    I've never tried a Vox valve amp before (or tube amp, if you're american). I've not even tried a Vox AC30, that most legendary of amps. I know I should have, since I'm really into Brian May, but I haven't. So I got this amp second hand and didn't really know what to expect. It's really affordable, which can sometimes be a bad sign. But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. What kind of sounds did I get out of this Vox? Watch the video to find out.

    Thank you Elmo!
    I just bought thus amp and I love it after two days. I have a small frame of reference. It is better than my H&K mini, monoprice 5 watt, vox mini superbeetle. The other amp I have is the Spark 40, which has great sounds, but has an annoying lag or artificial thing. The top boost sounds great to my ear and "dark" is in the ear of the beholder. I like a little bass compression in my tone.

    Thanks for the video! Vox is still coining from the sales of this amp. It was a good move to introduce it to the market. As much as I love the sound and features on mine, I believe Vox could make a V2 to be much more successful and rendering V1 obsolete. Here are my points:
    - Vox could offer a proper plywood cabinet for the amp and make it slightly deeper so people could install something like a 10" Alnico Gold speaker (it sounds way better than the stock VX10) and
    - Vox could add an effects loop (the one I have in my AC30CCH sounds great!) and finally listen to what people are asking for.
    This is not a complete overhaul of the existing amp, just some necessary adjustments to make the amp a super versatile and usefull one, probably the best selling amp in Vox's history.

    My local music shop has an ac10 set up in one of its practice rooms. I'm sure that amp sells a lot of guitars. I like clean / just breaking up tones and the ac10 probably contributed to me buying an original series 50s strat and a 2004 Les Paul standard. Great little amp.

    I have one, and gig with a lightweight 60's trio. Perfect for that. I also use a Blackstar Studio 10 6L6 - 10-watt Class A Tube Combo,that has many more features. You may want to look at that. And, thanks for your hard work!

    Tip; I have tried taming my AC-10C1 to make the controls more manageable. First I had a JAN Philips NOS 5751in V1, and it helped a little. Today I put a JJ12AU7 in V1, and there it was!! gain at twelve, volume at twelve, bas and treble at twelve and reverb at nine. Perfect sound and volume as a starting point, much easier to adjust gain and volume form clean to top boost. You might think that the 12au7 would be too weak, but no, it's perfect for getting right control of tone and volume! highly recommended.

    Sounds great! I think the AC10C1 is probably the best "entry-level" tube amp on the market, IMO. A word of constructive critique - you mentioned how the recording sounded darker than it did in the room. Judging by the mic placement, I think you're picking up a lot of cone edge. You might pick up a slightly brighter, more accurate representation of the in-room sound if you move it mid-cone or on the edge of the dust cap (I prefer the edge of the dust cap with the mic angled about 30 degrees off-axis). Just something you might try. Great review, yet again!

    I own this combo and must say that it sounds better than my marshall half stack.. The ac10 sounds good (almost) every time I'm plugged in.. And has versatile tone.. I don't understand people that say it only does one thing.. I'm not into bells and whistles.. And as to the price being too low to be good.. It maybe true in some cases.. The build of the ac10 is clearly not top quality.. But a key thing here is that they will charge as much as people agree that it is worth .. Like a hand wired version or a combo silver jubilee type deal..if everyone was so convinced that this was the greatest it would go for thousands...it sounds great with a les paul.. Few basic complaints though.. The combo picks up static and noise here and there.. And the tubes have a very low volume rattle on a couple notes when played loud..both of which are things I can easily live with for the quality that I'm getting in return

    I am looking for my first tube amp for mostly playing in the bedroom. I use a lot of reverb and delay pedals as well as a fuzzface. Do you feel this amp will take those pedals well? What other amps around the same price range would? Love the content :)

    • @MrPolevaulter
      @MrPolevaulter  Před 4 lety +2

      Sorry for taking so long to respond. If you drive the amp itself, then reverb and delay won't work too well. If you play it clean, then they will. Not sure about others in this price range.

    Vox AC 30 - good but temperamental when used in anger. I used to have to regularly kick mine back in the day when the volume died and it started to fart instead. It would sometimes come back to life and sometimes not (much to others amusement). Oh how I longed for a Marshall !

    People don’t like this amp because no loop for delay? Easy fix, get a second AC10, get a boss dd3 delay. Send the main signal to the dirty amp, send wet signal to the second amp that is set up clean enough to make the repeats sound good. You will never need an effects loop again!

    Why haven't people figured out yet - play first; talk later? Even if you're only jamming for 30 seconds to start it off, just play a bit - no one wants to click on an instrument video and watch someone talking for two solid minutes.
