ADDITIONAL REVIEW NOTES:
First off, these are $200 which is significantly cheaper than most flagship headphones, yet these compete in every aspect. Great ANC, Mics, comfort, app, and design
But let’s start off with that… the design
DESIGN
Pretty simple and understated
Black, Forest Gray, and White
Comes with a hardshell case
Simple aesthetic much like the old WH-1000XM3 headphones
Very lightweight plastic design
Appearance is a bit bulky for my liking
Comfort is great! My ears definitely get warm in the fake leather, but not too bad, and the clamping force is nice and gentle. Deep cups and plush cushions
Fit test - level 1 running = good, level 2 pushups = good, level 3 burpees = not secure enough
WEIGHT COMPARISON WITH OTHER HEADPHONES
Now like I said, these are $200 and for some reason, the $200 pricepoint is wildly competitive this year. I’m working on a best headphones under $200 this year so get subscribed if you want to see a comparison between these, the Beats Solo, Sennheiser Accentum Plus, Soundcore, and others.

Mega bass. The bass eclipses a lot. They sound dark and even dull. Instruments such as a snare sound less crisp. The bass is big and boomy.
And that’s just the regular mode. Let’s talk about the ULT button
But if your favorite song is Dazed and Confused or Yonkers or something and you just really want the bassline to rattle your skull, these are your headphones.

What should I compare these to?
How about the XB910N? I think this will be interesting since there are a lot of similarities, like the extra bass. Cheers!
Skullcandy anc 2 just because of the bass
Sony xm3 or 4
can u please review the oneplus buds 3, they are a good pair
Sony XM4's cause they both at a similar price range.
It's incredibly important to mention that the ULT button settings are ALL USER DEFINED. Nobody should make the mistake of assuming that "ULT2 is really overwhelming bass!" It's actually... whatever you set ULT2 to be. By default, yes, out of the box, it is Clear Bass +10. But if you want it to be +6, it can be. If you want it to be +4, it can be. If you want it to be +1, it can be. The button is essentially a physical way of toggling between the Off/ULT1/ULT2 three customizable presets, without needing to always go into the app to change it. You're not stuck with ULT1 and ULT2 as two fixed bass boost options, with ULT2 being overly excessive. That's not accurate (but it's how virtually every review I've seen on CZcams tends to describe it). You can customize each of them, and it's probably the most important feature of this Sony model. Anyone thinking of getting these, understand how customizable the bass presets for the ULT button are. You'd have to always be going into the app on XM4 or XM5 to adjust the bass.
can the ULT button be customised for other modes as well, or just the bass alone?
Thank you for clarifying that, most people don't know you can customize what ClearBass level you want it to be at!
Wow This is it!!! I will Order it to Replace My Previous XB910N. I Love Wireless Headphone with Heavy Bass Yay!!!
✌🏻😍✌🏻
Looking forward to the $200 review - can you add JBL 770NC to that list Mike?
I've always wanted to know what GENRE of music these reviewers listen to. If it's Rock, classical, acoustic etc, they won't appreciate lots of Bass. If it's Pop, R&B, Hip Hop or anything electronic, bass you can feel is what many buyers are after.
I always ask this same thing, it'd help to better inform viewers for sure. But I think for reviewers, they review enough headphones to know if the bass is bloated or not even if they listen to more bassy music. If you like bassier genres of music there's a big difference between bloated bass and clean bass
Basically, the company does not force anyone. It is dedicated to BASS heads. It will oblige those who do not like them to buy the XM4 or XM5.
Amen!
I have the ULT WEAR paird with my Sony Xperia 5 iii and eq set as close to the WH-1000XM5 as possible with ULT 1 Clear Bass 6 and they sound amazing. The phone does come with 360 audio free and ive been able to watch movies that sound like your at the cinema i can say the 360 audio i find is most of the time better on id say using them with a Sony device is is much better sounding than other brands.
So I know the Beats Studio Pro are $350 MSRP, but they are almost always on sale for sub $200. Can you throw that into the mix? Also, the one thing I care about above all else is long term comfort. I bought some Anker headphones a while back that I had to donate to a friend because they felt like they were squeezing my head to a pulp.
a little out of topic, but check out the new Marshall minor IV, for some reason it's just recently launched but went under the radar especially with the Nothing ear being introduced on the same week
Great video. Yess, i would like to see it compared to the Sennheiser Momentum 4. Which one has a better bass, transparancy and ANC?
diffrent price tag
I have tried both and senheiser is on a different league. Sony ult has insane bass almost to level which you don't actually need but at the cost of some sound quality. Even the songs with bass falls flat when it comes to the feel. Senheiser has insane audio quality. For transparency and anc Sony edges by a little.
Sounds like a great successor for my Sony XB950B1 that I have had to keep together with super glue due to the plastic construction disintegrating over time but still sound great
if u need to upgrade these are the next best. (god i miss my xb950s) i have bought 3 pairs of 300+ sony "flagship" headphones including these ult ones and none even come close to 950s.
thanks for the feedback on this...much appreciated
Hi, i think it would be interesting to compare this ULT wear with Skullcandy crusher 2 anc, i've got both and they are very pleasant for watch movies and listen sort of music...thanks for your test 🙏
My favorite song is Axol x Alex Skrindo - You [Extreme Decaf + Slowed], which has a lot of bass, so I will have to try the headphones out with this song and switch between the ULT modes.
I've been using my Crusher Evo for the past 3.5 years. It still works fine. All good with a new ear pad. The battery is magnificent.
The simulated bass of Crusher is too much. Hence I'm using my own EQ curve in Poweramp EQ, further with keeping the Crusher bass slider at 15%.
And I hate the sound staging of Crusher Evo. I don't feel the staging is decent in Crusher.
But recently I started noticing this ULT, XM4 and XM5. Now I'm curious to know the bass difference between both.
I actually don't know if I'm missing out any overall better sounding headphones with decent bass as I haven't looked for an alternative all these 3.5 years with my Crusher Evo.
Can you use the ANC with a wire without turning on the Bluetooth connection?
Compare it to the Bose QC45 as there are similarly priced in general!!
So this is basically the evolution of the XB950, finally!
No sorry, these are the evolution of the xb900n
@@fronf i would say theyre equal to xb900n but no where near close to the coveted perfection that is the xb950b1s
Great review as always!
bot
Yes. Sony ditched the product code naming scheme.
are they trying to be the Next Skullcandy? I hope everyone tries the monstrosity, the Skull candy Crushers were - they literally had separate powered drivers to only and only produce bass, and they would vibrate on your head. They took extra bass and turned it up to an 11. Now my audio preference is dead flat with my Hifiman headphones but the skullcandys were something else
not everyone wanna have a vibrator on their head
He said these are the bassiest headphones he ever seen. Must not have seen many headphones. Ck-129, alpine, betron retro have fantastic bass.
Can anyone tell me if these would be a good upgrade from the first gen AirPod Pros?
Solid review mike. Could you also review wired headphones? I think more people are coming back to those
I own senheiser momentun 4 and in my case they sound better when wireless where you can use the equalizer. When used with cable they sound too flat and a bit harsh in general
Had these for 2 months. The plastic on this ,starts making cracking noises when u move your head. 😂 ,still love it
Should I buy these headphones if I hate bass? I love the design of these headphones, they are fordable and have much better ANC than wh-ch720 but will I be able to turn all the bass off? I can't affort xm4 or xm5 and don't like 720 that much either...
I'd suggest the Sennheiser Accentum if you hate bass. 🫡
You need some JBL or Bose
You can lower the bass to your liking but if you're not a fan of bass at all even a bit then don't get these they have pretty hefty bass even low
Great video! I would like to see them compared with the Soundcore Q45s and the Earfun Wave Pros.
Edit: Did that book say "How To Teach Yourself Banjo"? 😂
Yep. I sat down to film a b-roll shot there and that was the book that happened to be next to me. Fun fact though - I did actually learn banjo last year.
Do these have more bass than the skull candy anc 2?
No but the sony's give real bass. The anc 2's give you fake bass.
I have these. My Soundcore Life Q10 by Anker, yes, ANKER the battery bank brand, have more bass than these headphones when you press the "Bass Up" button (like the ULT button here). They even look and feel better. And I got them for $30 on Amazon about 5 years ago when they were on sale. For reference, I own Sony MX5s, Bose QCs, Sennheisers, the notorious Skullcandy crushers, Beats by Dre, Harmon Kardon, etc. Other great brands I love include Audio Technica and Bang and Olufsen. So I've hear a lot of different headphones with EQ settings and those meant for bass. The $30 Soundcore's have more bass than these $200 headphones.
Don't lie. I had the q10 and now i have the ults. I hated the q10 because of very low volume. They have bass, yes, but even the xb910 had more bass, so claiming that the q10 have more bass that the sony ults is laughable. Besides, the sony have a more refined sound, ldac and noise cancellation. Q10 only have aac and sbc
@@petermurage8685 nope not lying at all. Q10s have absolutely more bass than these pieces of junk. Is the sound quality as good? Of course not ..maybe you had a defective pair.
@@RGrant2504 i had the q10i
Well your certainly entitled to your opinion & I don't think you're lying but I absolutely do not agree with you on this, I would venture to say you're in the minority on this one..... the bass is very clean & well done, and the sound, comfort & look are much closer to the XM4s than the price difference. Soundcore is fine & all but they are not Sony by any stretch...
@@JConner1864 yup I’m only going off of my experience. Maybe I got a defective Ult Wear even. I prefer my skullcrushers the most with the sensory bass, followed by Sennheisers followed by Ankers followed by the Ult Wear. Sound quality is a whole ‘nother story but just going off bass alone thats my opinion
I tried them on and they’re sooo bulky, looked huge on my head
Let's gooo
The microphone was great in my idea
Wich sound better, these or the XM5?
i dont have the xm5 but i do have the ULT wears and they sound amazing! pretty sure there are other comparison vids out there that you can watch.
I have both and the XM5s sound wayyyyyy better because of the better soundstage and instrument separation. Also, you need to EQ the Ult wear to sound good else its not a match for the XM5
Hi @@nanaasante2175. Could you give a comparison on the ANC? And can we EQ the Ult to be as good as the XM5?
@@namikazeminato7782 With noise cancellation they’re almost the same but XM5 has the slight edge. I had to try them multiple times to notice that difference. In terms of transparency the XM5s are noticeably better. I hear myself a lot better with the XM5s.
You can make the Ult Wear sound better than it already does but I personally have not been able to tweak the EQ to sound as good or on par with the XM5s. The XM5s sound wider and crisper, and the vocals are able to cut through the instruments a lot better. It makes the Ult wear sound compressed. Also the Ult wear has more bass but I prefer the bass on the XM5 more.
This is the EQ I’m currently using. 400- +2, 1k- +3, 2.5k- +4, 6.3k- +10, 16k- 0 (ULT 1- 0). I usually find myself changing the Eq every time I pickup the headphones.
I understand all of the reviews saying that these headphones have a lot of bass, but what no one is mentioning is: Is it good QUALITY bass? Does it sound like cheap sub woofers or decent sub woofers?
Decent subwoofer. Not like my svs 3000 pro which is 1200 dollars. But decent for casual stuff. Good experience with noise cancelling
I'd be curious how they compare with the wh-1000xm4. I had compared the mx4 and mx5 and didn't notice a significant difference so I never upgraded. I do love bass though but feel like the 1000xm models already have great bass.
Great BASS in XM4/5 really ??? Wait until you experience BASS from ULT WEAR and thanks to XM series microprocessor it can also be tuned to sound exactly like XM4/5
I just bought them and returned them.. all these reviews make it seem like they have big deep bass.. but.. it’s more like middleweight bass rather than heavyweight.. sad to say but my crusher evos had better bass.. and went louder
Crushers have fake bass. These do not. But yeah crushers have more bass for sure.
Let me ask yall this. I have crusher evos but I want bass on a similar level without shakers and a bit more audio clarity. I can’t decide if I should try these or the crusher anc 2.
Or if there’s a better option for bass and LOUD. I hate how quiet all of these BT headphones are.
@@MotoFreak37 There are no headphones with similar bass to the anc crushers while also maintaining audio clarity. That's because the crushers use trickery like haptic feedback to increase the sense of bass. Other headphones do not do this.
Personally I bought the ULTs a month ago and while not as bass heavy as the anc crushers (because they have fake bass) they are definitely a step up from the flagship XM3 headphones from Sony that I own and also carry a lot more detail in the sound compared to the anc crushers. With some EQ tuning you can make it sound somewhat close to the audio profile of the flagship XM3/4.
And I'm not even mentioning the fact that the ANC on Sony headphones is a lot better than that of the anc crushers. Sony has always been the best when it comes to ANC.
cool video dear
Does it beat skull candy 360 in bass?
Skull candy produces artificial bass not real bass
This or the crusher anc 2 boys (for the gym) i love listening to music too
My favourite audio in 3 2 1
👌
I loved the design and comfort of these, but they just didn’t sound good to me, which was a shame. Back to the Bose QC 2023.
for what its worth i have this exact tshirt
honestly all these good headphones have 3.5mm but all the new phones dont sad
Ult Wear > XM4
Sony ult vs bose qc45
They remind me of my WHXB900N.. which died just after 3 years... and they become $160 wasted dollars... 3 years of light use I should clarify... so no, no more sony headphones
That’s why i only use wired headphones lol. Any pair of wired headphones, whether it be an ATH-M50x or a DT770 Pro or a Sennheiser HD569 pair of headphones is a MUCH better purchase decision than any pair of muddy boomy and bassy Sony headphones, ESPECIALLY when talking about sound quality. Those 3 headphones I mentioned are MUCH more reliable and natural.
Your complaining about three years that fuck*** impressive grow tf up
Great video Mike! Love the Ult.... the color "Forest Grey" a deep luxurious grey/green with more than a breath of mystery (Google)
First time? How the fuck you've never heard of Skullcandy Crusher line up?
