  • In this video I will chronograph the Umarex Hammer with a 264gr, 350gr, 388gr, and a 550gr slug to see what kind of energy we can get out of it.

If you made it to the end, yes, the 388gr HP did go faster than the 350gr solid. That is not a typo. My 350gr mold drops big at .512, and the extra diameter eats away at velocity. Sizing the slugs would have brought velocity closer to what is expected.

I love the N.S.A 388gr hp. They will almost always cloverleaf at 50yds for me. I can't say how they hold up past that though.

Hey, do you have to use the umarex ammo, are you able to use other slugs? I am 90% certain you are, but I just wanted to check.

You can use any .51 cal ammo. Accurate molds has an exact copy of the umerax 550gr, as well as other .51 molds. N.O.E is another option. They are pricey up front, but they are a huge money saver if you are intending to target to shoot

Something wrong with your second shot, it should have made more power than the first and less than the third.

There is a fairly odd thing about regulators and how they handle the first shot after filling. Airgun nation and GTA both have topics on it but a summary is "regulator creep". In which the pressure the reg is set to varies slightly from a slow fill. But the sudden shock of air after a shot "sets" it back in place. By shocking the bottle with a tank you can slightly negate this issue but for competition use, it is still recommended to bleed off a shot or 2 depending on caliber, to set the reg back to normal. Though the Hammer uses so much air you only get 2 shots a tank so you can't really bleed a shot off unless you are tethered in which you can shock the bottle during a fill up mostly negating the issue. It's a fun rabbit hole to jump down honestly
