As funny as that line is, you can argue Zylus is technically correct.
If you're semantic enough it's two hits from the boomerang, but you only throw it/shoot it once. So, "one shot".

Not even technically; he's just right. It's the same for shotguns and pellets.

It's not even like it's a burst fire weapon, where you could argue that pressing the fire button once and firing out a burst is technically multiple shots, it's just straight up unambiguously one shot.
