    Harley stage-one air intake on your Harley Davidson motorcycle. This will *save you money* by not having to take your Harley to a mechanic. You can do this yourself right on the kickstand in your garage or on your patio! This is a video by bikers for bikers.
    One of the first things you can to to your Harley Davidson after buying it is to install a stage-one air intake. It is one of the cheaper yet effective things you can do to improve performance and horsepower. The stock air intakes tend to not allow enough air flow, which manufacturers of production motorcycles must do to stay within federal emissions regulations to sell these bikes.
    After you make alterations to a motorcycle air intake system by opening is up and letting it breath better, you will need to re-map your electronic fuel injection (EFI) for the motor to run properly. You can really tune your EFI with aftermarket tuners. This is a great way to gain power and performance and you will definitely notice. We have tutorial videos and everything you need to know about EFI tuners and tuning your motorcycle.

    I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who had issues with the O-rings on the outside of the back plate. I thought maybe I didn't do something right since I'm not a mechanic, but I did the same thing you did...basically holding a small tool and "guiding" them to wear they would be once tightened.

    • @charlesdavid5137
      @charlesdavid5137 Před 7 lety +1

      Chris Kirkman I had pretty good luck coating the o rings with a little petroleum jelly before installation. As you tighten the bolts the rings would automatically center in the grooves.

    Ryan < I couldn`t get the crank breather bolt o rings to set right. So I used a little Silicone Grease so they would stay put. Worked great. Just thought I would post what worked for me. Of course silicone grease doesn`t hurt o rings. It is actually good for them . from what I`m told. Thanks for all thr videos. It has helped me out many times.

    For the tank, just undo the rear bolts, loosen the front, pick up the back and stick a couple rags under it. Saves a bit of timr

    Mr. Urlacher,I just wanted to say thank you for all your informative videos. I just bought my first HOG last month (2016 Road King) and these videos really help. Also, I just wanted to point something out in case anyone is doing the Screaming Eagle Stage 1 on their Road King. There is one more wire harness on the front of the tank that needs to be removed prior to tank removal. It's on the left side (fuel line side). Also, there is only one breather hose under the tank instead of two, along with the other wire harness that needs to be disconnected. Thanks again,Lenny

    Hi Ryan
    Spent all my Sunday watching your very informative videos and your rides out with the boys..
    Just had to comment and thank you for your great work. I've just got back to a Harley Dyna after a few years on a sports bike , it was the best move i've ever made. I'm from England and to tell you the truth more and more people are turning back to cruisers, be it Harley's or other makes.. And the price of them over here isn't dropping , in fact its going up ... I would love to drive on your roads they look fantastic and the scenery is amazing.
    Thanks again Ryan

    I'm late to this party, just got my first touring bike, a 2014 SGS. I'll be installing the Screamin' Eagle Ventilator kit this weekend, and I wanted to see the process. Didn't want to have to take the tank off but it looks easy enough. Thanks!!

  • @pccoder

    Wish I'd seen this video yesterday. :) I installed this same exact kit. I did NOT remove the tank. And you sir are correct. It was a pain in the ass. I spent over 10 minutes just removing those 2 bolts on the top of the bracket. It's not just the location, but they were in there TIGHT! However; I'm in-experienced and didn't want to be removing my tank. I think the time I spent on the bolts would have probably equated to the time spent removing the tank, etc. Anyway...great video, and evidently I installed the kit correctly!

    Thanks for the video Ryan! Been looking at a couple of intakes from a couple of brands to buy for my bike, but one thing that has refrained me from doing so is that I ride in the rain. I heard about the rain socks, but not too confident that it will sustain heavy rain/downpour. Some of the people I talked to only bring up on riding through showers and what not and not heavy rain or constant rain. Anyways thanks again I appreciate these helpful videos.

    Ryan, thanks for the help. This video made it super easy to install the SE Stage 1 air intake. I do have a question though. After I got the FP3 linked and the intake installed, the FP3 never really asked me anything about the intake. I started the Auto Tune and went for a really long ride. After transferring the map I didn't get a chance to take her out again because it was down pouring. I did however fire her up. I noticed that when twisting the throttle it would stumble and cut out with a slight pop. Do I need to let it idle for a period of time for the Auto Tune to capture idle information?

    • @rkksterbigd1
      @rkksterbigd1 Před 8 lety +1

      The FP3 maps already assume you are putting a high flow filter on them Greg. If you go into demo mode you can look at your map and you will see it accounts for that. I personally did not need to do an auto tune with my HD Screaming Eagle intake and Vance and Hines exhaust. They already do that for you and if you look a the FAQ page you'll see where they discuss that. However, if using non listed exhaust of slip on's the auto tune is helpful. If you are still in auto tune mode it will run not as good. V&H discusses this in there FAQ page on the app. It says you need to ride a tank of gas through it and periodically hit apply which puts the learned values into the machine. When all done finalize it. It is not recommended to stay in auto tune because in that mode it actually de-tunes a bit to learn new values. Check out the FAQ page and they explain it there really well. Rick from LAB.

      +Rick "Big Daddy" Kane ...thanks so much. I'm still a little green but I think I've found an issue. I bought some really cheap Chinese slip ons thinking they're all the same, right? Wrong! After installing a decent set of slip ons and tuning it, it became abundantly apparent that the cheap pipes didn't have enough back pressure. She runs like a scalded ape now.

I just brought the Stage 1, planned to change it out myself on a 2016 HD Street Glide with Rinehart Racing Chrome 3 Slip-On Mufflers, was told that I may not have to do the EFI tuning. My question is can I do the Stage 1 now and do the tuning at a later date; maybe in about another 1000 miles or so, I will be due for my 5000 mile oil change then? What is the risk of not doing the tuning right after the stage 1?

    Isn't the HD Stage 1 air cleaner made by K&N, requiring an oil coating (although they come pre-oiled)?

    • @bigguylasro
      @bigguylasro Před 5 lety

      You are correct, but Ryan was installing the Screamin’ Eagle kit that’s made by HD. They use a dry paper filter instead of the surgical grade cotton that the K&N filters have.

    Hi Ryan, I have a question for you. I have a 1992 fxlr low rider custom in stage 2. I would like to put a different air intake. I am interested in the one from Milwaukee-Eight screaming eagle. Will it be possible to install it on my 1340?

    What's the advantage of installing a stage 1 air filter?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  Před 7 lety +2

      More air into the motor, which allows more fuel equalling more horsepower. Open up the exhaust at the same time and your set.

      Hey Ryan, I went with the Harley Stage one. Following your video really helped the process, however I didn't take off the gas tank completely (wish I did). Didn't scratch anything, but ended up taking much more time. Also installed the V&H Monster Rounds. Do you guys suggest also using the Power Duals? I wasn't able to find anything on your site about that. What are your guys thoughts?
      Thanks,

      @@RyanUrlacher Okay, I've seen the install process and even ran through the demo of the fp3. My question is more of a technicality. Do I have to get my bike's ecm flashed to reflect an HD part that didnt come stock, as stock? I ask this because I dont see a intake selection for tuning purposes, I only see the exhaust, which is going to be vance and hines shortstops staggered.

    Hey Ryan I have a question about the stage kits, I have a sportster 1200 and want to get some good upgrades for it do the Harley stage kits work for all Harley davidsons? Or do I need to take a different approach to upgrade the power of my 1200?

    • @rkksterbigd1

      HD makes Stage 1 kits for the Sportster. Power really starts at air, exhaust and fuel tuner. We offer Vance and Hines products in our store. www.lawabidingbiker.com/store The V&H VO2 Naked Air intake is our favorite. RK
