17 FACTS About John Marston Rockstar Doesn’t Tell You! | Red Dead Redemption 2

  • This took so long for me to make. I hardly ever can find time to upload or make these videos and this one was super challenging. But enough complaining, I hope this found everyone well. Hopefully there’s one or two things here at the very least that you found out about John for the very first time. Trying to find things that I think people might not already know about John Marston was also very challenging than making the video itself. Since he’s been around since 2010 and the series has millions of fans all over the world. But nonetheless a few of these things on the list I never even knew myself until recently and it’s what inspired me to even make this video. A lot of the theories can be found on Reddit such as John’s daughter being named for John’s horse and his blindness and his winter outfits. There are so many Reddit posters that I can’t tell who is the one who made the discovery in the first place for any of these details but I’d look there if you ever want to find out about more things in the game that you might not have known about. #rdr2 #reddeadredemption #arthurmorgan

    Just to help people out, as I can see some people are confused about it. With the part about Arthur keeping both eyes open when aiming down a sight is a sign of being an experienced gunslinger, is in fact very true. If you close one eye, you lose approximately 45% of your peripheral vision. This is the same with both scoped weapons and iron sight. Now, some may think that losing that 45% can't be too bad as you're already aiming at your target, but you can't be any further from being right. Experienced marksmen will keep both eyes open until they're about to shoot in which they (may) close the eye they aren't using to aim down sight with to better help with taking a shot, then open that other eye again, this is because you need to see not just your target, but what's behind your target, around your target, and there are a few atmospheric conditions that you normally need to take into consideration depending on the distance of said target. If you were in a forest per-se, and you know this forest has mountain lions in them (only speaking hypothetical), and you were about to shoot one before it gets you, would you keep both eyes open to see if there's another mountain lion coming to get you, or close one eye to focus on that singular mountain lion? If you say focus on the singular mountain lion, you aren't going back home.
    Hopefully this helps some people with their confusion. If people want to know my experience with firearms, I grew up around guns on a farm, hunted things, received police training and still shoot today.

    These were all super cool (as I expect from your videos). The only one I don't agree with is the blind left eye; it usually depends on the shooter and how they were trained as to whether they close or keep both eyes open whilst aiming. It's usually more common I'd say to close one eye.

    • @WisdomThumbs
      @WisdomThumbs Před rokem +10

      It’s situational and depends on the time period. Modern training emphasizes having both eyes open, but it takes work to get used to that due to the natural inclination toward tunnel vision. It's tempting to assign mechanistic explanations to things when we know a little, but having grown up on a wilderness farm, survived getting blown up a couple times, and studied oldtimers from a variety of professions, let me tell you... There are no absolutes here.
      And in the late 1800s, it was noted by professional lawmen and many eyewitnesses that people who were confident with guns often shot with one eye closed, even if it was their first shootout, because brushes with death came at you often from an early age. That's not even counting the soldiers, because different units trained differently for different purposes.

    Unsure if been commented on before, but the "john/arthur eyes open/closed when aiming" thing may be due to what's called 'eye dominance'. Arthur may be right handed and right eye dominant, whereas John may be right handed but left eye dominant (just means he automatically focuses using his left eye). That would explain why John closes his left eye when rifle shooting (if I shoot a right handed rifle stock I do this). Its a well known fact that experienced hunters/riflemen keep both eyes open when shooting to keep peripheral vision, but *only* if their eye dominance/dominant hand match etc

    Great video, RedsDeadBaby! I can see you put actual effort into this one. Two criticisms that I have is that John being blind in his left eye is entirely untrue. John means "getting his eye back" metaphorically as in getting his precision back. The Deadly Assassin outfit is just a pre-order bonus outfit that looks cool. The visually injured eye is just popped blood vessels, not serious. The closed eye while aiming is just because he isn't using it at that current moment so he closes it for better precision. And the Rachael named after his daughter thing is a theory, not a fact like the title says. I like that you included some lesser known facts on this video. Again, good job.
    Here are some additional notes:
    John not "yah-ing" his horse while riding is due to a bug with the game files, a modder named Daan found this and relayed it to me after I pointed it out. (The dialogue in the files exists, but due to an accident they made in the script for replacing the files with updated ones, it doesn't work.)
    John using Arthur's vomiting sounds is obviously a bug, he has his own in the game files.
    RDR1 John has grey eyes, whereas RDR2 John has blue eyes. You can see this in the two games' texture files.
    Old Boy is not directly the same as the War Horse from RDR1 but it is very obviously inspired.

    When arthurs sick and anytime you play as john, if you swap glove, Vest, and shirt varients the character models are buggy. Forearms beef out and then get skinnier, and as you can see in the video at 9:44 Johns Gloves actually change size. The game is being buggy with what porportions to use to what body model I think.
    When sick with TB as Arthur if you check his wellbeing under Player < Arthur from the menu
    Your health is Marked with the red Debuff "Tuberculosis" and a -%40 core drain rate with a skull icon ( posion uses the same icon )
    And Your general stats will note Arthur as Underweight No matter what you do or eat.
    I think as rockstar was rushing development in the end they couldn't polish this and other late game chapters as well as chapter 1-5, like how Annesburg theres an obvious Audio splice during a cutscene when Arthur helps Mrs. Downes Son, and this also explains why John has the same vomiting noises as Arthur and I swear to god ive heard John's grunts while climbing as Arthur.
    Oh yea, John does encourage and hurry his horse while riding, Calm your horse while riding and itll restore stamina as well as have Arthur/John talk to it.

    If John was blind in his left eye he wouldn't need to close it. If however his vision was impaired in that eye, he might in order to give a clear image when aiming.
    I suspect the eye colour and body/ face shape changes are due to the fact R* just used Arthur's body. And stuck John's skin on. Why they made this change when they already had a presumably working model in version 1.00, is baffling.
    John doesn't take to the horses in the way Arthur does. He just doesn't seem all that caring towards his steed and, well, the feeling is obviously mutual. This is probably just my perception of it, because surely R* didn't program that in ... or did they? I've never had a really reliable horse with John, however I've had two fantastic bombproof ones and several others who were pretty good with Arthur.
    I always assumed Rachel was named by David Geddes, as she was only lent to John originally while he worked for him.

    I think it’s kinda cool that Arthur’s dead eye sounds like he is taking in the sounds around him more; like he is processing all the feed his brain receives to make the predicted shot to land in dead eye, whilst John’s sounds more like a time slowing, locked-in perspective of just focusing purely on the gunfire and positioning of his enemies; perhaps meaning there are different types or ‘stances’ for dead eye? I’m probably just overthinking it, but it would be cool, because then assuming someone like Micah who is presumed to have dead eye, I wonder what his would be like?

    • @birdsteak9267
      @birdsteak9267 Před rokem

      It's the scope, one eye see far ahead through a lense, the other eye do not and that is a massive disparity in depth for both eyes at once and that is problematic as it mess with your depth perception. Take a binocular to your right eye and you understand haha, plus it's Generally better with one eye closed with scope, but long range with Iron sight and red dot with both eyes open works just fine, because the depth perception helps. This way you can also put on the lense protector on the front of the red dot scope at night, having both eyes open, like blocking your one eye with your hand at a certain distance from your face you can see through it, it's the same effect with the red dot and this help keeping you concealed in short distance shooting position in the dark, because the red dot lights up as a beacon.
