniac- Funnily enough, AS GOOD as Dookie, it’s so fucking ferocious and angry it’s definitely a vibe worth diving into.
    Best Tracks- Stuck With Me, 86, Bran Stew/Jaded (can’t be seperated), Panic Song, Tight Wad Hill
    Nimrod- One of their best albums, and while it’s a deviation from their normal sound, MY GOD it’s some of the best pop punk EVER MADE.
    Best tracks- ...Can’t pick only a few? (King For A Day and Haushinka are legit amazing)
    Warning- I could say this is their best album and every song and risk they take absolutely works, and I’d be correct (except for the best album part it gets hard man they have multiple classics)
    Best Tracks- The whole album, but especially Castaway, Hold On, Church On Sunday, Waiting and MACYS DAY PARADE (legit their best slow song)
    American Idiot- ..of course this is my favorite album of theirs ITS MY CHILDHOOD DAMNIT
    Best Tracks- All of them, but the two 9 minute songs are their best songs period.
    21st Century Breakdown- No, it isn’t as tight as American Idiot, but has some of their best songs separated from the album (I also think it’s politics are better written weirdly enough)
    Best Tracks- Peacemaker, Murder City, East Jesus Nowhere, American Eulogy
    The whole Trilogy- would make one great album, kinda “eh” as 30 songs.
    Best tracks- Let Yourself Go, Stray Heart, Nuclear Family, Lazy Bones
    RevRad- a legit great “comeback” album that I hold a lot of sentimental value for.
    Best Tracks- Forever Now, Bouncing Of The Wall, Still Breathing
    Father Of All- Fantano should be questioned for thinking this was worse than FUCKING SOUTHSIDE, but it’s still not great, even if it has some solid moments
    Best Tracks- Meet Me On The Roof, Sugar Youth
