One of the most beautiful intros I've ever heard on CZcams. Bravo. I played this amp, was too loud unfortunately for my liking.. Amazing tones for sure.
I got this amp a few years ago and I love it ! The tones you can get from it are awesome ! It is great for studio recording at low volumes, even though it can get loud.
I could listen to you play through that amp all day. Wonderful tone!
I got my 2020 epiphone les paul in September put FlatWound strings on it and have been eyeing this amp since I got it. Thank for this great review đ
This is the amp I am gonna get once I am done learning the absolute basics on my vox pathfinder 10, thanks for the video, it sounds great
Sounds excellent!
As usual, you content is great, Shane. I love that because of the time difference I always wake up and find a new video of yours đđ€đœ
Man, I dig this amp! Let me know what you think of the Vox AC10C1!

Excellent as ever Shane. I own one of these and is my grab and go. Have put a Celestion greenback in and Sovtek valves all through. I donât know whether it makes that much difference maybe less brittle than stock. Main use for this for me is the dry amp in a wet dry set up with an AC30. In this configuration it really shines and easily carries through leaning back on the headroom and effected tones of the âwetâ AC30. I play Gretsches and these with Vox amps are match made in heaven. This amp is definitely a keeper thanks for giving the AC10 some love and on its own is ample in a reasonable live setting. Well done đđđ
Love it I want it also but I would need to find a new place to live in, I have 3 P90's on my Strat it would sound amazing , and loud
I own one and itâs great !
Great review! I went to Sky Music on boxing day to get myself an amp. The last AC10C1 was on display and I am pretty damn sure it must have been the same amp you played in your review, that you just returned to the shop. It is the same Vintage Black grill cloth and the handle is a little lobsided to the left (I doubt that this affects the tone). Now I got bragging rights to owning an amp that featured on YT with thousands of views. And yeah... awesome tones coming out of this little amp!
Great demo Shane, I actually purchased one of these yesterday and your review was helpful. Gotta say that when buying/deciding on a new piece of gear I will check out your channel first for a stand up review. Definitely do some more Vox reviews, it would be interesting to see how an A/B of the new version of each one in the AC line compares to their vintage counterpart. Have a happy and safe New Year!
I'm a HUGE vox lover, way more versatile than most other valve amps I own and they sound great no matter what guitar I am playing through them, the little MV50 with the 8" speaker cab I own is great in the studio and I've used it on all of my Albums, I don't own an ac10 as I have an ac15c1 but they get great reviews on the vox page, its good to see one in action đ
That Little AC10 sounded awesome! I always enjoy your videos and your Playing.
Yeah, always liked this amp. Great little recording amp and when you put it through a bigger cabinet, hell yeah!
Iâll be ordering mine today. Thank you Shane!
Just got back into learning guitar again - a long way to go but one day a vox amp and fender strat will be mine đ thanks for the video đ
Just picked up this amp today. Wow. The clean tones are awesome. Glad I made this purchase.
You cut a Great video man! Studio looks Awesome, Editing is Sweet and you're playing is Fantastic.
Love the amp, I recently put a 12au7 in V1 of the preamp, it makes the amp much more controllable, you can set gain and volume at 12 0'clock (mid) without being too loud, highly recommended. This mod also makes sound a lot closer to the original early 60's model (I know and have played one). I made a jack out parallel with the speaker. That gives you 2 options; 1 it let's you use an attenuator (the speaker out shuts of the internal speaker, this let's you send signal from the attenuator back to the speaker, 2 it let's you tap a signal to a linedriver for FOH and recording. FWIW. It's light, loud, sound GREAT, has master volume, has reverb. Guitar - tuner - AC-10 and you do a gig with confidence
Any chance on showing a diagram of how you wired it. Iâd like to try this with mine
I too would like to see how you wired this if you get a chance, please.
Cheers from Canada mate! Thanks for the demo. Great sounding amp in a small footprint, Shane, great tone it's got nice bottom and is loud, very portable, I run this amp in stereo with the VOX AC15C1. Super robust sounds with delay, reverb, and 6-band EQ from pedals.
Great video! Great review.
On my wishlist, right now.
Keep up doing videos like this.
Cheers!
even that strat bridge tone -was musical....yes bright, but still very useable ...nice review
Beautiful demonstration! Those tones were absolutely perfect!
Great review great intro and definitely my next purchase đđ
Shane, your playing really is remarkable. I really appreciate someone who can play and make out the notes. I have always described "my sound" as heavily overdriven but clean, if that makes sense? Not sure if that is your intent as well but, it sounds great!
Good distorted tone (in my opinion) is perfectly capable of melting faces, but doesn't turn to mud either.
Fu manchu and smashing pumpkins have done a helluva lot better than me with walls of noise though. so hey. :)
I have had one for several years. Absolutely love it. Run a Joyo Tremolo in front. Itâs all I need.
You sure love that hold on loosely riff. You always end up playing it for rock.
Just got mine today, pretty excited
Great demo. Guy in my local music shop recommended this amp. I might just take him up on it. Wow !
I've had mine for almost a year, love the cleans and the overdrive. I like the reverb on it and think it's more useful than a tremolo. Having a reverb and a tremolo pedal I often don't touch the on-board reverb. I put new JJ tubes in it that seemed to smooth it out some. I think the stock speaker is fine but can see myself buying the 2x12 greenback cab in the future.
I own a Matchless DC30 2x10. A Vox HW head with a 2x12 Blues cab and I must say the little combo puts a smile on my face when I turn it on.
2 of these will do nicely. If you want headroom.
Thanks for the review.
From Leo: I have been a Fender tube amp fan for decades. I was always amazed at how loud the VOX tube amps are, esp the AC30. Looks like this AC10 is the same lineage. I do like the VOX crunch tones.
It's my only amp (I don't need crazy volume as I for now only play at home), and I think it sounds fantastic. The only issue it had was some annoying tube rattle with low notes, but a couple of tube dampeners put on the tubes from eBay completely fixed that.
Great amp for the studio, I have one of the white ones....love it.
There can never be enough VOX Videos!
Sounds great Shane! I have one too and it is a Rock machine. Cool amp.
always enjoy your reviews!!!
as good as it sounds on this video, it's even better in the room. i have no idea how Vox made such a small, portable, and LOUD amp. the spunds are so full and 3d. the digital reverb is fantastic, also
Woah I love that bass outro!
I love mine!I got one of the cream ones they put out last year.
The ac10 is a great sounding little amp. Itâs like surprisingly good because of its size.
You know when an amp is good when within 1 minute you start playing and stop twisting knobs.....amazing sound!
That is some great playing, Shane!
Fantastic tones!!!
Great amp. A fave of Tim Rogers from "You Am I". He said it's pure Rock 'n Roll. Great minds think alike, eh? ;)
I'd love my old AC15 with the Greenback in my rig again, but damn that thing was heavy. This is more age appropriate ;)
Nice demo, Shane. Tasty!
I initially was going to buy one of these new, but an AC15C1 came up at a good price so I went with that. But I do think it's one of the best Vox amps and would still like one to compare.
Your AC15 offers more than this AC10. AC10 is the only the top boost channel, while AC 15 offers 2 channels. Also larger cabinet of AC15 gives richer tones. I have the AC15HW1 with an even larger and stronger cabinet than the AC15C1, and tones are even richer. It may be hard to believe, until you test it by yourself. And yes Vox tubes amps are brutally loud, even my small Vox NT2 2watts can move my 4x12 Marshall cab !
Great tones... I bought an used pathfinder 15r and I'm crazy about it..try it if you want budget vox amps.. I'm liking it even more than my bandit...
Vox is a really good amp. Im using a vox path finder 10 and its sounds really great. Nice review.
I picked one up a few year ago and can attest this is the loudest 10 watt amp ever. I really should play it more often.
Just spent about a month convincing myself not to by another amp, and I went and clicked this video. I should have known better. Sounds awesome Shane.
Did you end up getting this? I have opportunity to get this amp (499) or BJR iv (450) and have been torn.
@@dannymartinez3600 I did not get it. YET. let me know how you like it if you do get it.
@@dannymartinez3600 no
Tell me about it,just bought oneđđż
Can never go wrong with another amp.
Sounds killer! Nice video man
Shane, excellent review and demonstration as usual.đ. How does this little beast compare to my Bugera V5 amplifier. đđ€âšđ
Had mine for a few years now. Absolute bargain. Sounds great, loud enough to gig and light enough to carry on the tube. Amazing amp.
I've owned one of these for around 3 months or so, absolutely immense little amp with a big sound.
When using FX, I turn master up full and control the volume with the gain
When using just the amp, I find the gain at around 1 or 2 o clock is sweet
Yeah, it took me a while to figure that out. Wishing it had an fx loop so I could take more advantage of it's gain!
Great job Shane! Iâve had my eye on this amp for a while....sorry to digress but what snare drum(s) do you use?
Great video! So Shane, do you like the AC10 or AC15 better just based on tone?
I have a VOX AC10. It is the only VOX amp I own, and I am very impressed with it. Very affordable too.
Just loves that strat... I've got the little pathfinder 10, and only thing that i wish it had is reverb. And yeah, gig worthy volume, cause these vox tones are just tasty :)
Always great Shane!
Sounds killer. Definitely worth a try.
Have a white bronco that I'm NEVER letting go. Love this little devil
My main amp! (I'd say only, but I have a Blackstar HT1r for home and stereo for small gigs) They are great!
Great intro track man.
woww shane nice jam
nice demo as always... i notice you reviewed the Vox ac4....would you say there's any difference, aside from, the reverb on this one? thanks again.
Got mine 5 years ago, super nice amp.
I got one of these a couple years ago from Sweetwater on a special purchase with a 10" Greenback already installed. Love it especially with another amp in stereo. WOW! Great demo.
I've got the V-Type speaker in my and it's amazing...... đž
Great little amp. I played a new epiphone 335 thru one recently and the tones are amazing. I own a Blues Jr and a Deville 4x10 and this could easily be my home practice amp.
Damn that sounds good. You sound amazing.
I am always trading and moving amps, and this little VOX is a stayer. In a small room it is plenty loud enough. Amp on full volume, gain to taste, and ride the guitar volume. It is so easy to get a great tone out of this amp. It takes pedals great. The reverb is good, and a great little bonus. I want to get another of these and then put through extension cabinets, and try dual mono or stereo.
Hi Shane. A great demo of one of my favourite amps. I won't post a link (because I don't subscribe to hijacking) but I did a repair and sound improvement changes recently on my repair channel, which I am sure you would find interesting.
This was my first Valve amp that I purchased in 2017 (British Racing Green) and many more have come and gone but I still own this. I bounce between using a Warehouse retro and greenback speaker. Shamefully I never gave the VX speaker a chance. One thing I love about this amp is how sensitive the EQ is a little turn goes a long way. What I am not a fan of is how this applies to the volume. Goes from whisper to LOUD with that same tiny turn. I love the Reverb and nowadays I am actually enjoying digital reverbs over spring SS or valve. I know I'm the odd man out. Oh and it will flub with a greenback if you let it.
Did you use any pedals on the intro songs ?? Thanks sounded good
My first tube amp was a VOX AC15C1. I loved how it sounded, especially with the gain dialed up. However, it felt too loud and too large as a bedroom amp. I think the AC10C1 may be the amp for me! Your demo confirmed that, so thanks!
Itâs not much quieter. I modified my AC10 to take an attenuator. Itâs totally unlocked all of the tonal possibilities.
Wow. I like that amp more than I thought I would. Mostly for solos and not rhythm much
I have a Vox AC10C1 and a Marshall Mini Silver Jubilee. The Marshall is a bomb, but the Vox is great too
Great arsenal of tone. Awesome
My main amp is an ac10. I have had it for three years. The stock speaker is good, but I recently put a Celestion creamback in it and the tone has gone to another level. Love it.
My AC30S1 with cream vinyl and a Creamback speaker sounds like heaven, so basically the 30 watt version of yours.... can confirm it sounds incredible. It's the only thing in a guitar store amazing enough for me to impulse buy the day I tested it.
These little guys rock a good thing đžđđ€
I like the tones too but have some doubts about the durability : the valves plug directly into the board, so no proper feet...
Iâve played one. They sound great especially the speaker in the blue one. Only negative is no effects loop. I ended up buying the blackstar 6L6 studio 10. Because of the effects loop.
got me the studio 10 EL34 coming this week! which pedals do you put in the loop?
@@yomuthabyotch my Keeley caverns, boss 200 md and my boss 200 eq. My overdrives go in the main input.
how do you like the blackstar? ive been curious about those
@@mattstewie420 me or the other guy? i love mine; been a blackstar fan since 2014.
Own one. Really didn't like the on/off switch so replaced it with a heavy duty on/standby/off switch. Also upgraded the speaker to a Celestion G10 Greenback so the amp is a little heavier but a lot sweeter sounding. I think the switch upgrade is a no-brainer. The original speaker does the job and I only did the upgrade when I replaced all the valves as well as the switch.
Vox rocks, baby..!! I've had My new Vox Cambridge 50 for a good month now and with My Greco HSS Super Strat the tones are really great..!!
Very satisfied Vox "rocker" here.
Those vox amps are deceptively loud for the wattage. Sounds great
Vox make some great amps.I have the old Pathfinder 15 (without the reverb) and i wouldn't sell it for any amount of money..This amp sounds wonderful.
I'll give you $1 million for it
Mine loved P90's...proper raucous. Stuck a 10" greenback in mine.
Love mine! Got it used from a big box store. Felt like I stole it once I got it home and played it. Crazy bang for your buck amp.
Nice little amp.. Would love to hear it demoed through a 2-12 or 4-12 cab..
BY farrrr...The BEST AMP I've ever Owned...Extremely Pleased.
i ve this amp and its beautiful. Did you swap the stock speaker ? i know it is good as a stock but what if there is better one for its taste ? )))
Most underrated amps ever. Glad Shane is showing them some love. đž
Vox being underrated is news to me
Underated? What planet is that on?
Speaking from all the youtube videos etc. You see nothing but Fender and Marshall. Almost guaranteed (for me at least) if I click on a video it's played through those 2. Unless it's Rhett Shull lol. Thanks for chiming in hope you guys have a great holiday and get some cool gear đž
Almost scooped up a burgundy tolex AC10 for $320, but the guy sold before I could pounce. Eventually went with a budget and wallet friendly Katana 50. Looking to see eventually get a pair of Katana 50s, run my Orange OMEC teleport into the power amp in on both, and have various dual amp setups via BiasFX.
The Vox AC4 1x12 is another sweet little amp. I had one for a bit, but unfortunately I had to sell off a few guitars, and all my amps post Covid to pay the bills. Was recently looking at powered cabs, as most of my recording is now done in my apartment with BiasFX. The Katana 50 ticked all the boxes to breakout of the PC and bring those tones out live.
Having once been a total tube snob? I am reluctantly leaning more into the digital/analog solid state realm. Mostly because of options, cost, reliability, and travel weight. Cheap gear is just really killing it these days IMO. Recently got a $130 Firefly P90 junior knock off that, after a Grover upgrade, absolutely slays.
Iâm rambling again arenât I?!
Lmao!
Great vid as always Shane.
Stay gold man.âïžâ€ïžđ€
Itâs funny you should mention a clubby low end. I just sampled an AC10C1 the other day, and I had to turn the bass down to 9 oâclock in order to tame the bottom end. Loud-ish, but minimal clean headroom. Still a nice little amp, once I dialed it in.
Hey Shane, Jimbo here from Washington State, USA...I'd love for You to demo the Vox Cambridge 50.
Shane,
have you fallen in love with your Tokai again? We thought you were going to abandon her! Great guitar!!!!
The Tokai was very dark and muffled with the volume pot turned down. A resistor/capacitor treble bleed network across the lugs of the volume pot (~$2 worth of parts) solved this problem!
I wanted a tube amp. Headed into a guitar shop looking originally at a Supro Delta King or a Fender Blues Junior. To my ear they sounded poorly defined and not the sound I was after. After a while I asked the chap to bring me something different. He came back with this Vox amp. I had no interest in the brand but had a go anyway. The sound blew me away. The treble is well defined and it's versatility was awesome. I went home with it.
One problem..... it's very very difficult to mic up for recording. I can't get what I'm hearing with my ears. Eventually put a dynamic mic at a 45 degree angle about 12 inches away and a condenser about 3 foot away amd getting closer to what I hear.
Another thing this is super light.
totaly agree. The best!
Bought a vox ac 10, great amp. More than enough volume for home use!!!! Light, portable, quality sounds from the 10in speaker which surprised me... and if the tremolo is a deal breaker, what's wrong with a pedal.. great amp......
Seems like an amazing entry into tube amps for the price. I think the master volume makes it a great bedroom/home use tube amp.
Unfortuntely itâs far too loud for home use if you want it to sound good. Just sold mine.
@@EinerVonDenen Throw a boost pedal and a compressor in front of it and you should be able to get to the sweet spot with less volume.
@@tdunster2011 No, you won't. You don't get a good bass response until you turn up the gain a bit. Home use is possible, bedroom volume definitely not. Trust me, I owned this amp for several years and combined it with many great pedals. You get only 10% of the sound it's capable of at home. These 10 watts are just too frickin loud.
â@@EinerVonDenen Man up lol. It's not as loud as Tweed Twin or a Bandmaster 3x10 and I've tamed both of them for home use with a compressor and a clean boost. The other alternative is to invert the tone stack - so tone controls off and volume at max. Then slowly bring the tone up until you get a suitable level.
@@tdunster2011 Man up? What a stupid comment. Maybe the sound is good enough for you on low volumes. It certainly isn't for me.
I think the AC10 might be one of the best value in the market right now for amp of its kind.
Have you tried or have any experience with the VR series of the AC?
Like it. Would you call this one over the Artist 20R? đđŠđș
I agree totally with Dave Druitt, Vox AC 10,15,30 type amps are killer with Gretsch guitars. jmo.
I want one as well brother. Great playing as always.
How loud it sounds is for a part power and for the most speaker sensitivity (db/watt/m) related. You can put a 100 watts into a 85 db/w/m speaker but it won't get louder than that. 30 watts into 90 db/w/m will sound ( a lot) louder at less than a third of the power (needed).
