    Headlights oxidize when exposed to the sun’s UV rays. Headlight lenses come with a clear coat to help prevent this, but eventually, the coating wears off, and sunlight turns the hard plastic yellow or gives it a milky/cloudy appearance. Using a headlight restoration kit like the Turtle Wax Headlight Lens Restorer improves lens appearance and visibility for safer driving.
    Designed to remove both light & heavy oxidation and yellowing to improve headlight performance.
    Saves money as there is no need to spend hundreds on new headlights.
    Superior results without the need for a drill or a power tool.
    New and improved kit has ceramic wipes for protection lasting up to one year.
    Directions:
    1. Wash and dry headlights to be restored.
    2. Use masking tape to protect surround areas.
    3. Lightly shake the Headlight Lens Repair & Renew compound.
    4. Apply the compound to a microfiber towel and spread product evenly over dull headlight surfaces with moderate pressure and slow back and forth motion for 30 seconds. Buff area dry with a dry microfiber towel. Repeat if necessary to achieve max clarity. If headlight is not evenly restored, proceed to sanding step.
    5. Sanding Step: use tap water to wet headlight and sanding pad. Use finger pressure on green pad #1 and rub side to side of dull or damaged areas for 30 seconds keeping pad surface wet with water. Flip over to #2 side and rub in the opposite direction and only on damaged area. Wipe lens with a dry microfiber towel.
    6. Reapply the compound for 30 seconds over the entire lens with more pressure on sanded areas. 7. Wipe dry. Repeat to achieve max lens clarity. Restore both headlights before applying Ceramic Acrylic Wipe.
    8. Open one Ceramic Acrylic Wipe wearing enclosed glove and apply quickly over both headlights using even back and forth strokes. Let headlights dry about 3 to 5 minutes. Coating will fully cure in 24hrs.

    Pan, thank you so much for this recommendation, I went out today and purchased the kit for around ten dollars and can home to my garage and started on my headlights and to my surprise I only had to use the polishing cream to clean off my lens followed by the spray lubricant and the Base Coat and Lens Sealing wipes. My SUV is ten years old so it looks like I got some new headlights.

    Hi Pan, I get excellent results using my DA with an orange pad and some Menzerna FG500. It comes up brilliantly. Then I seal it with any sealant I use on the paint. 6 months later and the headlights still look great.
    Hand polishing does work, I've tried it, but the DA makes the work so much lighter and quicker.

    Yes, I have purchased that same kit(20 of them) and have restored about headlights for about 10 cars that had then heavily oxidized. Lots of my clients have requested their headlights to be properly restored and this Turtle Wax product has been my only choice of product because of the excellent results. Doing detailing as a side job for 6 years I have also used for the last 10 years on my cars their 2 in 1 headlights cleaner and sealant, unbeatable product and price. Love when family companies remain and step up their products at giant steps like Turtle Wax has done. My grandfather from my mother's side died at 98 2 years ago and he always used Turtle Wax since the day it started and still at 95 he used Turtle Wax products to wash and wax his car.

      @@PanTheOrganizer Well, the headligth lens restorers that I have purchased, I purchased in November 2019 and looked exactly like the one you have shown on the box. My boxes have the 2 polishing pads in green and blue with #1 and #2 instead of green and tan or brownish color like yours, as well it has as spray lubricant, a lens clarifying compound and base coat & lens sealing wipes. How do we know if the one I have is Ceramic or not? Hey bud. I personally have restored hundreds of headlights. The kit you used is ok for mildly oxidized headlight. I recommend the 3M kit with a 3 step dry/wet sand method and finishing compound. I always use a good ceramic coating after the compound and so far I've never had a headlight that I couldn't render back to ORIGINAL clarity and shine. Love your videos. You're the man Pan!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 3 lety

      Yes Steven, this kit is meant for light to moderate oxidation levels. It's simply meant for a DIY application, for someone who doesn't have the tools, time or experience, to dramatically improve the appearance of their headlights in a matter of minutes. But of course, for heavily oxidized headlights, I always recommend a full water sanding, machine compound and polish, IPA, and then a ceramic coat application.

    I’m finding a lot of video gems of yours I’ve missed. Great content. 👍Ive used the cerakote recently with good results. Would you say there are perhaps 3 levels of lens degradation? 1) scratched and fully frosted needing fairly aggressive sandpaper stepped down to 2000-3000. 2) heavy oxidation but less scratching so simply a cut compound then a Polish plus sealer at the end. 1) fairly clean but swirled lenses using an all in one like your video on Rupes Uno Advanced. I used a Cerakote ceramic wipe but I’m wondering In future about using a Two part 2k actual clear coat spray assuming that would be even more durable?

    It looked like a lot of the scratches were left over on the headlights at the end. RainX sells a product very similar to this but it comes with 4 different sanding surfaces, the last two are a much finer grit. I think it does a much better job of smoothing the clear down so you don't get those visible scratches. But they both have similar results in any case. Great video Pan!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 4 lety +3

      Thanks! Again, these DIY kits aren't meant (in my opinion) to achieve perfection. There's so much a $10 kit and spending less than 20 minutes can do. For perfection, you need more tools, products and need to spend more money obviously. This is a good solution for those who don't have too much experience, and who simply are looking for a quick and inexpensive way to enhance the look of their headlights without the use of tools.

    I used the original Turtle Wax product on my Mk5 Rabbit years ago and loved it. I did go beyond what the direction said and ended up machine wet sanding w/600 grit sandpaper, then the clear coat. Headlights came out “perfect”. As new. I think if you’re going to go to the trouble to do it at all, spend a little more time and wet sand with really fine sandpaper.

    Thanks for the video and the link to the kit. I'm glad to see that restoring the headlights is so easy, but I have a question and a suggestion. Question: why do you use a polish and then sand. The sanding completely negates all the polishing, since the polish is a much finer abrasive than the sandpaper. Why not just skip the first polish step and do the polishing after the sanding? Suggestion:when sanding, I have always added a drop or 2 of dish soap to a spray bottle of water. The soap helps lubricate the sandpaper just a little bit more than plain water withoutstopping the sandpaper from working and helps keep it from loading up from the particulates that you are sanding off.

    Thanks for the review. These products are OK. The important thing is not to expect results lasting for years. Usually these are for 6 months+. Maybe because of the ceramic, this could go up to 12 months in this case. And I suppose, kept in the garage, could ladt even more. So expectation management is the key :)

This was done as a boredom experiment during lockdown and remain my only headlight restoration so I highly doubt that some amatuer like me did the perfect job which makes me believe you 6-12 months theory is nonsense.

    Not bad for minimum effort. For light work that's probably a good option for most people. The garage I work in we use kits that require tools. Those aren't perfect either XD. I've found (for me) 800, 1200, 3000 grit sanding paper followed by rubbing compound then polish compound gives a really great result. Then end with a coating you like for protection. Tools are required and it does take about 2 hours to do. For less or no experience, no shop tools, and in less than 30 minutes, that's a good kit for people to follow and use.
