Steven Seagal clearly puts in time practicing and it seems like he is a genuine blues fan. Plus he has a self awareness of his voice and guitar skills and wasn't trying to do too much with either. I'm pleasantly surprised by Seagal the musician.
He's not sticking in one pentatonic box, he's got some dynamics, and he gets a nice tone out of just his thumb - a bit warmer than if he used a pick. I don't think I'd buy a CD, but if he were playing outside the local Chipotle, I'd stop and listen for a bit, and maybe even throw something into the tip jar.
I like the honest critique of Steven Segal’s playing. It would be so easy to ridicule a movie star playing out their rock star dreams, but I like how you point out some of his licks that are really good. He definitely has a huge leg up on me as far as performing live as well as putting together some tasty licks!😎😎🎸🎸🎸🎸

Seagal has mastered the thumb picking style of Wes Montgomery. Very impressive! It's not surprising that Steven uses the same discipline needed to master arts to master the guitar. Good job.

This is by far the best one I've seen. He's actually playing around a little. The videos I saw previously was truly embarrassing and they were edited in with some interview where he talks about how he lives and breaths the blues, while being a llama and a holy man and whatnot.
I remember watching that video just after it was posted. If I remember right, he changed guitars every song. I remember a Firebird and a Strat. It's a good video worth watching.
I was surprised, for not being a pro musician he's better than expected and does a good job of laying down does licks. Keep in mind this a 4th dan black belt Aikido master which is the highest degree recipient in America 🇺🇸. Blues Brothers style of singing. Good video Shane. I too was surprised
Segal is obviously someone who started playing much later in life than most of us "musicians," so of course his technical proficiency is going to be less than some who does the "Schenker Method" : three hours a day or until you get bored. Having rambled about this, I'll add this thought: Segal is on the "right track," he's playing it the way he feels it and the technique that works for HIM. Furthermore, his choice of instruments and his tone are superior to the channel host, who's sounding very processed on that Satriani thing he's rocking. cheers 🍻

In the golden age of movies, you would be hard-pressed to find a notable actor or actress who was not an expert in at least one instrument, and who could sing and dance- simultaneously. Today, most of them need a double for anything.
YES guitarist Trevor Rabin ate at Steven Segal's restaurant in L.A. When Steven came out to say hello, the talk turned to guitar. Trevor ended up giving Steven guitar lessons. In return, Steven allowed Trevor to score his film "The Glimmer Man." This led to a new career for Trevor. He has since scored dozens of films including: Armageddon, Remember the Titans and Snakes on a Plane! 🤭
