Carla Makes Hasselback Butternut Squash | From the Test Kitchen | Bon Appétit - Jak na to + styl
Carla in the foreground!
You know what Brad and Carla have in common? They just explain things to me like I'm a friend.. hanging out. Like, same tone, cadence.. grammer you would use with a friend. Its the secret sauce methinks.
Yea and they both make mistakes in their segments. Like in describing the dish, forgetting a utensil. Just little fuckups that remind you they’re human.
Liked only because you said methinks
Its that approachability that all of the hosts at BA have. I find it to be a very admirable quality.
I like how Brad is always looking back at the camera in everyone's videos.
Exacttllyy!!! Like.. Were all friends and theyre just showing us their cool new recipe. Im obsessed with their videos. Really everyone in the BA family has me one way or the other.
She literally called me out in the first few seconds of this video haha
is that brad in the background?
love u
Thirsty
yes
who's the adorable lanky redhead in the foreground though
Brad for the WIN
You know what is awesome with ba videos? They show that they screw up too. Awesome recipe. Keep up the good work.
Exactly! And they just roll with it :3
idk why but im really loving this lady's vibe
human50centipede you want some lucio oh's?
Hehehe. Carla is my favorite. But yes, "BrAaaAAaaaD in the BackgrouNNNnnnd" because he's dreamy.
I lost it when she pulled out that chunk of squash 4:35 lol
We knew who you meant when you said David Hasselback. It' OK. You reminded me of the time my mother told us about her trip to Tampon Springs Florida. She must have said tampon 20 times and no one corrected her either until she was done with the story.
I think Vinny should edit Carla's videos too. She's got it!
YES please!!!
2:50 "You want the tip of the knife to slip through without feeling like you're in a fight..."
Have you, uh...been in a *lot* of knife fights, Carla?
this lady is so cute :) and the butternut squash looks delicious. I'd make this with my Sunday roast with some roast pork
Jay Paul i made it with braised lamb fries on a bed of quinoa
David Conrath braised lamb fries?
joseph lamb testicles
Honestly shes the cutest person! What a refreshing lady
can we all just appreciate how hilarious it was when Carla was like "I don't want to cut it all the way through..." and the background music even stops when her face goes to the most "ugh" expression and she says "I CUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH... classic"
I LOVE HER
bRAd In thE baCkgroUnD?
no, is bread
"Go watch an episode of it's alive!" I love how Bon Appetit know that we all love Brad & its alive ! ;)
(the trick didn't work because that knife is curved.)
You don't say
Meat cleaver has a straight edge. hahaha
Also because the bulb end is hollow so there's two small parts that's holding it together.
hasselback is a swedish recipe. Here we usually put another cuttingboard right next to the potato on the other cuttingboard instead of skewers.
Yeah a cutting board or a wooden ladel would work
It isn't Carla who's cooking if there's no kitchen mishap and I love her even more for that. Carla never fails to make me laugh.
I just love how they leave the little flubs and accidents into the videos on Bon Appetit. It really makes these videos fun and approachable, which is confidence inspiring when it comes time to try out the recipes irl.
I love that they include the mistakes and laugh at themselves!! It really is relatable! Bon Appetit is my Favorite!!!!
I don't think anyone at BA actually knows what a tablespoon of olive oil looks like.
Chef has tablespoon of fat? They definitely meant triple that.
They just use a nonstandard definition: "Enough olive oil to cover the surface of a table."
Or a pinch of salt
@@janani1826 They must go through literal tons of kosher salt every week.
"Go watch an episode of "It's Alive" " . You got me there, Carla. The shades in this episode, though, hahaha. I love it!
Hasselback (or rather Hasselbacken) is a swedish restaurant where the Hasselback potato was invented.
"Invented"... Potatoes have existed for millions of years..
It's the style of cooking it, not the potato itself.
no they haven't
You guy, you are a genius.
As for what it means, it roughly translates to 'the hazelly slope', because swedish place names are usually just litteral descriptions.
hey carla, I love how you describe the sensation/science of the ingredients as you introduce them.. just as im typing you did the squash skewer technique.
ive never cooked squash before but im gonna try this.
"it's super easy!"
*Professional chef cuts all the way through the squash several times*
Easy yet stunning
Looks absolutely yummy . Every bit worth making it . Thank you dear 👍😊🌹🌹will share
Sooo making this for thanksgiving this year
This looks so good! Not only that, but this is just so much fun to watch! I was just smiling all throughout the video....!
i’m from fresno!!! thx luv it when you make videos
Brad should do an "It's alive" on Tempeh!
Making this for Thanksgiving this year...I have a ginormous homegrown butternut squash I need to use up. Plus I love Carla
Just in time for autumn... thanks.... new twist.. maybe for kid-friendly...
0:09 Hasselback comes from Hasselbacken which is a restaurant in Stockholm Sweden the name Hasselbacken means Hazel Hill
i love carla and her sillyness. love her laugh.
i love carla. brad and andy on the background is a bonus!
This video was a rollercoaster and I'm here for if
They surrendered to the evidence: the Brad effect
I love Carla's attitude.
That looks amazing and so delicious and impressive! Thank you!
Wow it makes me actually want to eat squash. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe! I would so appreciate more holiday recipes that are more unique like this.
Actually the best video. On youtube.
Thank you
Thank you Carla! I'm watching you from my new home, Fresno Calif!!! Awesome recipe
Thanks for the shout out, here from Fresno! I was given a bunch of butternut squash and so glad I found this video it’s not a typical oh just soup or just roasted squash in cubes
Mindfullness! Of course. Love it.
I really enjoyed this video! Make more Carla!
Carla, Brad, Vinnie!
Wow very yummy looking food
Carla is so wholesome I love her
Love it purely because of Carla ❤️
Carla is amazing! More videos with Carla please!
It’s sooo delicious!!! Worth giving it a try!
5:30 Hey, even she loves Brad
5:57 Hey, sup Brad?
Itiel López You are the best!!!!
I ❤️ Carla!
I can't wait to try this!
You left all the chilli in, I FREAKIN LOVE YOU!!
This was your funniest episode Carla. The squash looks great.
Carla cut that chili without gloves
She is now the bravest person I've seen online
Twelve20two cutting a chili without gloves isn't that brave
You put on gloves to cut chilli?
Fresnos are mild
joseph it is lol the chemical stays in your hands for hours, even when washing , and just causes pain
You don't even need to worry about that with Fresnos, especially just one or two of them.
Omg this is my favorite video from this CZcams Channel. Carla is so funny!
I love her style
Great video carla, I will be trying this for thanksgiving.
She is so much fun!
Hasselback refers to a Swedish restaurant "Hasselbacken", where they served potatoes using this technique of cutting slices half-way through the potatoes. You also put breadcrumbs on top and pour melted butter over the potatoes every 10 minutes or so while cocking them in the oven. It's a fuss but worth doing. You get a crispy exterior with a "baked potato" type of center. Delicious.
Blech. Sounds like a fat bomb.
Good chefs enhance & introduce flavor, not just glob on butter or oil.
she's so cute my god
excellent! it's early winter here in east Tennessee and squash are plentiful; will get my Bay Watch Hasselbacks going
I love Carla!
I just love Carla 😂
Omg how wholesome this channel was a year ago. Nowadays it's a post-modern clusterfuck and we love it that way
You are so hilarious! Thank you for the great video and laugh! XD
This is my favorite episode with Carla
2:49 "I'm just gonna" *psycho noises as she waves the knife* "give it a check OwO"
Carla you're the best
Carla is my absolute favorite.
Tried this recipe and it is AWESOME!!! It tastes incredible, it is not hard to make at all, and it looks super fancy!
So down to earth! I love her!!!
What a great personality!
"The hasselback part... of... the hasselbacking.."
Me, out loud, unable to help myself: you mean the hasselbacking part of the hasselback?
i couldn't stop laughing that she said how everyone mentions Brad in the background because i'm literally looking through all these videos hoping brad will give a cameo since i've seen all his videos.
the squash looked amazing as well.
Thanks for the Fresno CA shoutout! 👏👏👏
gosh I LOVE Carla so much what a cool lady
I need to make this! C'mon Thanksgiving
This was fun. Also, looks yummy and I'm going to make it.
Carla is adorable! She should make Brad's Christmas manicotti from today's Facebook post.
What a cute video. Thanks for sharing!
I love Tommy 😂😂
The textboxes r so helpful!
Carla is delightful!!
Carla is amazing !!!!!!!!!!!
Omg I want to make these so bad! I’m sure my mom would love it, me and her started a butter squash fan club in the house hahaha
Carla cracks me up!
Love Carla :)
I love her!!!
Carla is a gem
I seriously thought she was making a pun.
this is a great option to use as the centerpiece for a vegan holiday dinner!
Just replace the butter with vegan butter.
Hasselback potatoes are named after the restaurant Hasselbacken in Stockholm where they were created, hassel means hazel and backen means the hill or the slope :---)
That was cool.
Mom’s joke David Hasselback.. how i adore her!
So entertaining I’ll definitely make it
I would love to cook there, they all seem to have so much fun (and having Andy and Brad to lust after wouldn't hurt!)
Hahahaha David hasselback lolz 😂
