Most of the best skaters don't hit full-stride until they're in their early-to-mid 20s. What is even going to be left for him at that point?
I cant even fathom where he will be by then. Skateboarding in general is already insane and there is still room for progression. Look at it compared to the other extreme sports, they all seem to be capped out or close to it.
Honestly there is so much potential for NBDs that i cant see where the top out will be!

TheZietgiest Whats funny? Its true. Looks at wake boarding. How is that going to progress any further? Its all been done. Snowboarding i see progression of street obstacles, lot of potential there. By in the mountains, the biggest spin/flip is close to the limit. In park they have run out of variety so people start taking off their binding doing no complys or flips with their board. With i think is just silly. You get what I'm saying?

One thing that I’ve learned from this “skater of the year” thing, is that tricks don’t matter. If you don’t dress up like a homeless person or a head banger, don’t use a song everyone likes, don’t use Fish Eye lenses and your video part is not published by Thrasher, you won’t qualify for SOTY no matter how gnarly your tricks are. If you have all those “qualities” but only do boardslides/feeblegrinds/180flips/front50-50 down some set of stairs or gaps on your video part, you have a much bigger chance to win SOTY. A rare case is Chris Joslin that has all those “qualities” and is a gnarly beast somehow never won. Zion have it all and won't qualify either. Nyjah (even tho I don’t like his persona) dropped one of the most insane video part in years and still won’t qualify for SOTY because he doesn’t have “the qualities”, even if I don’t like him I acknowledge his talent and passion and wonder if dressed like Tiago Lemos, used some Iron Maiden song, still had his famous dreads, used fish eye and his part was published by Thrasher they would give him SOTY, because if it was only about gnarly tricks and consistency he would won. At the end of the day people care more about looks than raw talent and consistency, I know that “style matters” but when this is the only thing to judge, then give our boy Sean Malto SOTY already. I miss Chris Cole era, when he had all those qualities and was the gnarliest skateboarder on the scene and people wouldn’t dare to say he didn’t deserve.

The Nyjah part was published thru Thrasher. Your formula doesn't stack up. Way, Cards, Silas, GT, AVE, Ishod and co. don't look like homeless or head bangers, and nobody cares what songs they used or what lens it was filmed through. One thing that does matter IMO is being representative of Phelps' punk, don't give a fuck, 100% skate outlook. Interpret that how you want.

Gotta say skater of the year is literally what it means, “skater of the year”; year being the key word. It’s not a one part thing, it’s who has consistently killed it throughout the year and has stayed present in skating for that year. It’s not about who dropped the gnarliest part and then vanished. Skater of the year is clearly what it states, “skater of the fucking YEAR”
