      I called Krown and they explained that undercoating my 4Runner would entail them drilling in the frame so they could inject the frame! Is this normal? Scares me to have them drill the body with holes. Any insight into this? Is ok to do this?

    • @kennethhuber3658
      @kennethhuber3658 Před rokem

      @@claudiacanales2662 When I first had my car treated I had the same concern. However I have not had any issues with the holes they drilled. They do apply a coating of heavy grease on the exposed metal caused by the drill process before they insert the plastic plug. Also if you read the reviews people have posted there does not appear to be any issues with the process. Since they have been in business for many years if this was a problem I'm certain it would have already come to light by now. I have had my car spayed with Krown for 10 years and am very pleased with the result. I hope this helps.

    Nice video! I'm sure where you live regular undercoating is a must considering the amount of snowfall that you average per season. Here where I live in Central Ohio the Car dealerships & Collision Shops don't seem to promote undercoating as much as they used too. However, we don't usually get all the much snow here compared to your "neck of woods." Thanks for sharing & for the tips.

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Robert! Buffalo usually averages 85 inches per year of snow. If we get any lake effect storms than it’s definitely more! Undercoating is pretty much a necessity if you plan on keeping your vehicle long term. Plus the cost and time savings of some of these places is totally worth it. As always, thanks for watching!

    750,000 frame replacements is what I heard. Do you think any of the big 3 would ever do that, oh hell no. I just had my 2007 Tundra done with New Hampshire Oil Black. Other then engine oil+filters, front and rear dif gear oil, drive train grease nipples. Then maybe air filters and then eventually sensors and gaskets.

    Krown is the best, I get my 4Runner done as well
    The frame problem was caused by Toyota getting Dana Corp of Maumee, Ohio to supply the frames , as Japanese vehicle's need so much North American content the be assembled in North America
    Dana then subcontracted the frames to a company in Mexico to produce them to cut costs, that's what happened
    Mexican frames in a Japanese vehicle, not good as you can see
    And Dana had to pay Toyota 25 Million
    The new high strength frames are made in Japan and sent here
    My 4Runner was not affected, as 4Runners are still built in Japan
    The frames on the Tundra and Sequoia had the same problem

    Using steel with a higher carbon content affects the strength of the steel, not the corrosion resistance. Unfortunately, 3rd generation Tacoma frames are just as rust prone as the previous generation trucks. As proof, Toyota recently extended their frame replacement program to include 3rd generation trucks. I do however agree that proper rust proofing will dramatically extend the life of a Tacoma frame.

    It is true, reason why oil wax is so good is because its fluid. You can literally POUR it in holes and areas that you can not paint it. That oil will sit there and protect frame, it can't crack unlike the paint since it is fluid. Paint tends to crack all over place, hot weather especially. Then go and look for cracks and paint it again... you miss few ones and that crack will get bigger etc

    You’re 100 percent wrong. My buddy and I bought new Tacoma in 2012 we both kept them for 10 years. So 2022 I traded mine and he did too. I never under coated not once. He took his to crown every Summer. He told me after 10 years he was about $1,500.00 into under coating. Point is. When we traded the trucks in. The salesman was only interested in overall condition and miles and what year. I actually got $1,000 more for my trade in. So under coating in my honest opinion is a waste of time and money. No malicious intent. Just true.

    This barely causes any mess, doesn’t even drip. If you can’t do this yourself you’re not a man.
