The basic idea there with the guard patrol mechanic, where the size of the die rolled varies based on player strategy, is similar to what I do for random encounters. I keep track of a "danger die" that I use when I roll for random encounters, that starts at a d20, and shrinks when the party does things that alerts the dungeon to their presence or otherwise increases the threat level, and if a 1 comes up, a random encounter ensues. I could just roll more frequently, but that felt too arbitrary. This guard patrol mechanic seems like a pretty slick way to handle that, and I think I'll be finding uses for that

Loved the video and I'm so excited to check this book out! Running Heist is such a great concept already

Love this. I ran Waterdeep Dragon Heist remix a year ago as an actual heist adventure and wished I had this resource, as 5e had very few heist related resources.
Honestly all of the modules sound amazing particularly the train one. I’m a Planescape buff and OF COURSE Mechanus has an interplanar train network, why didn’t anyone think of this earlier!?
But from experience I find very few players can get their mindset out of the “bash everything” mentality. My players said my campaign was too hard because they all trying to “say the right thing” and treated a heist like a dungeon crawl 🙄

I enjoy Oceans 11. I may have to check out this heist book but my priorities are Planescape and Book of Many Things.

I just want to kmow all about the last one

If I wanted that, I would be playing James Bond 007 RPG, or Blades in the Dark, or whatever.
I would like that WotC stopped trying to reimagine D&D and goes back to what they did great with the first campaign books: make adventures with the classic D&D feel.
    Cheers!

What if you only wanted to do a heist as one-adventure thing within your regular D&D campaign?
I agree that people should try different games but Blades in the Dark is a very different creature to D&D and perhaps isnt worth throwing a whole campaign away for just a one-shot

    • @B42UC4
      @B42UC4 Před rokem

@@WittyDroog I would buy the one-shot alone for a small fraction of the money. Or write it, or adapt it from another game.
Why would I buy a book full of heists if I am only interested in running one?
That is me, anyhow, and I only expressed what I would like the products to be.
      Cheers!

@B42UC4 That's fine, and people can express opposing opinions too!
If you're doing D&D it's not like there isn't an avalanche of options for pre-written adventures that exists already, both 1st party and 3rd party. I hope they do more Dragonlance stuff but I'm not grabbing a pitchfork for them trying something that isn't a standard D&D adventure, whatever we define that to be.

      @@WittyDroog A pitchfork and a torch! :P
I see your point, but it has been 3 years since I have been underwhelmed by the books they publish.
I loved a lot of their former books, but I guess that kind of products won't come back soon.
      Cheers!

The workers and writers only get about 1-5% of the money from this book spread among all of them. They don't get hurt by not buying the book. There's always more jobs for them.

Everything you said at the start was true. However, All the people who made those awful decisions make money (indirectly) from this book. And they will only be held accountable if the book and the rest of their product lines fail.

  • @SamanthaAnnFox

Went to look at the book, the store had two copies left. Pages were glued together so you would ruin the book trying to separate them.
